In the latest episode of Figuring Out with Raj Shamani, we are in converation with Ajai Chowdhry. Ajai Chowdhry is a visionary pioneer who cofounded HCL in 1976 with five others, with a dream of using the microprocessor & changing the world. He spearheaded HCL’s expansion into Singapore in 1980, & created a successful business spanning ASEAN, China, & Hong Kong. Today, HCL is valued at an impressive US $50 billion.
Ajai has played a leading role in the establishment of the electronics industry in India, serving on government committees since 1999. He has been nominated by MEITY as a Member to the Advisory Board of India Semiconductor Mission. He has also been appointed as a member of the Consultation Group on Science & Technology and Innovation Sector & as a Member of the Committee on the Semiconductor Sector by NITI Aayog.
In recognition of his efforts to build the IT & Electronics industry in India, in 2011 he was conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan, by the Hon’ble President of India. He is the recipient of many other awards, including the Electronics Man of the Year 2010, CNBC TV18’s India Innovator of the Year Award 2010, & Cybermedia Business ICT Award 2013 for Lifetime Achievement in ICT.

What do you do in HCL?
Was great to see Ajay Ji. I started my career in Microcomp Ltd and then went on Dubai. I still. remember my interview with DS Puri n CR Ramesh in Mumbai. This was my first job offering, and I went on to crack another 9 jobs, all in my second year Graduation course.
I still chose to join the HCL group because the interview process inspired me and I rejected a much higher salary from a Paints company for this specific reason.
Yes they selected a great bunch of people as Ajay reminisces. Tgat part they really got spot on.

P.S: I can relate a lot on Right to Repair Law, i have VU TV, called them for service, they visited and said we need to replace PCB i asked why can't you repair he said it cannot be repaired and only Part replacement is possible with a charge of 18K, i got it repaired from Local Technician/Service engineer for 6K. Hopefully it changes Soon!

Raj please keep bringing experienced businessman like Ajai Chowdhry Sir to your podcast, I was quite amazed to know that not every old people can be trending and adapting to today's mindset and that was the game changing personality he has and that's the reason HCL TECH is worth billions of dollars.
HCL has really a great bondage.Once upon a time I discovered the wisdom out of the banner like whether I have start up gene or not.That sounded great in case after recession comprising of mass layoff.
Really enjoyed the Podcast, definitely would like to have more Sales VP’s of big 5s to be interviewed & bring there thoughts & experiences handling sales team in such big organisations.
