I grew up in Boston, MISSION HILL to be exact. It was a 90% Irish American neighborhood and from the ages 10 years old until I graduated from High School in 1983, I remember hearing the stories about South Boston. If you were not Irish, you did not go to “Southie” as it was called. I remember Bussing in 1979 and lots of racial tension in Boston. Being of “Mixed Race”(Cape Verdian and Sicilian and African American) I got to experience racism from different points of view. One thing is for sure, those Irish Guys on Mission Hill were Tough and that made me Tough dealing with them. Although I have some bad memories of growing up in Boston, I also have some good memories. I still have family in Boston and occasionally I go back to visit. I hear it’s changed, but, I’ll always remember 148 HILLSIDE STREET and I’ll never forget how tough those Irish Boys were. Sometimes I wish I would have been able to make a few friends, but, I’ve never wanted to be where I wasn’t welcome. Thanks for sharing. Be well.
Southie nowadays is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Boston. Every home there is well over a million dollars. I work there on N street everyday. Lot of young ppl. Crazy how much it changed.
One of the most fascinating stories in history of organized crime in U.S. history. Black Mass is a good book, and the Bulger book by Kevin Weeks was surprisingly really good too. Don’t read any books by Howie Carr...he has some sort of strange hatred of the Bulgers that clouds his view.
If you really think about it.... Whitey probably had the most epic life in American modern history. From beginning to end. He did it all. I think he went out at 89 the way he was destined to. I also think he knew that as he was dying. He studied history and warfare and he knew epic Greek tragedy.

Ahh the good ol'bean. Love the place. Growing up in Portland often called little Boston, an hour and a half to 2hrs from the bean. Had a lot of guys come up here to chill out while the heat simmered down from out there. Grew up on Munjoy hill here (little Italy at the time). It's changed in years but the roots are still the same. The old timers that held the neighborhoods together have starting passing on in the last 15 years. It's becoming a haven for liberal art college kids and Somali refugees, ya no thanks.. These kids would pee their fuckin pants if they knew what used to happen back in the days. The cops didnt give a shit about anything.
But the FBI got away with a lot of evil. They tipped off Bulger and Flemmi about informants who were then murdered. They also told them about the imminent indictments before Bulger fled.

You should write a book "black Boston" or "the black Bostonian"

Johnny Deep really did look like Whitley in the movie black mass.
the resemblance ends there.
I remember when the movie came out he caught a lot of flack that he didn’t, one of my favorite Irish gangster flicks tho.
It wasn’t a bad movie.
I thought Johnny Depp did a damn good job I thought the movie was pretty good too

I'm guessing it's because they (Winter Hill) tried to kill them 🤔
POS Howie Carr has made a living writing and talking about the Bulger family derogatorily. That POS owes the Bulger family a lot of money.

The Boston Irish Gangster.
Jack Nicholson character in the movie the departed was base off this guy.
Yeah, that character was loosely based on Whitey Bulger. It was a remix of a Hong Kong film.
I will never NOT watch The Departed.
WRONG. It was based on an Asian film. Jimmy Bulger didn’t drink and smoke either, so Nicholson definitely wasn’t emulating Bulger.
