Wow , they completely igonored what made the story great in the first place. It's an intimate tale of a girl trying to survive in a hopeless landscape littered with remnants of human lives consumed by technology and their addiction to it.
This movie is like 95% green screen and 5% actors sitting down in a diner.
You saw it already? lol lay off the optimism your smile is showing.
@@Adam-zc3of that’s true
Genuinely impressive how drastically different the art style and tone is from Simon Stalenhag's book. What a missed opportunity
oh my god I didn't even realize and I've been a fan of their art forever.
Yeah the tone seems off. I've never read the books but looking at the art I was expecting something like The Last of Us when it comes to the atmosphere. But that's Netflix for you, every one of their movies feel the same.
@@uk3h his art alone is well worth more of your time than this movie will be
authors need to stop giving netflix these opportunities
tone i can see but idk about the art style. I mean here's just a few shots that look straight out of the book 0:12, 0:18, 1:23, 1:35. Id say they did a phenomenal job portraying Simon's artstyle. I do have concerns about the tone tho.
Why do trailers use popular songs but slowed down and in reverb?
Because it's familiar yet "edgy" 🤷🏻♂️
sound cool
Because the low IQ out there (the vast majority it sometimes seems) lap it up like it's the coolest thing ever. People clap like seals for nostalgia. Which is why everything is a reboot/sequel/prequel these days
Because it sounds cool?
@@popjibbletz Maybe years ago, not cool anymore.
I’m so glad we are getting this instead of more seasons of Mindhunter , Dead Boy Detectives , and all the other shows they’ve cancelled 🥴
Well this is a movie..... so.
@@AlongForTheRideee well. They are spending money on these movies…. Unless Netflix contributes zero money to the movie 🥴
I just finished season 2 of Mindhunter and I'm so pissed to learn it was discontinued
Agreed.
So sad we lost dead boy detectives
"Humans lost connection with each other."
Ah, so the exact opposite of what happens in the book. I get the feeling that the Russo brothers just looked at the pictures and made up their own story.
This looks waay off... This should be an unsettling story which would paint a picture of a dystopian, decaying world where technology has overtaken society in an eerie, almost apocalyptic manner.
But this looks like the typical goofy adventure movie. How can they fail so hard with a good material?
Exactly make it disturbing make people give a face of shock and confusion and disgust of the sentry zombies and robots
@@Mono-26u well maybe it will still be
Trailers are meant to get tickets sold. There might still be a dystopian story in the full film.
@@ThisIsMyFullName Yeah but I’d rather keep my expectations low just to be safe
@@buniboi2163 Yeah I hope so
I’ll confess, I haven’t read the book, but the visuals I’ve seen were striking, the vastness and eeriness were uniquely unsettling and interesting. This just makes it feel…disappointingly full. Like someone set up plastic tables and chairs in a cathedral. Yeah, it’s still a nice venue, but it’s not treated with the respect it deserves
Netflix has invested way too hard in Millie Bobby brown.
She is boring
Man, that trailer template is sure feeling worn out
It’s been at least 15 years now
It's all they know
If voiceover ever make a comeback let me know
Ending the trailer with a joke or a marketable visual. Boy o boy, cant wait for more manufactured slop😊
@@gabehobbsthey don’t do the trailer. Bozo. 😂
Could have made 10 seasons of Mindhunters with this budget.
Not sure adding the 'avengers' template to this source material is the right idea, it's just a generic expensive sci fi movie now. Loses all the impact
This cost $320 million? The executives at Netflix should of just took that money and flushed it down the toilet one penny at a time.
It hasn't come out yet and I'm looking forward to watching it
Look at the cast😂
You literally haven't even seen it
It should be called Guardians Of The Stranger Galaxy Things 😂
...All at Once
This still looks interesting but its a shame. I was expecting something more creepy based on the art
Same
I'll tell you what's creepy is Chris Pratt's wig
@@JohnnyNiteTrain ain’t no way that’s a wig I’d just call that a bad hair cut
@Eyesore-I4u I don't love having to see Chris Pratt in everything but his haircut here looks completely fine lol.
@@nvrndingsmmr Nah bro it’s just a bunch a short af curls should’ve kept his main hair style fits the detective style better
I love the original art so much, and people are saying that this movie doesn't do it justice, I disagree. It should have never been made into a movie in the first place. The feelings that the electric state gives you can only be properly presented the way it already was. You can tell there is no love, no care for the message of the art, in fact this movie represents the very thing that the book was warning about, greedy corporations and useless consumerism. The budget should have been spent somewhere else.
YES BRO
To see the art turned into a movie is quite a thing.
Wow, this looks awful. The trailer makes it look like an Avengers film, between casting, explosions, bright colors and bad CGI, literally even down to the font. Really sucks to see this have none of Stålenhag's deep, atmospheric, and haunting atmosphere
genuinely impressive visual storytelling from just a few images to the default "adventure through a dystopian world" movie. and of course they had to get the typical name-you-know actors. i love chris pratt but can we please just have someone else for goddamn once?
book: Amazing art and more subtle worldbuilding
trailer: chris pratt, classic rock song, and generic green screen
Looks very different from the book, but not necessarily in a bad way. I loved Into The Loop.
Guess this could be called “Protectors Of The Protagonists Volume 1”
Millie Brown and Chris Pratt.. seems like the movie to put on while vacuuming
She's really stuck with Netflix, isn't she?
Yeah and this might be a hot take, it's because she isn't a good actress. No emotional range, same vocal tones and line delivery as Stranger Things. Such a shame.
in the original book there was nothing about robots needing freedom and they characterize michelle as some main character when she was originally just a rebellious teenager trying to find her brother. they also completely get rid of the twist at the end of the book which is one of the best parts. most of the original book is michelle remembering everything that happens before the story which not only fills you in on the plot but also builds up the narrative about her brother, i am disappointed in netflix
This does not even remotely match the tone, themes, or even general style of the book.
Should have only included Bobbie. I have nothing against Chris Pratt but he feels unnecessary in this film.
1:24 I GOT THAT REFERENCE!!!
Wait, zero mention of Simon or all of this being based on his work? Lmao
Did you expect them to. They probably told people not to look at the source material so they could make another marvel slop copycat.
I always took to be more of a horror story, not an action packed goofy adventure… also, giving away the plot twist in the trailer is crazy
I'm so torn. I love the look, and the book the art is taken from. There are genuinely creepy aspects, like all the people in vr helmets. If you toned down the action, and just had the characters explore and survive in the environment - that'd be perfect.
> robots lost their freedom
ok bye
If the sequel isn't called The Electric bogaloo weve failed as a society
just go watch "tales from the loop" if you like Stalenhag's artstyle... it's faaaar better than this piece of crap
I’ve been waiting to see this trailer. I’ve known it’s been in protection for a while and have been excited about it, because I’m such a fan of Stalenhag, and Tales from the Loop. This trailer tells me everything I need to know about what this movie actually is - a cash grab and very very loosely based on an amazing artists work.
And can we please stop pretending Chris Pratt is the go-to guy, and actually cast someone with some actual range?!
L opinion, this looks very good
This looks so obscenely bad. This trailer alone makes not only not want to see this movie, but I do t want to see MBB or Pratt in anything ever again.
Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence (2001) X Pinocchio for Zoomers. It's also got that Ready Player One (2018) and Ryan Reynold's The Adam Project (2022) vibe to it. Dystopian future, follows an optimistic child partnered with father figure they convinced to find a soul for their AI robot who's having an identity crisis. 2 hour journey on the moral implications of assigning "feelings" to an artificial machine.
I'm a real boy!
0 mention on Stalenhag, who despite propably selling the rights for the movie, has done the entire worldbuilding himself. Netflix nowadays has not only 0 good ideas on making series, but even the best ideas are now botched and Marvel-ized for the masses. A waste.
Maybe he didn't want his name attached to this bastardization of his work.
I wouldn't blame him, and I hope whe was at least well paid for this.
"Who throws a fridge..."
The tone of the trailer does not match the tone of the artwork
I’m 💯 in! I just wish it’d get a theatrical run.
I might watch this while I'm ironing.
@@Dr_JasmineAnita You're welcome.
...over a 3 week period till I finish it or give up (depending).
@NuMetalRikki The best way to watch movies.
You should watch Ironman while ironing
might put in on in the background of a party or use it as the foundation of a drinking game
The whole "vast scandinavian enviroment and climate"-vibe from stålenhags books doesn't really translate to mf SEATTLE. what were they thinking.
The Electric State book is set in America
Ke Huy Quan aka OB marvel Loki , Short Round Indiana Jones! :D🎉🎉✨✨
He sucks
I still have no idea what this movie is going to be about, but I'm pretty sure I'm not curious enough to watch it. Even from my couch.
Looks fun, I’ll check it out
This movie looks hella cheesy. Like what is even the point of the movie?
0.32 is 📍 Banganga Tank Walkeshwar Mumbai
No mention of Simon Stålenhag?
for everyone talking about how trailers are almost showing the whole movie, have ya'll forgotten that 80 and 90s trailers used to be the same way?
Should’ve been rated R
If not 17 or 18
Why is Mr. Peanut in this movie?
In the original book, the creepy forced cheeriness juxtaposed with the haunting silence of a decaying America is part of the atmosphere, and it works really well.
Not here, though, where everything has to be action-comedy...
WHY ARENT YOU GUYS GIVING THIS A PROPER THEATRICAL RELEASE? THOSE ARE MOVIE STARS YOUVE GOT IN YOUR MOVIE. FOR SHAME
Hella hate in the comments 😂 it looks good to me 😅
se tem ela eu já não assisto
Glad they took a lot of images from the book. Fingers crossed the script will be as good as the visuals!
You folks down here are a trip, get over yourselves
I know look at all these losers with the ability to read
The love for Mindhunter here ❤
Everything about this feels so generic, down to the song dare I say....
This is based on a book
This looks interesting
Simon Stålenhag's art has come to life
Tales from the Loop was great too
Ohh trailer seems interesting and plot is rather fascinating. On top of it we got Millie Brown and Chris Pratt It is a must watch Movie!!!

Eleven, Star Lord, Ouroboros "OB", Dr. Abraham Erskine, Moff Gideon, Sam Wilson / Falcon / Captain America, Dan Truman, Cletus Kasady / Carnage
No need to finish watching this trailer... I'm sold
I haven’t read the books but this has a very Amblin entertainment feel ( goonies / et / Indiana jones ) I’m such a sucker for swashbuckling adventures. This looks fantastic!!!
This just looks bad
idk why but Millie is not a good actor imo. She's just not likable I guess, until she plays like an actual serious role
Song??
Completely missed the mark. A disgrace to the source material.
This thing makes Transformers look great.
Yeah, and I'm going to rewatch Tales from the loop. 凸(ಠ_ಠ)>
Oasis!
NONE OF THIS IS BASED ON SIMON STALSTALENS BOOK!!!!!!!
Geez a bunch of cold blooded critics here. It’s based off of a graphic novel, of course it’s cgi heavy. Hence the word “graphic”
people aren't annoyed at the cgi--they're annoyed at the tone. if you read the book, you'd understand. it's absolutely not suited to be an uplifting, comical adventure story with chris pratt and happy robots. it's a cold and desolate trek through a dead world. no comic relief quips. no big battles. no robots losing their rights after the "robot rebellion" or whatever, and scrambling to get them back. no scheming villains or wacky scientists or sidekicks. maybe that's not commercial, but it is what is--making such dramatic changes in tone and plot structure was bound to piss of the established audience who already like the work. at best, the movie may draw in a new audience--but you can't expect people familiar with the work not to make comparisons in the tone and be disappointed.
@ I’d watch the movie before I draw an opinion from a 3 min trailer
@jackfrost9573 if you read the book you would see that the trailer is a three minute misrepresentation of the story. People are going to react to that 🤷
If they did a remake of Schindler's list and put out a 3 minute trailer making it look like a marvel movie with fun mad scientists and a roguish sidekick, with wonderwall playing in the background, with comic quips and stylized battle scenes, people would react the same way. And it wouldn't be unreasonable. It really is that extreme, tonally.
Huh…. I’ll check it out!
Brought to you by the team that _doesn't_ want Netlix to fail.
Neat. So this is based off of a book, so I’ve heard.
hollywood uses playstation 2 for their renders
This looks like it might be fun. Might be. For some reason i don't like Millie Bobby Brown. Don't know why. This might make me change my mind.
Short Round's in it though. He can only really play himself but that's fine by me 😁
should have got nathan halpern back this looks like complete boo
I got goosebumps watching this and for for some strange reason.. nostalgia? Trailer almost had me in tears, wtf. This looks good
CGI only looks nothing like the book
@@Mono-26u actually I'll say the cgi and design are the only things they got right, and the teams involved in both deserve praise for it
@@shealupkes Yeah it really does show where most of the budget goes just not to the actors though

So a wall e live action on steroids
Seems like they took something and turned it into something it's not.
He’s her brother from the future or another timeline. Just guessing.
This season of Stranger Things looks wild.
Looks amazing
Oh cool so it’s like the complete tonal opposite from the book.
missing the mystery, coldness, and dread, and has jokes to spare
Oh noooooooo. Nooooooo Oasis, please no, no Oasis.
A real emphasis on the cartoonish robots. I don’t know anything about the art source material but it’s a bit of a shame they abandoned all the horror, grim vibes some of the art gives.
How would you not know about the art source material but know about the aesthetic when there in the same book did you even bother reading it?
@@Mono-26u I didn’t read the book I’ve only seen images on twitter.
@@Dead_pixelz_ read the book so you can understand the art and aesthetic better to give a better critique
@@Mono-26u I don’t need to read the book to feel that I like the dark art pieces from the artist over the cartoon silly art that is the focus of this movie. Or at least, the cartoon silliness was the focus on the advertisement.
@@Mono-26u I agree the book was good and deserves a read but it's a disservice to stalenhag to claim his images don't provide the atmosphere all by themselves, they each speak a thousand words after all
I've always wanted this song to play at my funeral and I'm only 39 and have always dug Oasis
