The timing of this video is so perfect that it's almost spooky. I just recently began working with runes and divination- and was sort of confused when I discovered that people attribute different meanings if the rune is facing a certain direction. It's funny I came to this conclusion myself long ago you helped me to reinforce my belief . If your projecting a focus of a goal why focus negative. The runes already have ones that speak on resistance this is enough.
I agree, I see the runes as a story or conversation, each one is effected by the other. I usually pull 6, you cannot know the first without knowing the last, or the last without the first, if you have Isa in the draw it could mean something completely different depending what is on either side. I walk through it piece by piece explaining each and build upon it, then I gather them and tell the tale the runes speak to me as a whole and complete picture. It's a weird out of body feeling, I get this numb sensation but also very emotional, whenever I give a reading.
Yes, yes, so much yes! I have been studying and making and working with Runes for forty years, and have always shared the same feelings about the idea of them being "reversed". I don’t know if will have answer. But I feel safe to share it here with you. I am Ukrainian, currently I live in Norway when war started. But I have been connected to Norway all my life because of my grandmother who married to Norwegian man. I had my first “call” on Norway in my 12 years old. And I always wanted to move to Norway and try to live here. Now I am here and this summer I had another “call” but this time it was about runes and mythology. I started to read books and looking for information for myself and then I decided to dive to it and learn it. But I feel struggle with good information about runes. They are so different and confusing me so much. What I feel, that I want to find a Scandinavian teacher who could provide me information in the Scandinavian way of it. Finally you said something I've always thought. Mind you runes are not my forte but I never understood the reverse of them. In essence we all have multiple sides of most things.
I made a set for myself from lapis and was reading a book on them and in it it had a completely different meaning for inverted runes. This did not make sense because when I see a rune in branches, or bark, inverted or not I always received the same meaning. What do you think of finding runic shaped things in nature? I was outside yesterday and a branch landed right next to me and it had the exact shape of the Algiz rune. On my walk back home I saw another branch near the front door that was also the shape of Algiz. What does that mean, if it means anything? I feel like it is not a coincidence, though, because it happened to me a few weeks ago, too.
Ive never really thought about inverted runes until now. To me inverted runes seems to me like a bad idea such as algiz the protection rune, why would you want no protection? the only case of this I've been wear of is by pure accident when I paint runes on my face as a third eye they are inverted due to the mirror.
Freya - this must be very important information for us to know. began to get chills a few seconds into. ***remember the first time I saw Vegvisir - felt profound fear. [I know this is Icelandic, not Viking, but nonetheless], my point is the symbols do carry powerful energy. Can I ask you a question please? In the Viking shows, the volva uses make-up a certain way. You wear black coal beneath your eyes. Is this a practice among Norse witches/Volvas? Does this contribute to entering the trance state [in other words, should i also do this, will it aid me?]
When runes fall into a position that's not necessarily upright, I usually look to see what it's juxtaposed to and I then interpret how it relates to the rune(s) that it's juxtaposed towards and to see if it flows within the reading. I also look to see if the way that it's positioned is flowing towards the past or flowing towards the future. By reading it in that way, am I seeing it with more facets than just the two, in your opinion? Also, thank you for sharing that information about the induction of the blank rune. I don't work with Tarot, so I'm not familiar with the Fool card or its intended interpretation. I've always gone by the meaning that my grandmother explained to me which was that it wasn't there originally, however, it serves it's own purpose in a reading. Because, some things in life will ALWAYS be an unknown mystery to us for many reasons. Either because we would fail to acknowledge the answer due to our own denials or unwillingness to see the truth for what it is. Or, sometimes it's because some necessary elements of the answer have not come into play yet and things are still left too unfinished to fully answer it. And yet other times, If we were to know the answer, it would change our necessary course of action and take us off course from our natural path. So in those instances and for those reasons, I allow it to have a home in my readings, though I understand that not everyone would embrace it as favorably as I do.
p2-6 One of those runes represents how you will die, and/or the legacy you will leave after your death. Among the moral deities, there are three in particular who represent truly core, personal moral values. One is Odin, who represents facing the truth even when you dislike it; one is Freya, who represents doing what you honestly think is right, even when you aren't supposed to; and one is Thor, who represents being strong, capable, hard-working and industrious, while at the same time knowing the limits of your own strength. Moreover, you can be either faithful or unfaithful to each of those three deities, independent of whether or not you're faithful or unfaithful to either of the other two. Moreover, each of those eight personality types will tend to lead you down a different one of eight basic paths in life, and each of those eight basic paths in life will tend to lead you to one of eight different ways you can die and/or legacies you can leave after your death. Thus the first eight runes are the eight basic personality types, the second eight runes are the eight basic paths in life, and the third eight runes are the eight basic ways you can die and/or legacies you can leave after your death. Thus each rune in each eight, corresponds to the runes in the same position in the other two eights.

I always struggled with the thought of "inverted" or blank runes. It made no sense. I could not find someone teaching me about the runes without the "inverted" or blank part....maybe some day

Consequently, it means that you will be willing to face painful truths, but that you won't have the integrity to do what you honestly believe is right even when you aren't supposed to, and also that you won't be very hard-working or industrious.
I have definitely come across ways of reading the runes I've yet to read about. A scholar friend and I Have come up with a tarot deck with the runes being the aett. I also don't read the cards reversed. We do have math sequences on them. It does help me read timeline potentials much easier with this deck. I'd love to email you about this subject.
p1-6 Ah, Jera, the fourth rune in the second eight. In the native religion of the European races, there are two tribes of deities, one dealing with cosmological principles, and one dealing with moral values. Among the cosmological deities, there's a primordial god and goddess. The goddess is divided into four aspects: the giver of life, known as "Urd"; the maintainer of life, known as "Verdandi"; the taker back of life, known as "Skuld"; and the one who restores and rejuvenates life in preparation for it to be reborn, known as "Hel". Instead, in order to get paid as a ********, you have to be willing to tell people whatever they want to hear, even if you secretly disagree with it. Thus it is a suitable profession for someone unfaithful to Freya. However, in order to get paid as a ********, you DO sometimes have to teach people things which YOU would rather not believe, simply because it's what those other people want to believe. Thus as a ********, you DO sometimes have to be willing to face truths which you dislike. Thus it is a suitable profession for someone faithful to Odin. Now, since Jera is in Verdandi's eight, it has to do with your present and with how you will live. "Jera" literally translates to "year", but what it metaphorically represents is the yearly agricultural festivals observed in pre-********* Europe.
When you're playing the game Scrabble, and you get an upside down or sideways tile, you just turn it right side up...nobody thinks about it, nobody questions it, they just all do it. Runes are letters, why would they be different?

Because they earn their living by telling everyone else whatever those other people wish to believe anyway, they tend to become quite popular, and quite liked by many people. Thus they do indeed tend to die quite famous and well known. Thus if your Verdandi rune is Jera, then your Urd rune is Ansuz, and your Skuld rune is Mannaz.
p6-6 All together, what they mean is that you're willing to face painful truths, that you don't have the integrity to do what you think is right if it gets you in too much trouble with others, and that you're weak, lazy and pathetic, and that because of those things, you are naturally inclined to earn your living telling everyone else whatever they've already decided to believe anyway, your life will therefore be characterized by presiding over religious gatherings, and you will consequently die famous, known by many.

Idk about her. But me and my daughter where that makeup to help with light glare. Especially the long winter months.

One of those runes represents how you will die, and/or the legacy you will leave after your death. Among the moral deities, there are three in particular who represent truly core, personal moral values. One is Odin, who represents facing the truth even when you dislike it; one is Freya, who represents doing what you honestly think is right, even when you aren't supposed to; and one is Thor, who represents being strong, capable, hard-working and industrious, while at the same time knowing the limits of your own strength. Moreover, you can be either faithful or unfaithful to each of those three deities, independent of whether or not you're faithful or unfaithful to either of the other two. Thus the first eight runes are the eight basic personality types, the second eight runes are the eight basic paths in life, and the third eight runes are the eight basic ways you can die and/or legacies you can leave after your death. Thus each rune in each eight, corresponds to the runes in the same position in the other two eights.

I always struggled with the thought of "inverted" or blank runes. It made no sense. I could not find someone teaching me about the runes without the "inverted" or blank part....maybe some day

Since it is the fourth rune in its eight, it has to do with faithfulness to Odin, but unfaithfulness to Freya and to Thor. Consequently, it means that you will be willing to face painful truths, but that you won't have the integrity to do what you honestly believe is right even when you aren't supposed to, and also that you won't be very hard-working or industrious.
I have definitely come across ways of reading the runes I've yet to read about. A scholar friend and I Have come up with a tarot deck with the runes being the aett. I also don't read the cards reversed. We do have math sequences on them. It does help me read timeline potentials much easier with this deck. I'd love to email you about this subject.

Ah, Jera, the fourth rune in the second eight. In the native religion of the European races, there are two tribes of deities, one dealing with cosmological principles, and one dealing with moral values. The literal translation of "Ansuz" is "one of the ****". However, what it metaphorically means is "one who IS of the ****", i.e. a ******** or other ********* leader. This is appropriate, because such people, able to see the world clearly and rationally, exactly as it is, but having no ***** integrity whatsoever, and not being very industrious or hard working, are naturally suited to ********* professions. You see, being a ********* leader doesn't take much hard physical work. Thus it is a suitable profession for someone unfaithful to Thor. Likewise, one simply can't get paid as a ******** if you insist on telling people what you honestly believe. Instead, in order to get paid as a ********, you have to be willing to tell people whatever they want to hear, even if you secretly disagree with it. Thus it is a suitable profession for someone unfaithful to Freya. However, in order to get paid as a ********, you DO sometimes have to teach people things which YOU would rather not believe, simply because it's what those other people want to believe. Thus as a ********, you DO sometimes have to be willing to face truths which you dislike. Thus it is a suitable profession for someone faithful to Odin. Now, since Jera is in Verdandi's eight, it has to do with your present and with how you will live. "Jera" literally translates to "year", but what it metaphorically represents is the yearly agricultural festivals observed in pre-********* Europe.

All together, what they mean is that you're willing to face painful truths, that you don't have the integrity to do what you think is right if it gets you in too much trouble with others, and that you're weak, lazy and pathetic, and that because of those things, you are naturally inclined to earn your living telling everyone else whatever they've already decided to believe anyway, your life will therefore be characterized by presiding over religious gatherings, and you will consequently die famous, known by many.
