    I've read 4 out of 5. I've yet to read 'This Book Is Gay', because I am not out yet and I don't want my mom getting suspicious if she sees it lol. But I hope to soon and the updated edition.

      depending on your morals, you could download it online if that would be easier for you. I know that it's there for download and if you're interested it might be a way to avoid confrontation with your mom

    Two Boys Kissing is one of my favorites, too. Tale of Two Summers (Sloan) is another. Like you, I re-read Boy Meets Boy several times a year for the exact same reasons. I've got several shelves full of gay novels, but that one keeps pulling me back. I'm not a fan of This Book is Gay - it's full of stereotypes and misinformation.

    Yes! I will definitely be participating in the readathon whenever it may be! I'm going to be doing an 'all of the lgbt books I own' video (well..videos!) next month so a readathon to coincide would be great!

    Also YEESS LGBTQ+ readathon, I'm in!

    Personally can credit The Art of being Normal as one of my first educators about trans youth & culture-something which I personally think was hugely lacking from my general education. Aiming to do my uni dissertation/Masters on LGBT+ issues in education or sport, do you have any general specific reading about those?

    • @TheGeorgeLester
      @TheGeorgeLester  7 лет назад

      I completely agree with you there. Was definitely my first educators in that field! Hmmm, a very good question!! The Gender Games is pretty good in terms of issues of Gender and Sexuality while growing up and I've just finished The Velvet Rage (Alan Downs) which could be quite useful to you. Hard to think of anything specific on sport though...Perhaps memoirs like Proud by Gareth Thomas (about a gay rubgy player) and Believe by Nicola Adams and Alone by Bill Jones (about John Curry) might be useful?

    I'm so in for the readathon. Sounds like a fantastic idea. I'd have such a hard time picking my fave queer books. I read so many that I love every year.
    Two Boys Kissing may be in mine if I had to choose,though. It is definitely one I need to revisit and a book that has stuck with me for a long time.

    I adore hearing you talk about LGBT books. I'll definitely plan to read Ask the Passengers, I feel like I haven't heard of enough happy f/f fiction so if you had more recommendations in those regards if love to hear them.

    A friend recommended "this book is gay" so I borrowed it from the school library. Some of my other friends saw me with it and now it's in super high demand (at least among my friends) and most of them aren't LGBT which i think is just awesome because they're interested in and want to know about LGBT stuff.

      OOOOH I HAVE!! ISN'T IT GREAT?!?!

    • @keenan7754
      @keenan7754 6 лет назад

      Yeah! I'm new to your channel. Recently checked out your list of A - Z queer lit, and boy have I been having the time of my life getting into more than a few of those recommendations! So, THANK YOU you beautiful human!lol
      You have a really great, infectious personality that feels like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's day.
      Also, I'm not sure if you done a video like this, but would you mind going through some of your favourite LGBT films, particularly those with happy endings???
      Oh, and have you read the two follow ups to Openly Straight? I really loved it, and the open ending left me dying for more. But I'm skeptical about finding out how the story may progressed... esp if it sucks.

    • @TheGeorgeLester
      @TheGeorgeLester  6 лет назад

      Oh I’m so so glad that you’re enjoying these videos and that you’re enjoying my little channel!!! Haven’t thought about doing a video about queer films, what a wonderful idea!!! Thank you for that! :)
      I’ve not!!! And I definitely should have by now!! Will perhaps buy for myself as a Christmas present or maybe even listen to the audiobook. Thanks for the heads up!!! Sending love!

    • @keenan7754
      @keenan7754 6 лет назад

      Haha, I'm glad I could help. But it was more of a question, than a suggestion. I haven't read them myself. I was referring to the 1st book's open ending and my fear of the follow ups ('Openly, Honestly', which is dubbed as 'Openly Straight' 1.5 & 'Honestly Ben' which is 'Openly Straight' 2.0) won't live up to my expectations. Anyways, once I'm done savouring the books off your A - Z list, I too will get down to reading them.
      And if you do get round to making the queer films list, remember the emphasis on WITH HAPPY ENDINGS pretty please. I think we've all seen enough depressing representation in media to last us until the next century. Maybe you could split it into two categories: Must see films of importance (the most impactful films about our history) and then films that show the rewards of all the struggle (the look how far we've come and just imagine what more will be possible in the future films). Gay people living happy, successful, fulfilled lives. Of course, these are all just suggestions. I'd personally prefer a list of just happy films coz I made a personal vow a few years ago to never watch another sad gay fim again after running through the gamut of mandatory depressing films haha. But its your channel and I'm a fan regardless.

      Juno Dawson is a trans woman and that edition of the book is old, her older books have been reprinted under her name now but of course people will still have the older copies
