  • "The bruises aren’t going yellow or green, they’re just not changing colour, they’re purple and black and they’re not really going anywhere. But I ignored it."💬
Sam was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in 2016. She experienced chesty coughs for months, for which friends advised her to go to the doctor, but Sam chose to ‘ride it out and see how it goes’.
As more of the classic leukaemia symptoms started to occur, Sam was convinced her symptoms could be related to other medical conditions.
The aim of our #SpotLeukaemia campaign is to raise awareness of the signs of leukaemia. If you experience any of the #SpotLeukaemia symptoms, it’s time to visit your GP.

Hi, I understand your frustration. As you are probably aware I think the main emphasis of these videos is to highlight the detection of Blood cancer. It's very worrying/shocking how symptoms of blood cancer can be over-looked and even mis-diagnosed by doctors. In my case with AML it was only picked up during a blood test for a skin treatment. When I went to the GP with fatigue/ breathlessness symptoms and was just told not to over do it in the gym and I was even treated for Asthma. What I learned when in hospital is that everyone is different when it comes down to treatment but the usual procedure is a series of Chemo treatments and a possible Stem-cell procedure if appropriate. There are so many variables, but I think the main thing is getting detected early so the patient is fit and strong enough to undergo treatment (i.e. chemotherapy).

Well I also have heavy periods but sometimes they take forever to show. Irregular big time. Fatigue to the point I take vitamin c with iron, and vitamin d3. Leg pain had me on the d3. Before my iron I had breathlessness when climbing stairs:( but am quite better with breathing now. I am still super tired tho.:( I have a bruise on my left arm I can’t remember making...and my other arm’s elbow got injured a lil while I walked my puppy a month ago and still hurts so heals slow? I don’t drain the bed in sweat and my weight is going up tho. I hope it is nothing like cancer.
