I agree with your feelings, i also want a lot of books to be published in variety of genres in our country , some of them maybe even in our native languages; recently i have started reading ponniyin Selvam series, i know it's old, not contemporary but frankly am enjoying it a lot. I think it's written in very beautiful, witty and just like how a contemporary historical fiction writer would write in modern time. Definitely give it a try, just remember that because the native language is of Tamil, not all translations are tha good, i would recommend the one am reading, the English translation by c v Karthik Narayan. It's really underrated and i think judging from your taste you would find the humour, philosophy, characters, politics etc interesting.

For me, the biggest gripe I have with Indian books is that, there are hardly any well done fantasy series. Yea there are some Mythological fantasy fiction series but alone so far where I was fully immersed in them and thought about it long after I was done with them. There are some good ones ofc like Pataala Prophecy (incomplete series), Gameworld series, tantrics of old series.
But I still truly crave for a well researched and well written book with Amazing world building. Alas, not many fiction readers in India I suppose for authors.
