- Here's a simple jam featuring only the Korg NTS-1 synthesizer, using its surprisingly powerful arpeggiator.
My music on Bandcamp: waveformer42.ba...
There's no way to share NTS-1 patches yet, and not easy to read parameters settings, so this is the patch as far as I can remember. Oscillator type Triangle, Sweep rate 0.1. Filter type LP4, Resonance 0%, Rate 9Hz, Depth 50%. Modulator type Flanger, Time 25%. Depth 40%. Reverb type: Submarine, Time max, Depth 60%, Dry: 65%. Tremolo rate 0.2Hz, Tremolo depth 20%. Arpeggiator type d-C, Tempo 69 BPM, Pattern length 19, pattern type varies throughout the jam.
During the jam, I play with filter cutoff, oscillator shape modulation, and switch the arpeggiator between octave, sus4, minor and minor diminished.
The audio is recorded on a Korg KP2S and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on iPhoneX. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 15.

1/4" adapter as a stylus - genius!
Justin Saunders this was just too tiny, even for me.
@Kristian Zander reported both of you for spam
I always wondered when the day would come when we needed a pick to play a keyboard lol
jj rusy haha. Yeah, there’s a guitar player somewhere laughing at me right now 😄.
Your music is absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful brother
Thanks, man 😀.
Aaaaah, so that's how you change the chord type. I really should look these things up and not wait for videos to randomly reveal things. Nice little jam.
This little sub-$100 synth really is amazing. Another RUclipsr, Oscillator Sink, has a nice video showcasing it as well. Great to have so many awesome examples to learn from! Keep up the great work, Waveformer!
RobtheDrummer thank you 😊. Glad you find it useful. Oscillator Sink has lots of brilliant stuff!
I love the jack adaptor stylus. Every time I hear this little synth I am stunned by its quality for under £100
Doc Bolus yeah, it’s great value for money!
Very enjoyable, thanks for the jam!
Thanks for sharing...It is quite a good demo of the abilities of the NTS-1...you have a way of bringing out the sounds in these small budget synths.
Taking advantage of the small knob size to quickly adjust the filter on key notes of the arp is a creative way to play this instrument expressively. Really nice work, and very inspirational. You could also make thimble for playing the ribbon.
New sub! It always amazes me how well-performed electronic music can repeat and reuse so much, yet over > 9 minutes it wasn't once repetitive. Nicely done.
Just built mine tonight and am having an absolute blast with it. Crazy how good this little thing can sound. Awesome jam :)
Very nice, it's so great sound from the little Box, makes more 👍👍👍
Yes, the NTS-1 is a great little synth/effects combo.
The use of this little guy as an effects mod already had me sold. Now I am convinced. Beautiful sound out of a single piece of equipment. Great work as always.
SilentPity Thanks 😊. I like it a lot.
This small machine produces BIG sounds.
Definitely! 😄
I like the bit where it goes bleep bloop
great work, I'm still waiting for mine to arrive since october...
Efímer thanks 😊. Hope you get it soon 🙏🏻.
Wonderful... magic...
Glad you like it. It’s an amazing little box 🎹🎛️🎶
F...ing beautiful and epic! Thanks!
trikOsk 😊
This is very cool! I just got one of these units 3 days ago, so thanks for the inspiration and patch information.
Thanks. Glad you found it useful 😊.
Thanks for sharing. You are pretty amazing getting such wonderful sounds squeezed out of a minimal set up!
Raku777 thank you 😊. It’s a great little synth, and the effects are brilliant. I’m looking forward to trying 3rd party oscillators and effects too.
Me compre uno despues de ver tu video. Excelente!!!
Cool! It’s a great little synth, and very good value for the low price 😊.
Outstanding 👏
Nice. I'm finding that jams like this, with Tri or the as-initialised Waves, combined with arp and either riser or submarine, really ... mesmerising.
bigbeatnut yeah, the NTS-1 is capable of some really nice sounds more or less right out of the box without much tweaking. Great effects!
Great sound you're getting out of this little one!
I'd love it if they add an option to send chords to the arpeggiator in a future upgrade.
It's a bit limited being able to only use single notes.
The NTS-1 only has one voice. I've seen paraphonic add-on "oscillators" for the NTS-1, but so far as I know, this one won't ever have full polyphony. You'll need a minilogue XD or a prologue for that. They have 4-16 voices, depending on the model.
@@McTroyd I mean for the arpeggiator. So that you can run over a sequence of notes instead of just the one key. Not poly/paraphony.
You can probably simulate some minimal paraphony in the dsp, but you need poly-note midi first for either of these suggested extensions. Also things like glide and note priority.
@@_DRMR_ Aahhh OK. Apologies for the misunderstanding. It might be possible now, over MIDI -- I haven't looked at the chart yet.
@@McTroyd Oh! I just found this. have to play with it some time:

Mine comes tomorrow
cool as mate
Jason and the robots thanks 😊
what kind of a monster would dislike this
Love it!
Tommy Johnson Thank you 😀
thank you
Henning Sprang you’re welcome 😊.
better than a lot of the videos where the dudes have 10k of gear playing lol.
this thing seems like a steal considering its effects engine
Yeah. I can wholeheartedly recommend it 😁.
Good idea for stylus .
Haha, thanks 😊
Space harp indeed.
Yeah, it’s a very cool little synth 😎
This reminded me a lot of se very old and very beautiful JMJ recordings. The reverb is astounding and the chord progressions you used are cery well chosen. It sounds like an NTS-1 would be a great addition to my set-up. How well foes it play with others? Does it send MIDI, or only receive? Can the arpeggiator be controlled externally?
It doesn’t send MIDI, but it receives MIDI, and you can control the arpeggiator by sending notes from an external MIDI keyboard.
@@Waveformer That's cool, thanks for taking the time to answer. I have a Crave that sometes I use for arpeggios but I'd like to keep it free for bass or lead duties, maybe I could cstch an NTS-1 for that purpose.
Very nice, is the reverb from the NTS-1?
Yes, all effects are from the NTS-1, and I record directly from its stereo output.
You have 5 types of reverb and all of them are amazing. It's an great sound processor also so U can modulate incoming signals.
No way should a jam that good be able to come out of something that cheap and that small...
The Drümünkey thanks 😊. I’m really positively surprised by the little fellow. Especially the reverbs. Beautiful!
