@@reyd286 Idealized? In the 1960s-70s Hastings was a busy and safe shopping street full of families with kids (and even more so in the 1930s, 40s, 50s) -- and what is it now? Just one example. Not to mention housing affordability before Expo'86 etc. The city had its share of problems, but it was a working blue-collar city, an affordable place to raise a family. Nothing like it is today with druggies on psychosis running around stabbing innocent people. Definitely *not* a world-class city as touted by our politicians. Zurich, Vienna, Prague, even Barcelona -- yes. Not Vancouver.
