They're cutting energy use, playing their part in Taipei City's green goals, and even aligning with Taiwan's plan to be carbon-neutral by 2050. In 2023, their solar panels alone saved a whopping 9,600 metric tons of carbon emissions. And with over 200 million riders every year, Taipei Metro is a major player in reducing emissions. So next time you hop on the metro, you're not just getting around - you're making a difference for the environment! 2) The 2025 Taipei Camellia Show 臺北茶花展愛與夢想10號登場 Want to make the most of the weekend before the Chinese New Year? The 2025 Taipei Camellia Show welcomes the flower season from January 10th to 19th at the Floriculture Experiment Center on Yangming Mountain. With the theme "Life of Love and Dreams," the event invites visitors to enjoy the beauty of camellias, which represent grace and strength. The show will display over 300 types of camellias, including Taiwan's native flowers and carefully grown bonsai. Visitors can join guided tours, workshops, and fun hands-on activities to learn more about these lovely winter flowers. One highlight is the 2025 Taipei Chinese New Year Market, which will run from January 11 to 27 on Dihua Street. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the market’s theme, "Three Decades of Festive Joy," reflects its rich cultural heritage and lively atmosphere. making it a must-visit destination for everyone. Nianhuo is a Chinese term referring to the goods people purchase to prepare for the holiday. These include traditional food items, festive decorations, and unique souvenirs. Don’t miss this iconic celebration of the Chinese New Year! 4) Taipei’s Couplet Calligraphy Event 春聯揮毫活動 And now, for another exciting Chinese New Year event. On January 9th, Taipei City celebrated the Chinese New Year with a vibrant calligraphy event at City Hall. Fifty-six calligraphers gathered to create festive couplets for the public. Mayor Chiang Wan-an and Zhang Binghuang, president of the ROC Calligraphy Society, also showcased their calligraphy skills, sharing heartfelt New Year wishes with everyone. Mayor Chiang said this is a wonderful tradition, and we should keep it going. [sound bite] 蔣市長語音 Chinese New Year couplets, or chūnlián, are a cherished tradition. These poetic lines, written on red paper, symbolize good fortune, prosperity, and happiness.
