Oly1y She's in her delusional moral bubble. In the end, it wasn't house that couldn't "corrupt" her, it was her that couldn't stand feeling guilty. Chase knew very well he was defiling the "sanctity" of life, but he did it anyway to prevent a massacre. He had enough gut to make a decision that he will have to live with for the rest of his life, she didn't. And i'm not bashing her she was a great character. Just like house not being able to handle pain, she couldn't handle guilt. Shame this series ended it has such deep characters..

This video proved what House said in their date. She was seeing House as her project to help and fix and she got pissed at the end because she wasn't able to do it.
There were moments i liked Cameron very much but scenes like this really frustrated me and felt she just doesn't grow up. She tells House i loved you, no she didn't love him she loved the idea of a fixed House, she hatted the idea that there was nothing that would change House.
The only woman who loved House exactly like he was were Stacy and Lydia. They were the only two who knew him the way he was and still loved him.
Don't get me wrong i love Huddy but she made the same mistake as Cameron in a different way she tried to change him

I don't know there is something about their scenes which I find very interesting especially because I knew at some point Cameron was going to be House's love interest and the producers changed their minds.
So it's interesting to see how everything changed since season 3 and how they used this scene to back up what House told Cameron in their first date.
Now I think the chemistry between Hugh and Jennifer was very good but thinking on how the characters fitted I don't think they were right for each other.
Ive always said the best chemistry was with Cuddy but her character wasn't right for House either.

Cameron is the person who instead of looking for the prince charming, looks for the frog, that you kiss and become the prince. Except House didn't want to, so she went to Chase and was disappointed not to make him the perfect person. She looks for the most screwed-up person she meets and tries to be her light and hope, so that her ego grows, and she becomes the perfect and holy person full of love and morality. But this is toxic, because the other person thinks that he doesn't deserve you and ends up sacrificing himself too much, to try to reach his level, until in the end he ends up losing control of who he really is.

I heard beyond s2 they intended to push the romance further but the actor and actress behind the character were 20 years apart and didnt feel comfortable with it cuz they were friends on top of the age gap.
While you're right that the way it turned out was toxic I think their dynamic and chemistry were perfect. She needed a rock and he needed someone who would love him beyond reason or logic.
That first season where she left cuz when she said she liked him and all he could do was avoid eye contact and freeze up and didnt even shake her hand when she said she quit and was about to leave to get her emotions in check. That was a really sad moment cuz in that moment she just needed to take what she wanted and he would eventually accept it. Even with cuddy he never made the first move, she did. Hes a very good leader in the work place because hes hyper competent but because hes so emotionally fragile he can at best avoid confronting uncomfortable emotions. I think it's his test after stacy because he wanted to be sure before starting a relationship 1 that she was serious enough to push for it herself and 2 that he was allowed to make a mistake or be selfish and have it not ruin it sooner or later so he wouldnt have to live in fear of abandonment after opening up.
Think how he tested the Russian girl by hiding her letters for her green card. The test was wanting to see before even trying for a relationship if she understood that he was capable of hurting her and of lying and if she had the grace to forgive him for it. He didn't test cuddy for grace so it blew up in his face when she left though the writing was trash since it was a rush job to get the actress out of the show.
Maybe I'm projecting but I have a ton of similarities with house including how the mom and dad dynamic was and its affect on me and my hatred of authority from exactly the kind of father he had. That's part of why I loved the show is not only did I see a lot of myself in house but they even portrayed his origin story accurately as in this family dynamic is the cause and house is the effect.
But based on all the psychological and origin similarities as well as similar experiences, I can say without a doubt that the relationship with cameron would have worked out well but she needed to be the one acting on faith because house will not. Be the yin to his yang. He knew that she could do better he was a messed up crippled junkie 20 years older than her. But they were good for each other imo cuz you can see how much she grew with him in her life teaching her the harsh realities. Her softness is something you reserve for loved ones not for the world at large. The world eats people like her and spits them out.
It was sad when she told him she realized he helped people not because he cared about them but because it was right. They wrote I guess that she realized it was impossible to live up to his standard of integrity and it wasnt empathy driving him but cold logic, it just happened to include a set of ethics that holds life as sacred. In that scene she just needed to kiss him and say you're worth it to me and not pressure him for an answer. He would warm up on his own.
What she needed to do was rise to the challenge, realize its impossible to really meet such a standard but try anyway kind of like Wilson did. He gave him shit but never truly judged him or pressured him like he never left that's why house gave up everything to spend his last months with him. She was basically a less mature Wilson but if she chose him and committed to it instead of seeking his approval over her feelings it would have worked out just fine. Thats the biggest thing with house is he doesnt define his relationships with people, he let's them do that for themselves. Her fixer tendencies were too selfish at their core so she chose to walk cuz she wanted to be validated for it rather than just love him without expecting an answer and let things play out on faith.
I've had women try to be cameron but they drove me away because they needed to be validated rather than just loving me and letting me learn to and accept being loved so I can feel safe to reciprocate it. It ended up looking like some crazy behavior since life isn't a movie but if u want someone with a shell you gotta give them room to leave the shell and not punish them for having the shell, or immediately stick a knife in when they leave the shell to take a chance.

Ah, I always loved Cameron. Show started when I was a a teen, and it was really incredible to see a woman like her on screen. She taught me a lot. I stopped watching the show when she left in season 3 because she was IT for me in the show, and I will always be sad that they didn't show more of her. At the same time that was a blessing, then I get to keep the image that I have of her in my mind. I should watch up until this episode at least, I think. This character, an emotional and logical woman with a moral compass and a sense of empathy while at the same time being incredibly flawed and always working to get better and do better? And, in the end she was the one who remained true to herself.
This was why I thought they worked so well together, Cameron and House. She believed he could do better, but loved him for who he was. Pushed him to do better, but still loved him when he didn't. And he pushed her, challenged her, but neither changed who they were for each other. They were complete without, but better with each other, IMO. I still think she loved him, even as she left in this scene. She'll always love him.

Cameron is saying that the profession House is in means more than cold utilitarian outcomes. They all take an oath to do no harm to individuals who entrust them with their lives. Sabotaging the life of a patient, even a ruthless genocidal dictator, is a violation of the law, their ethical code, and trust.
It is one thing to choose not to treat a person due to their unrepentant malevolence. It is another to legally promise to do right by them and then assassinate them at their most vulnerable with no ability to defend themselves. If someone who is legally obligated to help you wanted to mortally harm you, would you want the opportunity to fight for your life or no?
This is why doctors promise to first do no harm. Chase proclaimed himself judge, jury, and executioner and felt no regret for violating his oath as he would have done it again. Cameron is saying yet another wrong on top of thousands of other wrongs does not make something right, especially when you go through years of specialized training that few will ever have access to for the explicit purpose of treating the sick and vulnerable.
Many logically minded people might choose to do what Chase did. All Cameron is saying is that neither House nor Chase should then remain doctors after violating the most fundamental principle of their job. People have a right to know the motivations of those who care for them and the risks involved in choosing their provider without having to worry about being assassinanted.

Either way, morality is often problematic for doctors. They take an oath to do no harm and to not discriminate. Killing the dictator broke both those oaths. After going meticulously through the show the only thing I see is how an ultimate sense of morality was the only thing that never let her be moved by absolutely anyone in the team, or the hostpital. She moved for noone. She was way too screwed up in her life from earlier and too warped into her lookout on life to be able to bond to others really meaningfully, or to not run away. People should change, and people do change on impression by those who have leave meaningful impressions; that is what happened with all the others who were supposedly became monsters under House. Cameron is a great character but damn if she aint the biggest hypocrite in the entire show. Her character was always based on morals. When to do right and be the good person, always treating the patient with the most care and not like puzzles, she probably put her self on a higher standard than everyone else because she was kinder to the patient and looked after them. She was morally better than the other doctors, but thats only when she thought the patients were angels. When she found dirt on patients, her quality of care took a nose dive. She hurried along through treatments and sometimes harmed the patients if they didnt meet her moral requirements. She did exactly what she accused House of doing, playing God and throwing her judgement. The worst part is, she isnt as good of a person as she says she is. She never truly loved Chase and was hung up on a past relationship, but lied to Chase that was over it. All she was looking for, was 1 reason, 1 imperfection on Chase to drop him and she then blamed House when her feelings on Dibala probably pushed Chase to kill him more than House did.

House's job isn't to enrich the patients life. Only save them. Chase killed Dabala, precisely *because* he could see the sanctity of all the human lives that Dabala was going to extinguish to stay in power in his country. Maybe it wasnt his place to do so, but to paint him as some callous sociopath is flat out unfair and untrue.
As a medical officer of the german army, 1917 you get called into to treat a patient suffering catastrophic chemical burns to the eyes from a mustard gas attack on the enemy that backfired. His medical chart names him one A. Hitler. That night as you are getting some shut eye, you get a vision of the future and in that future, you see this man unexpectedly rise to political power and trigger a war that would kill millions, whilst making great effort to exterminate over 6 million people, mostly j*wish. You are assured that this vision will 100% come to pass. The next day, it is time to administer Lance Corporal Hitler's antibiotics. However, you could just as easily switch the penecillin for carbolic cleaner and save millions of lives. What do you do? This was the choice that Chase was forced to make. There isnt really a scenario in which he could live with himself, but he made the decision that saved the most amount of lives. He upheld his hippocratic oath in that sense. So I dont demonise him for that decision.

      @puzzlingcentaur 6 лет назад +5

6 years after......not good enough reason to stop watching House, but I mostly agree with you. I must point out that Cameron was severely corrupted by House, unfortunately . If you compare Cameron from the very first episodes to Cameron in the end of third season (and afterwards), you can see that she lost all of her naivety and innocence. In later season, she was no longer that same sweet Cameron we all knew and she rarely smiled (she smiled often in first season). Watch the whole show all over, take notes and you will see a radical change in personality. HOWEVER, despite those significant changes in Cameron personality, she did not succumb to House's influence and her "core" personality remained unchanged, the things that truly matter remained the same: her morals, her ideals.
I believe that a few years without House and a proper spouse returned her sweet personality and her smile again.
Do not forget that House (a great character we all love) is a manipulative sociopath.....I knew a manipulative sociopath once in my life....you wouldn't believe how easily they corrupt you before you realise it. And for the record, between House and the person I knew, I would still choose House.

A lot of people don’t understand why she’s so upset over them purposely killing the dictator but you all should realize. She’s a doctor to the core. Doctors literally have to swear an oath to “Do no harm” and to “not discriminate” their patients. They trampled on that oath that they all would have had to take. Yes you could argue that it was the morally correct choice. But Doctors aren’t supposed to have their morals overrule how they treat patients. Because that’s when they start playing God. After all this time she still can't do basic math. Chase killed a man to save thousands of lives (so he thought). Probably an even worse dictator would replace him soon enough. But "his motives mattered". She just wasn't capable of entering that wormhole, which requires some serious balls. I wouldn't do it either to be honest.
I think Cameron was a bit to the Christian freak end, she thought that she could be moral even by doing nothing, and sometimes that's false. Life is a constant risk whether you move or not. And she wanted so much to be morally right that she couldn't put herself in a position of potentially being morally wrong. But by doing nothing she was already there, just not by choice, which doesn't excuse you if your aim is a moral high ground.
On the other end, Chase was naive and went too far. What he thought was the right move perhaps changed little in that country he was trying to overthrow single-handedly.
House was at some fault for Chase's move. But House helped him a lot too over time, and he is not his father. Everyone has to protect themselves. But that's Cameron whole shtick, to act like she can and is protecting everyone. Takes someone a bit full of herself to think you can pull that off.

Sem Nome its weird but after Chase getting over what he did and finally getting his life back in control after that he became a much more confident doctor and much more mature.
Corrupted or not Chase was born for that department and belongs to House in some way, The had a sort of telepathy to solve the cases which was proven right on the first episode of the show.
Chase suggested to get an X-ray of Adler's brain to give her the prove she wanted of type worm then House said do the xRay but not of her head or brain but of her leg.
That's how great their minds worked together during the Heavy Episode Chase was able to work under pressure and suggest bring fat as a symptom and House quite agrees and gets the diagnosis out of that suggestion with a small correction of what Chase said.
So I'm glad Chase picked House over Cameron
