This is not one of those films made for the viewers who watch with subtitles. The humour is truly native and you'll reach the laughs only if you understand telugu.

If you observe closely, almost all of the shirts have the heart stitched on the right side - you know, where the character checks for the heartbeat - (wrongly) confirming the death of the politician.

I feel like people who speak or understand telangana accent will get it much more . Comedy movies have cultural jokes and references around the world . They don't always translate well to other places . Situational comedy,you will get it but rest of the comedy scenes,you need to understand the accent,politics and pop culture references from that place

Oh.. looks like she didn’t get Darshi’s comedy lines timing in the film. For me those unexpected rice and curry scenes were highlight of the film.

Look, Vijay Deverakonda is dubbed as the next Pan-India star, but the real gem and the true Pan-India star might actually be Naveen Polishetty. His acceptance both within Bollywood and Tollywood will surely transcend borders and open up new opportunities. Naveen is a bonafide star and it's truly his time to shine.

The film is made just for fun and entire film is a troll. It's common in Telangana where many people wish to settle in Hyderabad for better life and ends up life less, here they made it full fun.

i wonder how people even understood these jokes throughout the film in every scene without knowing telugu. its completely regional film made for the locals. and anyone who doesnt understand the telangana slang of telugu wont get the humor throughout the film because its just way more funnier in the langugage than in subtitles. and the movie is supposed to be stupid as that is what the director said with a bland storyline and just a film made for people to laugh for 2 1/2 hours. focusing on story etc for this movie is a waste of time. just turn of you're brains enjoy the movie and done

It is an intelligently crafted silly comedy with only intention to make you laugh ... so people save your logical thinking for rohit shetty movies and enjoy this movie with a happy state of mind ... your happiness will definitely gets amplified.
I loved this film, its premise and more importantly the performances of the three male leads and the heroine of the film. There is no second thought on that. Let me also tell you that I love Naveen polishetty as a performer and always wish him to hit it out of the park with his releases. But I just get a feeling that most of the critics are biased towards outsiders and newcomers. I am saying this because as a genre, outlandish humour has generally been criticized by movie critics when done by filmmakers like David dhawan. Take Coolie No. 1 for instance, it has been massively criticized for being absurd and making no sense which is how it is intended by the makers as well. I agree that there might be few scenes like varun being dressed as a nurse which could have been done away with. Maybe this is because of the fact that the preconceived notions we have of the director like David Dhawan sub-consciously affect their opinion of the film. Why is it that some people watch some movies (ft. newcomers and outsiders) for just what they are (being able to take the liberty of having dorky and innocent characters to evoke laughter) and rave about them. while we completely disregard the effort put in by filmmakers like David Dhawan. Is it just me or there is some truth to it?
P.S: Let me admit that I have been following your channel and admired your reviews. Continue doing good work.
I don't think it's because of preconceived opinions. Coolie no. 1 is nothing but a rehash version of 90s story. Nothing novel in approach. Adding to it, varun is too over the top & he couldn't match Govinda's viscosity. Coming to jathiratnalu, though it's outlandish comedy, makers did utmost care right from cast to performances & dialogues. It's kinda old school comedy yet effective & novel in approach.
I have watched both the films and I can even say I like varun dhawan alot ,I watch all his films . But no I couldn't laugh even a single time while watching coolie no 1 please dont defend that trash of a film it's a black mark in his filmography. The terrible acting by every single actor even veteran actors didnt help either , there isnt a single thing I can praise about the film expect for maybe sara ali Khan clothes. Jathirathanalu is fantastic u cannot stop laughing in every single scene. The acting in here is amazing u genuinely connect with all the 3 boys n the female lead.
I genuinely dont give a damn about insiders n outsiders but if a comedy film dosent make u laugh its bad that's it. I laugh more watching varuns interviews than that film.
I don't watch Bollywood movies that much (I am from South) but I can perfectly speak Hindi. Now, Jaathi Ratnalu maybe outlandish for some part of movie but only for like 20-25%. I've seen so many of my friends crack the same jokes, a few of my friends have a personality like that as well( not same, like diluted version of them), So it didn't feel like over the top to me. This movie whole together is like a parody of some sort. But I didn't get that from Coolie No.1. It bored tf outta me. I'd watch Jathiratnalu maybe 3-4 again but I'd rather not watch coolie no 1 again

Telugu comedy is very vernacular so I was not sure you would truly enjoy it but I am glad you did. I kind of disagree with your comment @4:00 about mindless comedies being made, I've found that to be the case with Hindi Cinema but Telugu Cinema has always done comedy very well be it slapstick or subtle

Sorry but she adds to it.. it’s not just a misadventure, it also tells how things work in real world.. for instance you can’t go against a popular opinion/belief..
