YOU TOOK THE WORDS ... I agree, the best song ever. I identify so much with this number. Got the shivers hearing and seeing it live. Too bad I live in the Netherlands and can't see them live. But great to see there are others like me ...
James Bond producers frequently express interest to bands when seeking the theme song for their next upcoming film. They asked The Fixx to try their hand at a Bond theme song and this was the result. They passed on the song (fools!) and so it ended up on the band's 3rd album "Phantoms" from '84. The 5 member lineup from the band's heyday of '82-'93 is still touring and recording. Their 9th studio CD will be released in '09 as will Cy's 3rd solo CD. Never miss their great live shows!
The fixx has just as many hits as anyone. This by far is the best group ever. We as a family saw them in concert oct 2021 in ponte vedra. Still has it. We all love you fixx.
What a band, so many memories of parties in my late teens where we thrashed this and others from Phantoms, and Reach the Beach, musical sophisticated and so evocative
I love this song. I got totally hooked on it listening to their Phantoms album. Rupert Greenall is a master at the keyboard. His sounds make me feel like I'm floating in the song. The whole band works together so well so they leave breathing room in the music so as to not overplay. Each of their songs have its own distinct feeling and takes the listener on a journey to a different place. I never get bored of listening to them, and I can't wait until they come back to play in my city. :)
i remember when i first discovered the internet in about 1994...i remember back then,it was cool just to find a page dedicated to one of my favorite bands,or subjects...and now we have such a great internet, people take it for granted, but in 1994 we had basically nothing,man---imagine that!!
cy curnan...the ultimate showman...guy is awesome! i love the fixx..was just at the july 30 concert in atlantic city new jersey...show was awesome..they played 2 of my favorites...yesterday/today and camphor! ...group continues to amaze..no matter how many times i see them...i love these guys!
This is one of their best tracks. The synthesizer chords are hypnotizing, the singing is subtile yet profound, and the bass line adds the finishing power. Thumbs .. no wait, all ten up!
yes! 1984 was magical, thanks to phantoms, near the end of the year as i recall--and it did not disappoint..i just literally can't get enough of these guys and their songs, since then...that's like 30 years now!
Phenomonal song from a phenomonal band. Cy's stage presence is along the likes of Fish (the Marillion fans will get this one!) Love the textural keyboards of Rupert...Jamie's "Stand or Fall" inspired guitar chimes....overall greatness!
May be something to do with him being a Sagittarius like me we have a birthday one day apart and I get told I'm the same, just saying lol. I met them twice such nice lads!
OMG BEST SONG EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!! I Voted for them on the FIXX website for them to play this live I have the opening show the first night of them playing this song Facing the Wind two cd set by the FIXX website I paid $23.00 dollers for it Orlando FL. Live !!!!!!!!
great comment! audio dynamite --haha--larger than life! yeah i just knew their stuff was classic, even on the first listen,to almost every song...others took a few listens..and i'll never get enough-the songs live and breathe lives of their own!
One of the concerts I wish I go to see was the 1983 tour with The Police and The Fixx and A Flock of Seagulls. Some of my older sisters went and I suppose I could have gone had ponied up the cash and begged to tag along. All three of those great bands were at there apexes. I prolly would have remembered it better than my first sex!
I love this song......but what's up with the guy in the front row of the audience at 1:50....striped shirt.....looks like he's doing an impression of the Wicked Witch of the West melting.....LOL.....and the guy next to him "pulling" on his face??
Who's playing bass, does not look like Dan. He's not leaving those cool 4th measures silent nor the multitude of sweet fills that start at the second verse.
i quoted this song for my high school yearbook quote in the mid '80s
I quoted lyrics from “I Will” from Phantoms in my yearbook! Class of 1987.
Rupert is one of my favorite keyboardist! Texture is so wonderful on this one!
BEAUTIFUL SOUND OF THE FIXX ,,,,, one of greatest bands EVER ,,,,
These guys still got it . Everlasting greatness .❤

amazing song. Phantoms reminds me of fall days in 1984
WTF!!! What a great performance of an 80's classic!!
@gowestward1 Excellent finding on the "chimes..." that sound is so incredibly stark and potent. A trademark, very real, very evocative of the 80s.
My favorite , THANK YOU
KICK ASS! The FIXX is my favorite '80s band without a doubt! Their modern era material is equally as good. Always loved the lyrics!
Superb

New to me- Loved!!
Jamie West-Oram should be in the R&R HOF for his guitar tone and innovative technique
He has a style all his own which fits the Fixx perfectly.
Superb! A truly amazing band

Gary Tibbs is my fave Fixx bassist right after Dan K Brown! Awesome band like no other!

Dr. Quest, it look like the guys in the front row are mid-life trippers!! Jeeez, that's funny! Great and obscure cut off the Phantom's album!!
