I don’t think they are referring to European players as a whole, but the European players that are coming to the NWSL. It seems like the NWSL is headed in the direction of taking on the European players that once were starters in their leagues, but have since been benched for newer, bigger stars. For example, Alanna Kennedy (still great) is leaving Man City, where she has been struggling, to come to ACFC. Esther Gonzalez was losing steam at Real Madrid. Jessie Fleming (I know, Canadian), was coming off the bench only at times for Chelsea before going to Portland. Kenza Dali was playing for a flailing Aston Villa. Jen Beattie, once a starter for Arsenal, came off the bench before going to Bay FC. There are plenty of examples. We are not seeing stars like Russo, Hemp, Williamson, Bronze, Putellas, Buhl, etc. coming to the NWSL. If they are moving, they are moving within European leagues that are, at this point, more competitive. These players aren’t “second class” but they are at the later stage of their careers and on a downward trajectory. I am not trying to be insulting. I love these players and have watched their careers when they were in their European leagues and NWSL, but this is not great for the future of the league.

I don't think Nighswonger is what Arsenal need urgently. The club lack pace and I think she played so few minutes at the Olympics because of the lack of pace. Letting Cloe Lacasse go was a massive mistake as was signing Mariona as a wide player who slows play down every time she gets the ball on the wing (she's very good in the centre though). Arsenal need to start replacing the 30 somethings when their legs go; Hurtig is too regularly injured, get her out, then Mead within 18 months, Foord 18-30 months. They could never afford Rodman so I won't even dream about it. I think Jule Brandt is available on a free in the summer so I'd spend the money on her if possible
It'll be harder to watch their games so that's the main part that concerns me and I'm sure the NWSL won't be happy building up stars who are potentially going to leave, but it happens and you deal with it. My main concern is that the ones who do leave - BALL! Absolutely. Was thinking about this yesterday as I consumed an array of “is this the end times” content from NWSL fans. The one structural problem the NWSL does have is that the absolutely elite players will inevitably want to leave the country due to salary cap restrictions. It will be impossible to be in a competitive team and earn your worth for those at the top end. Whereas they can move to Europe and play for an elite club and earn elite cash. Also, it was always inevitable that once European clubs could match the earning potential of the NWSL, players would want to play in Europe. Playing for Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, juventus, man city , PSG etc means something to a football fan. It means a lot more than playing for a franchise that was here one day, gone the next. The Matildas are a good case study as they’re neither American nor European and at one point in time nearly all of them played in the NWSL. Now, with a couple of exceptions, they all play in Europe.

Chelsea needs Sam more than they need Trinity. And contrary to what ithers believe they dont just buy players for buying sake. They want to compete for all four cups and to do that they need depth. Sam got injured so they bought Mayra. Millie got injured so they bought Nathalie. Now that Kedesha is injured they need Niomi. They need a defensive mid because Sophie is injured. If they go for Trinity is because Lauren is injury prone and they need a winger.

Europe (especially England) is always going to attract top talent. Europe is the heart of football just like the US is for the NBA. Anybody who wants to make something of their football career, they'll want to come to England. The WSL is really starting to grow and the women's Arsenal team are now using the Emirates stadium (Arsenal's mens stadium) which is a 60,000 + capacity stadium and they'll play in the Champions League which is the most elite club competition in the world. I don't know why players wouldn't want to come to Europe. Also Arsenal and Chelsea have American owners who love to franchise everything and buy low and sell high (which is something we despise here in the UK).

You can't underestimate the allure of Champions League. The opportunity to be the elite playing against the elite. I know a lot of Americans think they have the best league. That may be true in terms of competitiveness, but it may not be true in terms of opportunity, wages, and challenge. I fully expect the US to 'lose' the cream of its players over coming year to Europe. 1. That's not a lot of players when you factor in the number of teams and leagues in Europe. 2. The US cap system likely needs to be revised with the meteoric rise of women's football and salaries. 3. Good players are coming to the US League. Maybe not the elite, but likely we are going to see more and more of an exchange. With that said its also likely it will be an initial swing to Europe initially.

the ONLY one advantage is to also play the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (chelsea 100% ,arsenal 90% ,also city 80%)
the way Rodman says 'let's see how this all pans out' suggests that she's not at all averse to joining Arsenal, even if it's just fans speculating at this point. the fact is, if any of the big English mens' teams decided that they didn't need to make money on women's football and could stand to lose several million more, any of them could buy the whole USWNT.
Wow that would be amazing to have these players over here in the WSL ! I’m not a Chelsea or Arsenal fan maybe they could come to City 😅
I would love to see rodman in PsG with chloe kelly that forward would be interesting or Real madrid is also a nice club for her i think she would fit there really good
Is Keira Walsh no longer going to Arsenal? I can’t remember what happened with that.
Barcelona rejected their enormous offer for her, I think.
@@fuzzy1921 Yes that's right! Barcelona repeatedly rejected the record offer for $1.2 million. That does show that Arsenal were willing to pay big money for the players they really want.
Think it will diminish the league big time but they will keep it afloat...esp with Emma here...luv to hear her view
Don’t forget that Stan Kronke own the Arsenal! It’s American owned! Arsenal are the best team to join!
Mallory Swanson next.
If Trinity goes to Arsenal it'd be my favorite thing to ever happen #COYG
Nighswonger is only 24 and plays in the same UWNT as Girma. Why is she only valued at $100k when Girma cost a million? Is her contract ending this summer so it's more of a token fee? In which case why not wait until the summer then. Anyway good to have competition for McCabe
we need the players by who is gonna be left for the nswl . Trinty arsenal good but wish we can have her also Chelsea fan here but we still have smith on our radar.
We will have them. Alice, UK. xx
Let’s be honest trinity would want to play with the best and currently chelsea front are the best imagine a combination of lj,sam, ramirez, cat, guro and so on😂 it’s an easy pick plus am sure if ever smith decides to leave nwsl chelsea are also going to go after her aggressively 😂
Arsanl needs Trinity ❤
Why would the NWSL be in crisis.? I really feel like people just started watching women’s sports. This is nothing new
Semi click-bait - im the worst lol
With that said its also likely it will be an initial swing to Europe initially.
i seen it coming/it was already began when rachel daly and sam kerr went to the super league....it not the end of the world just like spain has their league and england has their ...USA AND ENGLAND will have their own...but i do admit in terms of losing such notable names hurt...but it not the end of the world...but it will be interesting when the usa players play in the champions league (oh i want usa clubs to participate in the champions league so bad)
this really sucks, not good for USA womens league and where is Dunn going?
Yeah, where is she going? I vote for Angel City!
Well I guess they ate offered good money why not move meet new people new country England an education for Americans take care
Chelsea need to replace Guro Reiten soon she’s 31. Rodman would be a perfect upgrade
lol She’s their top goal scorer this season. Plus Lucy Bronze is turning 34 this year 🤷♀️
They just signed Sandy Baltimore and Reiten extended her contract in the last few weeks
@@deirdre96 defenders always play to an older age, when a winger lose their speed they’re done. Plus Chelsea are ruthless being top scorer doesn’t mean you’re gonna play all the time.
WTF! Chelsea needs to start LOSING players, not getting new ones. Hopefully since all the US players are on an exodus to the U.K., the Chelsea (and some of the other top) players will move to the U.S. Anyway, if Rodman goes to the U. S. I hope she goes to Man. City! Imagine her up front with Bunny Shaw?! Wow!
Anyway, don't worry about the US players going to the U.K. When one leaves, another one will be brought in from the USL Super League, from the colleges, or from Canada, Spain, France, Mexico, Brazil, etc., etc. The NWSL should still be a great league to watch. What's all this about salary caps though? Why have salary caps? Surely the ability to earn more will pull the most talented players to your league. Seems weird to me.
Hello Sarah and Sara. If you can't beat 'Emma's, join 'em. Fancy a move to England? I will have to buy a lottery ticket for you. A million quid might get you a tiny property in Chelsea?
Your username is appropriate.
@mikejames6664 Always trying
Sarah and Sara. What is going on, like you said! Plus what Shebahn said in this video!

OH wow!! Very interesting! I got to the part where Keira didn't feel like Arsenal valued her enough to get her! ! VERY interesting! !
