I've run both tires and here's what I think: The Nitto's were pretty worn out at 45K miles while my BFG's have 49K and judging by the current rate of wear should easily make 60K. Pretty similar on road performance with the BFG being slightly quieter (but neither are bad if rotated regularly). Neither are a great mud tire but both do ok in light mud. The BFG is a bit stickier on the rocks. The Nitto is a little better in sand. The big standout to me was snow performance: The Nitto was ok new but got really bad below 50% tread. The BFG's have been great and currently have about 25% tread left and are still performing surprisingly well. Those full depth sipes might be why. The only tire I've run that I liked better in snow was the Goodyear Duratrac. The Nitto and BFG have both been very durable with no sidewall damage to either. Both tires balanced well and stayed balanced throughout their life. Both good tires but I'll stick with the BFG's

Great comment! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!
I agree with your take on the Nittos. I’ve had mine for almost 5 years but with low miles on them. They’re showing cracking and even smalls chunks came off when going over small curves. Maybe the Florida weather has something to do with it but still somewhat surprised given the hype over the Nittos. I think I’ll go with BFG next.
Nice write up - I’ve run bfg’s for years but was tempted to go nitto this time. BUT - I have zero interest in giving up my snow performance. It’s half the reason I run at’s as I get in a lot of time up north in winter.
Thanks for sharing! I was in between the tires. I am more into the road noise. So confirming that the BFG is the quietest?
Running my first set of KO2s on my tundra an I’m shockingly impressed with the performance on ice and snow! So far I absolutely love them.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing
I have owned many ko2s, and yes incredible in snow but not good on ice, im actually considering designated winter tires because where I drive on my truck is usually icy, I’d not consider this comparison between the nitto or the ko2, two very different tires.
In Northern Ontario where we have more snow than ice, KO2 are great. No tire works well at freezing point on ice. 4 sets of KO2 on tacoma, Tundra and F150 in bush trails, snow and Ice. Rather drive my truck on ice than my wife's Sante Fe with yokahame ice guard tires
Was debating to switching to the Nitto tires from the Ko2. This video helped me to make my decision. It was not easy though. They are both amazing. Sticking with the Ko2 on my 22' ORP 4Runner. Thanks for the great video.
Glad I could help! Please support the channel by sharing.
I have had both as well as the Toyo and Yokahama X-AT. The Ridge Grappler and X-AT are about equal. Good for offroad, pretty good on pavement but both get loud when you hit about 30k miles on my 2020F250. The BFG's also have their flaws but I prefer them better cause I do more towing and on road vs offroad. The manners of the tire is slightly better. The problem is when I order a 37" tire from BFG I want it to be the same size as the other manufactures at around 36.5" vs 35.75. My favorite tire for all around is one I never would have gotten but listened to the reviews. Falkin Wildpeak AT3 Great video. Subscribed
Thanks. You should also check out Falken Wildpeak's comparison with BFG KO2 y2u.be/UvQiylyj9os
i'm about to buy my second set of grapplers i'm so pleased with them.
Good to Know
I have sold tires for almost twenty five years. My top brand were always toyo open country and bfg ko. Last year I put on my first set of nito ridge graplers I love these tires many sizes to choice from smooth and look great
Thanks for sharing
You just confirmed my thoughts. Thanks!
What do you prefer between the ridge grapplers and the mud terrains?
@@GYMGUYFE I have the Ridge Grapplers now and mud terrains in the past. The Grapplers are as quiet as street tires. The mud terrains always made way too much noise going down the road.
Thank you for all testing. KO2 if mostly on road & KM3 if mostly off road. The Nitto is barely in-between.
Glad you liked it and yes, you got that right.
KO2 out performs the nitto off road..
With years of experience wheeling in Death Valley during the summer months, KO2's are the preferred choice over any other brand.
@thehoofersclub: Your years of experience in Death Valley give your preference for KO2's a lot of weight. Thanks for sharing!
We have two jeeps, hers is a wrangler rubicon, and mine is a gladiator rubicon. Both of the jeeps have the BFG KO2s which work well in our Alaskan winters.
Thanks for sharing.
After 20 Alaskan winters (Fairbanks, North Pole , and Manley Hot Springs) I liked the K02’ the best. No matter what tire at 45 below you still have flat spots when starting out. The Alaskan wake up ride.
Kos have saved my life more than once. Amazing stopping power and swerving capabilities. I have to stay loyal
Loyalty to a tire that has proven its reliability in critical situations is completely understandable. The BF Goodrich KO2's performance in emergency maneuvers evidently stands out for you, and that kind of real-world testament is invaluable for those considering their options in all-terrain tires.
So many good tires to choose from.
Well, that why we are here to help you out.
I have the Ridge Grappler’s on my Gladiator,35x12.5x20’s. They work perfectly in the woods and on pavement. Quiet and a smooth ride ! That said, Toyo builds the best tire PERIOD ! Just couldn’t afford the extra coin or I’d still be running Toyo !!!!
Thank You for sharing. We just published a video comparing Ridge with Toyo AT3.
@@comparethetire
Toyo MT’s king of wherever you want to go ! Just not quiet enough for daily driver !
Also- Nitto is a sister company to Toyo. Just found that out. No wonder I love my nitto’s so much
Well I have parted with the nitto and am running the KO2’s. I prefer the KO2’s hands down. The ride is much better, traction feels better. Much happier
One of our company fleet F150's had these tires and the same identical truck I drove with KO2's. We went out to a jobsite with a steep hill at the entrance, I made it up but the truck with the garbage "grapplers" couldn't make it. The KO2's are hands down the best. I've had probably 2 dozen sets of these tires on multiples of vehicles and had no problems with any of them not to mention I get 70-80k miles out of of them.
Ko2s are very durable.
I've heard of people having lots of punctures and sidewall damage from the grapplers. I've beat the heck out of the k0s and they are tough. Mine are wearing and suck in the snow now.
I have BFG KO2s on my 2007 Nissan Xterra and Nitto Ridge Grappler on my 2019 Toyota Tundra... I have been a BFG KO2 fan for a while now until I put the Nitto Ridge Grappler on my Tundra. Ridge Grappler in my opinion are better overall tires. It does not have 3PMSF rating but honestly, it did better than I expected on snow and 3 inch of solid icy roads. I could not really tell the difference between the KO2 and Ridge Grapplers when it comes to winter driving. I'm my own personal experience the Ridge Grappler did just as good as the KO2s on winter driving. I will be putting new Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my Nissan Xterra and will be selling my almost new KO2s.
👍 Thanks for sharing
Did you already sell your K02s?
I have a set of BFG KO2 I love them
Thanks for sharing
I also have experienced and have used both tires in a Jeep.. Ko2 in a 37” and Nidge Graps in “38”. Also used Disco SST pro 37” MT. Both ko2 and ridge graps are way better and quieter than the disco SST pro… I like the light weight of the Ko2, there snow rated and how agile it is on my steering.. but cons of Ko2’s are its just to small for its size.. its 37’s are very close to size of a 35” or 315’s MT’s.. and there side walls are not as strong as nittos.. Nittos are just built tougher especially when you start trailing on sharp rock gardens, and there size are closer as described. The disco sst are great but just too loud on road. So started with stock, then ko2, then sst pro, finally nitto ridge grapplers…
@rords3695
Great breakdown of your experience with each tire! It's always beneficial to hear from someone who's tried multiple options.
I’ve had older versions of the BFGs and they were great for a jack of all conditions. The Nittos I haven’t owned, but have driven on them, they ride and sound like a full mud terrain tire. Heck the Firestone mud terrains I’ve been driving on are quieter on highway than the Nittos.
Yes, they are louder in comparison. And they tend to get loud with wear.
Both are great!! Ridge Grapplers are heavy though!
Yes they are!
Getting ready to buy a new set for my truck. Your video helped me decide to stick with the KO2 as that's what came with the truck when I bought it; they look and function great even though worn out. I'm in Michigan so snow is a major concern.
Glad it helped you
In the Northeast I prefer something with better wet driving and snow driving manners. Between these 2, KO2.
But I drive GY Wrangler Duratracs because they are the best in snow.
You should check out Falken Wildpeak then...also Mickey Thompson Baja ATs are also really good in snow.
Ran KO2s for 2 years. Switched to Nitto Ridge grapplers and I love them so much more. They are quieter. And the KO2s didn’t even get up to 30k miles without wearing down so much. I rotated them every 5k. Ridge grapplers got me to 30k and can give me another 30 easily. They also have much better grip. Will be staying with Nittos
Hmm, what sizes were you running?
I’ve owned both and love the KO2 more especially in rain and snow
Thanks for sharing. What aspect of this tire do you like in rain? Hydroplaning? Braking? Acceleration? or juts Handling?
Just curious.
I find the k02s were terrible in the rain and slush
Like all AT tires with the snowflakes they r just ok in snow and ice
Then again if you’ve never had dedicated winter tires you wouldn’t know
So the Nitto's aren't good in snow? Just wondering because I go to Colorado a lot in the wintertime. I know the Nittos don't have the snow mount peak symbol.
I've had both Nitto Ridge Grapplers and K02s. I had K02s on my previous Silverado but when I got my new Tahoe Z71 in 2021 the off road place doing my lift (6" rc) recommended Nitto 35s. I had them on all summer then into winter. As soon as snow hit the ground here in Michigan's u.p. I immediately noticed I was sliding constantly. I had NO faith in those tires for up here. I immediately went back and got K02s like I had on my Silverado and they have been far, far, far better for snow and ice.
I had KO2's on my 4Runner and tried the Ridge Grappler when they wore out. The Grapplers wore out faster and I went back to the KO2's. No longer interested in other tires.
My only complaint was that they were terrible in the rain and on slushy roads.
I drove in the snow and slushy roads had no issues.
I’ve got a 99 limited 4Runner and get less than 30,000 miles out of a set of Bridgestone dealer AT revo.
How many miles do your ko2’s last?
@@keep10fingersoff Over 45k. This set is going to give me 50 easily.
Ridge Grappler has a softer rubber in comparison, that's why it wears a little faster.
Almost everyone I know who actually goes off roading traded their ridge grapplers for something else. Toyos, Falken, KO2 or Pirelli Scorpions. Those are the best.
Yes, that's because Ridge Grapplers don't do so good on road, especially on wet compared to less aggressive tires you mentioned.
Ran KO2s for years, often dry rotted before tread wore down. But man they pick up every small rock and practically sandblast your truck. . Great tire, but I think they’re a little overpriced. Especially the E rated ones.
Wait till you see KO, the tire's predecessor...
That's the reason why KO2 introduced 2 different stone ejectors.
Good comparison but totally disagree on wet roads. The Nittos having a larger open path towards the edges allows water to escape faster, where the Bfgs do not. Have owned 4 sets of the Ko2s over the years and they have a tendency to hydroplane easily. The Nittos are less likely to hydroplane.
The Bfgs are very good in the snow, haven't used the Nittos to compare. I prefer the Goodyear Duratracs for winter driving. They are great in the snow, even better than the Bfgs from my experience.
Interesting point about the wet road performance. Tire design really does make a significant difference in handling conditions like hydroplaning. Your insight on the Nittos versus the KO2s is quite valuable, especially for those prioritizing wet road safety. Thanks for your detailed comparison!
I’ve had both on jeep wranglers. It’s hard to tell the difference off road or on road .
The Ridge grapplers do get a little more louder once they get around 15k .
@striperking6083: Appreciate your insights on the Ridge Grapplers and KO2s. It's useful to know about the noise increase after some wear.
What are your thoughts on Kelly tsr tires?
It's a good tire having a lot of common features with Goodyear DuraTrac.
It's better off road, but on road it's loud and not that comfortable.
I’m guessing the Nitto is heavier because it is a bigger tire? I looked at both 35” and the BFG runs smaller compared to the Nitto. Would make sense, more tire, more weight
Yes Nitto is a much heavier tire in all sizes.
I prefer toyo...yes the BFGs may last longer, but you still get 40 to 50k miles from the ridge grapplers. The k02 tread design has been around for like 40 years and I have found them to be wanting compared to other AT/RT types of tires offroad. They are great on wet roads or light mud, but if you need a little more capability, get something more aggressive.
Thanks for sharing
Bfgs do not last longer then toyos I've seen toyos easily get close to 80k. I've put 20k on my truck since I bought it and it had toyo at2 that were well used and they still have 10 to 20k until I reach the wear bars
Had K02s got rid of them cause they wouldn’t hold a balance. Been rolling Grapplers for around 30K miles, no problems at all but they’re getting loud. I think it’s cause the dealership hasn’t been rotating them properly. Will rotate myself to minImize the cupping I’m noticing.
Thanks for sharing. Yes, that would help.
Have you tested the general grabbers?
Yes we posted on General Grabber ATX
I've had both and like both of them.
Thanks for sharing. Why do you feel that way?
@@comparethetire Both tires have not let me down when traction was needed if it was off road or in the snow. They got good and bad things about them but when you need to rely on your tires to get you threw stuff I like both and would buy ether one again.
I was not a fan of the KO2s in snow or when hydroplaning was a risk. I went to the Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT and love them.
Yes, they are really good in snow, I actually compared a video: Mikey Baja Boss AT vs KO2 (find it on channel homepage).
BFG's are bad in the snow and horrible in the rain. I can't count how many times I hydroplaned with my BFG's.
I have had about 6 sets of BFG. Now running Ridge Graps. I don't have enough miles on them to compare rain/snow but so far I like then better. I don't think I will ever buy the BFG's again.
You really should have compared the KO2's to the Nitto Exo Grapplers. They are much more comparable all terrains. The Ridge Grapplers don't have the 3 peak snowflake and are more of a AT/MT hybrid while the KO2's and the Exo Grapplers are both a pure AT with 3 peak snowflake. I've had all 3 tires and the Grapplers are great tires for sure as are KO2's. Grapplers lasted longer than any tire I've ever owned, was good all around for snow, wet, dry, gravel and towing. They drastically lost effectiveness in snow at around half life which I didn't like. Ridge Grapplers were not good in snow and the life on them is ass. I'm now using AT3W's and I like them the best.
@seditionist2186, thanks for bringing up the comparison between the KO2's and the Nitto Exo Grapplers, it's certainly a valid point. The Exo Grapplers do offer a similar profile to the KO2's. Your real-world experience with these tires provides valuable insights, especially regarding their performance in snow and overall lifespan. And it's always interesting to hear when someone has found their "favorite" tire like you have with the AT3W's!
@@comparethetire cheers! I would add that all 3 tires perform similar in mud, which is to say they all suck lol. Not sure there is a good AT for mud though, however, I've heard the Duratracs with their larger gaps on the outside lugs grab and throw mud a little better than the others. Living in the Pacific Northwest Canada, we get some pretty nasty Forest Service Roads with a lot of deep mud pits. Unfortunately, there just isn't a tire that does awesome in all the categories I mentioned above AND mud. Snow/wet/towing performance/tread life trumps for me.
Got some 37's ko2 and was hard to balance and three of them were starting to cup within the first 4,000 miles and one was out of round. I replaced them back with 37's Km3 and the Km's were more smoother. Ive had buddies who had Ko2s and were cupping even when rotated. Stick with my Km's less mileage but im ok with that.
Yea if you are off road most of your time, then it's a good choice. (PS seeing this now, hope you don't mind).
I prefer the Duratrac to either the Nitto or BFG.
Thanks for sharing. Why do you feel that btw?
@@comparethetire Had all three. I lived in Phoenix and off-roaded central AZ and often drive in snow and ice in Northern AZ. I found the KO* and Ridge Grapplers both packed over with mud and snow quickly and did not clean treads same with picking up rocks. I think maybe the siping on the duratrac helped with clearing packover and rocks. The wet, snow and ice driving seemed more surefooted as well.
@@trollingdirty8910 Hmm this makes sense. DuraTrac is really great with mud.
@@trollingdirty8910 completely agree. KO2s are good in dry conditions. I have almost no use for them in mud or even on wet pavement. More than one of my friends has said his RGs are terrible in snow. I aim for 3k rotations with the DTs, and they are still not loud yet on the highway.
I never had Duratrac, heard their great. I’m running nitto ridge grafflers. These tires are fantastic!
The BF goodrich is hard to beat in the 10 ply E-load rating.
Yea its pretty tough
I had excellent wet pavement performance with the KO2.
Compared to Ridge Grappler, yes KO2 is not bad at all in wet.
Review was excellent. Music we can do without.
@paulstebenne8401: Thanks for the feedback! Will consider the music choice in future reviews.
I've never tried the Nitto's but have several different BF Goodrich & for me I've never had any good luck with BF Goodrich.
It's unfortunate to hear that you've had no luck with BF Goodrich tires. Different individuals can have varying experiences with tire brands. It's important to find the tires that work best for your specific needs and preferences. Exploring other brands like Nitto might be worth considering if you're looking for alternatives.
I have only had 1 set of KO 2's . Even my Wife hated them .will never own another set. Aquaplaning in evey puddle of Water making them slippery in the wet 1 of the worst tyres in the wet we have ever used .I put it down to the water can not escape fast under the tyre of KO2. It seems to get trapped in the tread and aquaplains. I run Nitto now . Very good in the wet weather and better offroad also
Look for Falken Wildpeak AT3w or the Cooper AT3, both are great for wet.
I have km3 and a raunch steel bumper I’m mostly on pavement my good friends and the front tire wear is tremendous but the rear still has the blocks, so I’m thinking to run AT in front and MT at back
That's quite the tire wear situation. It might be worth exploring the alignment and balance of your vehicle first. If you do go with a mixed setup, it's recommended to use AT in the rear for better handling. Always consult with a tire professional to understand the implications. Remember, safety is paramount!
Falken wildpeaks AT3s I think I said enough ?
I may try Falkens, I am tired of BFG's, they wear out too fast and terrible in rainy weather.
Did you watch the video on BFG KO2 vs Wildpeak yet? I've you haven't its highly recommended.

For me bfgoodrich ko2 all day. They are made in the USA
BFGoodrich KO2 does have a strong fan base, especially among those who prioritize American-made products. Thanks for weighing in, Miguel! Your input adds to the discussion.
Ridge grapplers are garbage tires. I used them on my Ford Expedition for off roading and on my Cadillac Escalade for daily driving. As an off road tire they are not any good ko2 preformed way better. As a daily driving tire the grappler was loud, would never balance right so always had a slight vibration in the steering wheel plus they wore out stupid fast and they were twice the price of ko2s. I can’t speak for the ko2 as daily driver because the grapplers left a bad taste for using ats as normal driving tires.
You got that right.
Also, man do share if you liked the content
Ko2 all the way ✊🏻
@obs4life228: Ko2 fans represent! ✊🏻 It's always great to hear from enthusiasts who have a go-to favorite.
I stopped watching the "comparo" when I saw an All Terrain compared to a Rugged Terrain. dude they are two different tires.
Yet people still compare them... who cares what category they are in, as long as things are working...right?
Nittos are great but very rough and stiff ride
I've heard that about Nittos too. It really depends on personal preference and the ride you're looking for.
I have NITTO Ridge Grapplers on my ram 1500. 30k miles on them and they are shot. Tires are USELESS in snow and mud. Even In 4x4 I struggle to keep the truck on the rd. KENDA R/T or at2 are a much higher quality tire for $500 less! Nitros are trash never again
Sorry to hear, you had a bad experience with these tires.
*KO2's Suck in Snow, icy snow, everywhere else they are good*
For snow, I'd recommend Grabber ATX or Mickey Thompson AT (if you want something more extreme, staying in A/T category).
I have nitto ridge grapplers on my Toyota Tundra Trd Pro and they are horrible. All hype! I have rotated them every 5,000 miles and they are loud and have not wore evenly and have soft spots.
Thanks for sharing
Odd. Mine are fantastic on and off road…
Mine are great and honestly I can’t believe how much tread I have after 50,000 miles
Awesome Review !
