There are a lot of these tank engines around. I did not know this one or this railroad existed. I am glad I came across the video another steamer to add to the bucket in the future. The diesel cane out of no where. Nice video.
Was it a D&RGW whistle or from some other big road, builder or parts manufacturer? Good sounding 5 chime (or short bell 6?l, and nice exhaust when she's working hard. At c. 7:35, the whistle sounds like New York Central or maybe Burlington, just my guesses, but at c. 10:46 while the engineer is oiling around (to remedy that squeak in the previous shot?), it doesn't look like a Q whistle with that fat lower section.
@@SmokyMtnSteam The good news is 17 is expected to run again this year or sometime next year from a friend of mine who's good friends with some of the railroad employees, because of Covid-19, it's likely she'll return to service late of this year or early next year, until then, we can only sit and wait till the pandemic slows down

New hope valley #17 is a beautiful tank engine! I loved the whistle and bell.
I was announcer/narrator that day. It was great fun. Sad in a way, but it's only temporary.
It was bittersweet but enjoyable day, I do hope to see the 17 again!
I might have been standing besides you when 17 crossed the crossing in Bonsil at the end.
Maybe when 17 is restored, she should come visit Denton FarmPark for the Threshers Reunion and pull the Handy Dandy Railroad. Compare her to #9
Monster of a whistle for something to small, What whistle was it wearing during this?
That's a Durango and Silverton whistle
It’s a twist between D&S 486 and NKP 624. (587s whistle from 1993)

Didn’t any of the cars belong at one time to the Great Smoky Mountains RR??
I'm sure the day will come when no. 17 steams again.
That’s a monster of a whistle
Beyond the run around at 5:30, how much track is beyond the grade crossing?
Not very much, just enough for a few cars.
About 100 feet.
I like that Dynamo sound effect
Does anyone know the story with the 110 at 0:13 ?
Cliffside 110 is currently being restored to operation.
O.k. Cool! Will it be set to go before or after the 17?
17 is the priority, based on what I was told by some of the NHV crew 110 will not get much work done until 17 is running again.
The 110 is going to need a lot more work than 17. The plan is to start work on it after 17 is finished.
If 17 return to steam again in the future, then she can eventually visit the NC Transportation Museum where I go there every year to volunteer!
im guessing the locomotive will be back in service in 2032
Well I hope it won't be that long, but it will be a while yet.
I believe as of 2022, the engine is still out of service and there being no confirmation on when it'll be back.
They are working on it, rebuilding steam locos takes a long time for a volunteer group.
@@SmokyMtnSteam ik
Maybe 17 can be joined by Jeddo Coal 85 in the future.
17 has run with Flagg Coal 75 before so its not out of the realm of possibility!
Any word of 2023?? Been too long
No recent updates that I'm aware of sadly.
What's the status on 17 as of 2020??????
Last I heard, her 1472 inspection is still ongoing.
@@SmokyMtnSteam thanks hope itil be completed in a year or 2

@@shanewalters2565 Great to hear! I look forward to seeing her again.
Will the 110 run
Eventually, although there are many years of work left before it is finished
Wow
Dude... they replaced the teardrop bell. That sucks.
I don't remember what happened to it, but it got changed about 3 years ago.
