    Bought my 30D brand new in 2006. Used it from wedding photography to landscape to studio. Still sitting in my bag next to me. 8mp or not, to this day, I have yet to see a camera that produces the gorgeous colors, contrast and sharpness that this camera does. Hope it lasts me many more years because I wouldn't trade it for anything out there yet.
    Thanks for the video :)

    • @Mamotreco

      It’s a great camera for sure. Enough resolution for my purposes. If I’m not mistaken the 30D was the last or one the last Canon XXD DSLRs to be made out of magnesium alloy which feels sturdy. Later ones switched to plastics I think. I had a later Canon 700D and the 30D viewfinder wipes the floor with the newer 700D everyday of the week, such a pleasure to use and compose through it. Thank you for the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video

      Excuse me sir, i truly hope you see this. I'm on an extremely tight budget but really want to get a DSLR over my old bridge camera, would the 30D work well for sports?

    • @petezzzz
      @petezzzz 5 дней назад +1

      Hello. Yes the 30D is great for sports. The AF is fast and the 5fps is more than enough. Unless you are doing F1 races. I usually take mine out of the bag at least twice a year to work it a bit but unfortunately this time I was greated by the dreaded Err99 "Turn Off, Remove Battery and Try Again" error after two shots. I asked around for repairs and they all said parts are no longer available and to look for a donor body. They also told me these cameras are "designed" to last around only 10 years. Which is pretty much spot on. One repairman also said stay away from 7DMkII. They last only about 4 years. 😔 My lenses are OK so I might look for a newer model.

    The only Canon camera I ever used was the 5D MkII, loved the ergonomics and the colors. I am bored of people saying DSLRs are dead, it is nice to get new gear with new features but if you took bad photos with the old camera, the new camera isn't going to make you a better photographer. Very nice video.

      So true. At the end of the day, cameras weren’t born yesterday. If you can’t get by with a modest camera, then a more expensive camera won’t change things. Having said that moving from a dark and tiny OVF on the 700D/T5i to a serviceable EVF with mirrorless quality of life improvements on the XE2 really boosted my confidence and desire to get out there and opened my eyes to manual lenses. But a decent OVF on a DSLR body is a joy to use too

    Many thanks for the sharing, I'm also still using mine in 2021. Agree with someone above, just can't beat the colour output from it. I also love its simplicity and reliability, the early Canon DSLRs were really built like a work horse. Only complain will be no Auto Iso, but hey, its a 2006 machine...

    • @Mamotreco
      @Mamotreco  3 года назад

      You are welcome. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. With the 30D, the fact that bumping up the ISO brings the noise quickly means that I prefer to set my ISO out the camera in Aperture priority and then control with the exposure +/- and then trust that everything will be fine 😅

    I bought the Canon50d back in 2008 ,I remember costing me a fortune, I still own it & use it daily, I like it so much I had a New shutter assembly fitted to it, my 50d is going nowhere, I looked at the modern 500d, to plasticky for me , but that's a personal choice, the 30d looks a nice balanced camera, I have been looking on E-Bay at one & tempted, really good video.

      I have a 30d and a 40d. Not really any difference in image between the two. The advantages for me are 40d has ability to remove dust by shaking the sensor. I also like seeing iso in the viewfinder in 40d.

    I just bought a 30d for 35€ and I am also havng a lot of fun with it. Somehow the simplistic functionality, the sturdyness of the body and the dials and foremost the nice color rendering make it very useful for my needs as an amateur hobbyist photographer. Nowadays we are lucky to have so much cheap but absolutely high quality gear from the old days from the beginning of the digital area. I also have some fantastic Fuji gear which is nice for light traveling, but for everyday shooting I prefer the Canon 5d classic or the 30d.

    Nice tribute to the 30D. I still love my 70D but also use a 90D for wildlife/action and my EOS-R for most other things. But the 70D is still a great camera with a bright viewfinder and well built. My favorite 70D lens is the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 XR DI (non-VC) which is very sharp. My 70D is actually a better backup to my EOS-R than my 90D as it is more forgiving since it does not have the much higher resolution requiring faster shutter.

And personally i like to work with gear, that does have it's limitations, to get the most out of it - it's fun. /edit as standard zoom, the 18-55/F4-5.6 STM is the best, together with the 10-18 STM, and 55-250 STM. All lenses feature IS, so image stabilizer.

    I love my Canon 30d. I had one back when they were relatively new but over the years have bought more modern ending up using a compact Panasonic for holidays. Earlier in the year I decided to learn to use my DSLR properly and although I have a tiny wee Canon 100d I bought a Canon 30d for £40. I love the simplicity of it, the ability to adjust the settings using the two scroll wheels. I pick up my 100d and get quickly frustrated as I can't remember how to change something on the more complex menu. I then bought a 40d for £60, I prefer the larger LCD on the back but mostly the anti-dust function which shakes the mirror. I often change lenses and although careful I get dust on the sensor.
    I am really improving on my skills and now shoot manually rather than fully auto. I am very tempted by a Canon 5d classic or a Fujifilm XT-2. Not sure which I should go for. Our do I just stick with the 30d and 40d?

    Great review! I miss having this camera. It has that unique film-like look that new cameras don’t have. It’s very similar to the 5D classic. I use the Fuji X-T4 for pro work but this is a great everyday shooter.

      Thank you so much! You are totally right. It does provide a refreshing contrast to the XT4 in terms of shooting experience. It’s funny because in many ways I was put off photography with the 700D/Rebel T5i. I then started enjoying it again with a second hand Fuji XE2 which I sold alongside the 700D to get the XT4 which is now my main camera. I then got the 30D from a family member who wasn’t using it and it’s a great combo. Now I have two cameras that I enjoy for different reasons
