- Step into the gritty world of 1970s Atlanta, where the boxing ring and the streets collided in an unforgettable saga. This video dives deep into the story of Muhammad Ali, who in April 1967, took a bold stand against the Vietnam War draft on religious grounds, getting him banned from boxing. Fast forward to 1970, and Georgia State Rep Leroy Johnson pulls strings to bring Ali back into the ring for a legendary fight against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta.
But it wasn't just the sports world buzzing. Atlanta in the 60s and 70s was a hotbed for crime and hustling, with deep ties to heroin trafficking through the American military. Meet Mickey Beckworth, linked to mob boss Frank Matthews, who was in the thick of it at Ali's fight, connected to a web of criminal activities across cities.
Then there's the infamous heist after one of these high-profile fights, where a small house in Atlanta saw guests robbed of cash, jewelry, and guns worth over a million dollars in 70s cash, sparking a string of murders. Watch how the 70s also saw Black entrepreneurs shaking up the drug game, cutting out middlemen, and directly importing heroin.
Explore the cultural and political waves of the time, from the Nixon administration's push to empower Black businesses to Milton Henry's 1966 debate with William F. Buckley over the Republic of New Africa movement.
And don't miss the twist of the century-Gordon "Chicken Man" Williams, suspected in a multi-million dollar heist, later found alive as a pastor in Atlanta, a story now on Netflix.
Watch now to uncover the raw, untold story of Ali’s comeback and the crime-laden streets of 70s Atlanta!

The big man in Atlanta at the time I believe is Charlie Kato. My dad told me this story when I was young.
This is true what your dad told you. Charlie Cato was from Bowdon Georgia. He had a club in Bowdon Georgia maybe a 20 minute drive from where I was raised . He had a club and it was said that the Klan burned it down because there were a lot of black and white couples. Supposedly Mr. Cato had insurance on the club and he fled to Atlanta Georgia and was living large!!
Basically..Atlanta been on the finesse game lol. But yea this story was local legend in Atlanta. Chicken Man was well known and end up preaching for alot of years. Good dude

Whoa this sounds very very familiar in tulsa ok days and dallas tx recently
Wth does that mean?
They had machine guns on Uptown Saturday Night at the Madam Zenobia robbery, not shotguns. The choppers they brandished struck more fear in the hearts of the people being robbed and viewers of the movie. Silky Slim was a little more sophisticated. I love when Al talks about Frank Matthews.
Mr Ray my OG good brother one of the reasons I changed my like

Gotta feel of "Harlem Nights"..
....DEFINITELY. WHO'S PLAYING #SUNSHINE?
Ike Atkinson was THE MAN. Frank Lucas stole his story and made it his. Ike himself said Frank did alot of lyin and told on everybody. I think Ike did 20+ years and just recently passed. He is the one there needs to be a movie about. He has a book out here. Somebody needs to get on that while the subject is still hot. Its alot of people not familiar with ike, and he was probably one of if not the biggest American dealer of heroin

That death wished that the gentleman at the 16:11 mark was the precursor to the type of rap music that began emerging in the mid-nineties.
He could see it in 1971
It was mentioned in this video how so much changed from 1965 to 1970 - black people fighting for the right to vote, then the Black Panthers start to disappear - and that's exactly why so many black hustlers, pimps, and gangster popped up (because this was the plan) - we can't stop them from education and voting anymore so let's drop this dope into their communities - (and we feel for it with colorful clown suits on driving Cadillacs) 🤷🏾♂️ - in the middle of the Crack Era street gangs began to evolve and spread to tare down the community even more - and as much as I hate to admit it, yea they pushed Kid and Play, MC Hammer, Public Enemy out of the way and pushed gangster rap to the front line - but we still had a handle on it during the 90s I thought, but it has definitely gotten out of control nowadays - Bill Cosby and others were right (I hate to say it) but they were right - growing up in the late 80s and 90s when you are in the middle of it, you cant see it until you mature and get older - all of this was a plan
