Is the 570GT the Best McLaren Sports Series?

- Over to sunny Tenerife for the launch event with the new McLaren 570GT, the latest addition to their Sports Series line of cars. With the same engine setup as the 570S but a softer ride and more gentle steering rack, the GT is aimed at a grand touring lifestyle and more daily usage with additional storage found through the rear hatchback window.
Starting off showing you around the car and its design changes in comparison with the co-existing 570S model before a glance at the interior and ultimately a wonderful drive on a closed road! Upon returning to the hotel a slightly more detailed look around the inside before sadly handing the keys back.

I like the GT more than the S.. Looks better and cleaner with the new hatch in my opinion.
The only thing I would do is maybe ask for a darker tint from MSO or ask for electrochromic glass

I agree with you on that one. It's difficult but I still think I would choose a used 650S over a new Sports Series model. I am still unsure about the styling of the Sports Series, especially the 570S. I do think the 570GT sorts that out a bit more though.
They look the same to me. What part of the car looks different compared to the 570s?

I haven't seen any McLaren in the flesh apart from a P1, but the 570 certainly isn't up there with the 675LT at all.
Again; you need to see them side by side in real life. Pictures truly don't do the car justice.
It looks much better than the 650s,the 650s looks like a 12c with the p1s front end glued on it......

And it's only a 6 years old car manufacturer.
Road legal Mclaren f1 came out in 1992.

I don't see why people would get the other one. This car has all the fun, comfort, and cargo space. You can take it for any task and be fine.

This might be the best review you've done, Shmee! Love it. I felt like I was in on the ride, and you've never done that before to that extent. Very good!
I personally think this is (if we do not count colour configuration of this car) the second best looking McLaren with the 570S in the first place. But if I had the choice between the two I'd go for the 570GT because of the extra luggage space and the softer ride. I prefer a sporty ride, but I'm pretty sure that even the 570GT is sporty enough to be interesting :)
Now that I'm a bit more in the video I realise that the colour configuration of this 570GT is most likely (in my opinion of course) the most ugly configuration.
The gt has a sport pack you can get that gives it the suspension and powertrain of a 570s so it's even sportier

I liked this one as the car came in the exact interior color I would choose. But next time put the forward looking camera behind the passenger seat. First 10 min. of the drive ruined buy rear view mirror in the way of seeing down the road!

Considering he Currently has a 675LT and taking delivery of a spyder version next month aswell I don't think he will order one. He already has a daily and really who needs three mclarens at once. Mr JWW should swap his r8 for one of these tho.
I don't think so, I believe it is important to him that the car holds its value, which would not be the case with the 570GT. For example, he bought the LT and GT4 new because he anticipated them not to lose much value. But he bought the FF used to avoid losing too much money. He mentioned this in one video I believe.

99% sure Shmee can never affod a brand new Agera. The price is huge and the running costs are probably even more.
Tim this was a great video in terms of your knowledge about the car and how you articulated it. Also cameras were in good positions so we could see what was going on. And my usual annoyance of bad audio wasn't an issue here so very enjoy full video. Although it would have made the video even better had you had a mic on. But bravo.

shmee do you prefer this car or the db11 ?
The microphone shaped speaker on the center dash seems distracting and takes away from the look. Everything else on the car looks great but that speaker would have to go. Even the reflection of it when you were filming in the passenger seat was nauseating.

How ridiculous of McLaren to make a car with a fixed glas roof and weak A/C system. The glass roof isn't even like the Mercedes SL, can't be elctronically dimmed. Not a car for a warm, not to say hot climate. Otherwise, stonking car!

Shmee150 My friends dad just got a 570S, he accidentally left the bonnet slightly open and as it has no catch it flew up when he was driving, smashed the windscreen and caused 32K's worth of damage McLaren said. He refused to pay it, design fault IMO.
It isn't a design fault if he didn't push it down properly. Porsche's have the same design so...
He said he accidentally pressed the release button in the car and didn't realise apparently. It should not then fly up even when that happens. Side doors always have a catch so even if the door is not fully shut it won't open. The bonnet is arguably more dangerous than that as you can't see then! Imagine that flying up at speed! Design fault.
+Kristian Turner-Radford No amount of design can stop the air getting in under the bonnet and lifting it up. It is his own fault for not paying attention.
That is what a bonnet catch is for! What are you talking about? Tim even mentions in the video that the car does not have one.
+Kristian Turner-Radford A bonnet catch which is strong enough to hold the enormous pressure in which the air would cause would have to be pretty big. This means it would destroy the looks and more importantly the practicality (the boot opening would be reduced and the actual boot volume would also be decreased).

15 new models over the next 6 years? Holy crap, I thought they had already gone over the top with the MP4 coupe, 12c Spyder, 540S, 570S, 625S, 650S, 650S Spyder, 675LT, 675LT Spyder, P1, P1GTR. I guess we'll see a GT, S, Coupe, Spyder and perhaps GT-S for every 20bhp variant.
Why is McLaren making so many of these sport series cars? There's the 570s, 570GT and 540C. McLaren are pushing to many cars every year. Like their supercars. Every year it's gotten a massive update. MP4-12C->650s>675LT all with just about 1 year between them. But the reason for that is that their cars don't appreciate value. Well the 675LT does and P1 but P1 is not in this discussion. The 650s and 12C lose a lot of their value in the second hand market. And McLaren seem to desperately get in the Ferrari and Lamborghini battle

It is a nice car but it is a shame that Mclaren hasn't used the active
Hydropneumatic suspension of the 12c. Nobody seems to have noticed,
actually people seem to like the bumpier ride!!! I wish people were
more interested in mechanical technology. A 1955 DS Citroen has more
sophistication in mechanics than most cars on the road today in 2016.
When a car rides and handles well people seem to say it is too boring,
they seem to like to turn stability control etc off and have the back
hang out on corners and bump and down as it is more exciting..its also
s..l..o..w..e..r....
Good, comprehensive review. But, I'd suggest not getting drawn into this format. You're popular because you differentiate yourself to your (our) generation of under 40 year old viewers & say and do what the industry standards like EVO/Auto Car don't do.
Now I imagine myself driving the white one fitted with the 5 spoke lightweight forget wheel, red calipers, carbon fiber exterior pack except for the roof, the sports exhaust + the sport design 4 interior with alcantara and carbon fiber interior components. I guess, for this nonsense, I'll have to blame Shmee150 and the week-end!
Shmee are you pissed at Mclaren now that you bought a limited to 500, 675LT to have them come out with the 675LT spider with another 500 cars that you also bought, and now the 688 HS? Then you know a 688 HS spider will come out.
This car goes up against the 911. So in Aus that's at AUD$350K market. I'd love them to release a car in the AUD$200K range where more of us can afford one...

If you're still on Tenerife, drive to the westside of the Island to Masca. The road is amazing with hairpin after hairpin all the way. You wont regret it :-D
I've gotta test drive the 570GT. I don't think it's better than my MP4-12C but it seems to be a nice cross-country daily beater.
This GT has the stunning looks of the P1, Which the 675 lacks..... I'll have the 675 if any going spare though ;-)

its ugly and stupid. The rear glass opens sideways!! Thats one hell of an option. It also seems that Mclaren are stuck with this kinda design and cant really do dramatic changes with the looks
id have to say the 570gt looks varry like the bmw i8 but it is varry good looking and varry nice, but love the review Tim cant wait for more.

no catch on the hood? isn't that designed to not peel back off the car if you inadvertently press the button and then drive away? Tim....do a test. drive away with it popped and then sue them!
Tim does the car not come with a reversing camera as stock? If so that is crazy ahaha how else would you park it with that visability at the rear. Does it have reversing beeps though?

I must say, I find this the most beautiful McLaren yet! What an exquisite looking car, both on the exterior as well as interior side of it. I'm not a hardcore racer kinda guy, I prefer smoothness and comfort in a ride better. But the fact that you can go at it the with 570GT when preferred is just excellent. Hope to see more of this car Tim :)

The whole car market is super-segmented these days; think how many cars BMW make compared to 20 years ago. People expect choice and personalisation. Also, greater globalisation and different market requirements play a role.
