- In this session Anthony starts by shareing a tragic incident that occurred in Texas, where a bridge collapsed after being hit by a barge. Drawing a parallel, he explains that undiscipled men can be like those barges, carrying the weight of the world and causing destruction unless they encounter something solid.
Anthony emphasizes the importance of discipling men and acknowledges that men and women are different. He notes that while men are made to be strong and aggressive, without proper discipling, these qualities can be dangerous. He believes it is crucial to reach and disciple men differently, considering the changing definitions of masculinity in today's world.
Using the movie "Inception" Anthony shares that men often find themselves in the middle of life's challenges without remembering how they got there. He acknowledges that men tend to be rough and resistant to things they don't understand. Therefore, he stresses the need to disciple men uniquely so they can navigate through their struggles.
Anthony points us to 1 Samuel 22:1-2, which describes how David escaped and found himself in a cave with other men who were distressed, in debt, and discontented. From this story, the speaker highlights the importance of meeting men where they are. He shares an example from his own church, where they organize men's retreats to create an environment where men can come together and be real with each other.
Anthony encourages accepting the truth about one's struggles and being vulnerable in seeking help. He acknowledges that men often have a societal expectation to keep going and not ask for directions or admit when they don't know how to fix things. He urges men to accept that they don't have to have all the answers and that Jesus can take care of their problems.
In conclusion, men need to help each other navigate through life. He encourages men to admit their struggles, accept the truth, and follow the light of Jesus. He believes that as men unite and support each other, they can be better than they were before. He emphasizes that while he does not have all the answers, he knows who does.
