    Great interview overall. Few points: Delta waves are not always related to artifacts. Moreover, you can use algorithms to remove eye artifacts out. The question is if Muse uses those or not, and if so how do they interpret muscle and eye artifacts (qualitative analysis).
    The sensors quality of Muse are not necessarily in question as they pick up ERPs accurately (at least some of them) but the limitations, as indicated, are rather related to algorithms restrictions for detecting artifacts but equally Muse overall sampling rate limitations for higher gamma waves.

    Thanks for the great interview. Two questions come to mind. Considering the false positives from eye movements etc and non-neural electrical signals, 1) would it make more sense to turn off delta wave readings in raw readouts provided by e.g. Mind Monitor?; and 2) would we get more reasonable readings from disabling the ear sensors and only taking readings from the front sensors? Thanks again.

    • @CodyRallMD
      @CodyRallMD  4 года назад +1

      It seems like you want the Delta because it would allow you to identify bad data during a time point that is most likely disrupting other frequencies at that time point as well. I think the ear sensors still contribute data to the overall picture.

    Hey cody, in a recent neuroscience brainwave conversation you had, I recall that amplitude can be a significant marker of skillfulness in meditation or an effect of long-term practice. I had a unique monitor graph and a powerful meditation where all of my brainwaves were 20+ there average. So alpha is usually near 80 but it was at 110-120, and delta/theta were up over a hundred. Beta/gamma were also up 20 over there average (50 and 70). we look a lot at patterns but can you speak to the significance/meaning of amplitude?

    • @CodyRallMD
      @CodyRallMD  2 года назад

      That's very interesting. I would have to look at multiple readings and more metrics to get a good feel for what is going on.

    My research and experimentation has shown that the dance of the Gamma Theta Delta is the key to permanent alignment. Using a meditation that trains only 1 brainwave or two will only lead to temporary alignment. The reason is because Gamma is a high energy state, Delta is a psychic state that also requires energy so Delta dancing in coherence with them will allow you to regenerate enough energy and be stable. If you don't have all 3 in coherance you'll have great focus but get tired fast (Beta/Gamma), you'll be seeing visions but consciousness will be poor and be sleepy all the time (Theta) or you'll be able to get some rest and feel good in a dreamless state but be uninspired (delta). Having all 3 aligned at once using the right meditation technique that utilizes them all is the key to very high processing and connection 24/7. That is basically what being on DMT is like but even better.

    • @Reaperaxe9
      @Reaperaxe9 3 года назад +1

      Spot on! I used to consider just Gamma and Theta coherence but you make great points about Delta waves! Maybe through meditation and "letting go" we are releasing small amounts of DMT as we are "killing off" the extra processing that's happening (DMT after all is a signal that death is coming isn't it?)

      @@Reaperaxe9 Since these discoveries I have moved on towards less meditation and more about Chi and how the Lower Dan Tien is the secret to many amazing things including vital energy. Energy is the key word here where an abundance of it allows us to access higher consciousness where as a depletion of it reduces our consciousness the less we have. Meditation is a tool to gain some of this energy but it's only temporary. To gain truly incredible amounts a process of Chi work is needed on the belly chakras and below and as time progresses one will be able to perform incredible direction over the mind and body and of others too. This is lasting unlike meditation which is temporary. Check out Master Chang Chi Gong and Grandmaster wolf Chi for more information. Ultimately the chi always flows up from below when it's filled enough (kundalini) whereas meditation brings it from above but if chi problems are in the lower chakras then meditation is not very useful at all.

    • @Reaperaxe9
      @Reaperaxe9 3 года назад

      @@CollapseDev I also have been looking into Chi/Kundalini/Energy work. Is this a mere training of our autonomic nervous system and endocrine glands, such that we can redirect blood flow and cause increases in neurotransmitters? Or is there really something mystical to it all, where the energy can "leave our body" and so forth? Curious what you have experienced!

    • @CollapseDev
      @CollapseDev 3 года назад

      @@Reaperaxe9 It's that and much more however the truth is we don't need to direct it really if there is enough energy in the belly it will be sent up to the rest of the body naturally. This energy will nourish the brain into higher levels of activity that is more lasting than meditation. In the future we are headed chi will become mainstream everyone will be doing it.

    @24:00 they talk about how good the Muse is, per the Money. That's great!
    But can, or how does a person make it effective? I can see my generalized activity but can I join that with a camera time synch record to see if my eyes moved at that moment or was there a sound distraction of a lawnmower in the background? If it's all through the phone they should have that in the app by now.
    I'm not mad at you guys, I'm a programmer so I pretty much know these app makers at MUSE are not putting out features to the best of their ability- It shouldn't be hard to record and sync a Bluetooth data string and an audio/visual string from another part of the phone in real-time. If you have to sync it as a post-process that would STILL be useful to monitor the sound or visual events and see if they are reflected in your meditation.
    Sorry, I didn't want to make a rant.

    Also, are there any experts like yourself that are consulting for a reasonable cost to look at one's brainwaves to help determine patterns, meaning, assessment, etc.? I'm seeing things on my graphs that I haven't yet seen answers too and wondering if they are skillful or unskillful. For example, compared to your graph at 13:20, my theta and delta often have up and down patterns of oscillation between 45-65 on the y-axis. Other graphs I see like yours have more smooth sailing between a 5-10 y-axis difference. I'm curious what this means.

    Gentlemen,
    thank you so much for this exciting hour. Great work from both of you.
    Two questions:
    1. Specific Detail: My Brand new 3rd gen Muse flexible headband has only those despicable silicon electrodes. Do you think it is a good idea to wrap the flexible band with the electrodes in aluminum foil on its outside to cut out external electrical sources for better signal quality (only on the outside, of course NOT betweeen skin and electrodes)?
    2. Broader Background: EEG is probably the technology that is matured the most, because it is under research for so long. It would be interesting to have a look into alternative technologies that give finer localization,, e.g. better depth resolution in terms of distance from the skin . . . Just curious.
    But, first and foremost: Absolutely fabulous work. Thank you again!

    14.15: "Muse is an electrical sensor, and it does NOT know what electricity comes from which part of the brain". So, electrical signal coming from any facial or eye movement WILL be recorded by Muse (along with the Real signals that emanate from true meditative activity). So, how is Muse an accurate device for monitoring meditation etc?
