  • Newnes to Glow Worm Tunnel Walk in the Wolgan Valley. This is a longer walk to the Glow Worm tunnel and a great hike with beautiful views of the Wolgan Valley. The hike starts near Newnes and takes a cliff side track and then on through the rainforest. The hike is worth doing for itself, not just for the Glow Worm tunnel, although that's quite fun... This is the best way to visit the glow worm tunnel if you don't have a 4WD.

    My father grew up at Lithgow in the 1920's, and he, his brother and their mates spent quite a bit of time walking along the Plateau and nearby areas. I have a recollection of his saying that once they walked along the line to Newnes and were met there to be driven back. That would have been late '20's to mid 30's. In the 50's and 60's, he took us to the valley and also to some of the line on the plateau.

      @@delphinelesterlost3285 It is indeed. A lot of people think of the plateau as little more than scrubby heath, but there's a lot more to it than that.

      It's a fantastic walk and there was nobody around for most of the walk. The glow worm tunnel was quite busy but it's not the most interesting part of the walk, in my opinion.

    Great video , you can take a normal car on the Glow worm tunnel road , that leads to the Tunnel from Clarence . we were on there on Sunday . Been going to that place for a long time .But have never done the walk from Newnes .. But been camping at Newnes for a long time .. Did you check out the ruins and do that walk ..its beautiful . Now i get to see the walk by watching you do it ..looks awesome .

      The visitor's office in Lithgow said the shorter road to the tunnel required a high clearance or a 4WD. That's good to know though. I'm really pleased I did the walk from Newnes, the hike through the rainforest is even better than the Glow Worm Tunnel in my view... I have to go back to visit the ruins it looks really interesting. The guy who owns the pub in Newnes said that up to 1600 people used to live there when shale oil production was in full swing... that will be another video!

      @@delphinelesterlost3285 the main dirt road to the glow worm tunnel is the Glow worm tunnel road . Maybe they know of the another road. . You travel onto Chifley road of coarse and take the road next to the zig zag railway called old bells line of Rd.. we have taken a fiesta. van and suv on that road .. it wasn't any worse than the road going into Newnes . We went to goochs crater on Sunday on that road and it was fine ..but the road goochs is on it a bit tricky . You would love that place .

      @@delphinelesterlost3285 you will love it , we drove in so far and then parked up ..we were about 1km from trailhead . We don't have high clearance like the big 4x4s that parked at the trailhead . we did see a few cars parked up a few kms back from where we parked up on the right . We are going back as we didn't explore to much there as we ran out of time .

    As a local you can drive your car to the glow worm tunnels from Lithgow or at Clarence not sure why they told you at the info centre that it was 4wd.. it does get very bumpy when it rains because of the traffic on the road as it is very popular with 4wds as there is a lot of off road tracks up the drift etc.

    • @delphinelesterlost3285
      @delphinelesterlost3285  Год назад

      I noticed the information centres always take a very cautious approach, they won't risk someone getting in trouble based on their advice. The 4WD road is a shortcut so I'm glad I took the long way round, it was a beautiful day trip
