If it is prepared the right way, a dormant peace can last up to 3 months. Place it in the area where you place your vegetables. Once the wood starts to push out, then is time to graft. Use teflon tape - is a great sealer of air, then on top of it use electrical tape which is elastic and will expand with the wood, then is easy to peel off or the sun will eventually cook it and fall off if you forget to do so after 4 months or so. February is the time to graft in Southern California.
@llcyll Allow me to answer this. "Yes" you can graft an Apple scion to a pear tree and the opposite. Any kind of apple can be graft to any kind of pear. This is the perfect time to do so in the South California Area. You must find a dormant scion to graft into an active pear. At this time of the year, it is easier to graft a pear into an apple because most apples are waking up from dormacy and Pears are still dormant. You can use teflon tape to seal all air and electrical tape to prevent sunburn
they decapitate in big orchards but for backyard growers like us they recommend frame working your tree. several videos on this like grafting lesson tools. good luck to you
we just grafted some golden delicous apples over to granny smith and are now busy grafting cherry trees, we also stored out graft wood in the coolroom here till it was time to graft, i have never heard of the "mother limb" theory before though, sounds interesting
I haven't seen that extra cut used before. Is it used for extra stability for mounting or make it mount better? (The cut that goes back down towards the roots on the stump and towards the buds on the scion.)
I have seen this video again and again and admire the skills of grafting he has. No doubt it is one of the best grafting video I have seen. Will you put some more videos showing different methods of grafting, please.
Sir, a great expertise and highly applauded. Keep it up. God bless you. Kindly do post more and more grafting techniques with precision. Sir, if you have any expertise on the cultivation of apples in subtropical condtions experiencing summer max. temp. going uptp 37 degrees Celcius, spur and standard varieties suitable including pollinizers, rootstocks and the distance etc. May. max. temp. 37 degrees celcius in the second fortnight of May and early June till some premonsoon showers.
Hi Mike, thanks for putting this video together. You guys have really good workers on staff. I'll look for your products at my local WholeFoods, or is there another store you guys deal with? I am here in the Bay, so I figured some of your fruit will get to this area.
Great video! I'm wondering about the first graft... What was the cambium contact percentage to make this work? As I understand grafting, we want maximum cambium match to enable the best connection between the tree and the grafted branch. Thanks!
I agree. The producers have taken the time to photograph the close-up details very carefully so that you can really see how the grafts are done. So many of these other videos are useless because of the poor quality photography.
Another reason is to prevent the bark from cracking in the spring. During the winter, the outside bark can freeze, and then when hit by the sun they warm up and expand. The constant warming (expanding) and freezing (contracting) can cause the bark to crack, making an open wound that infection or insects can enter through. By painting the bark white, it reflects more sunlight and reduces heating to help keep the tree safe.
I have a question for you.............I want to know what is the differences between seedling and grafting........ I felt like that they are the same and nothing different. I don't fell like grafting will make any difference compare to seedling...............so why do we have to graft plants....... I hope that you receive my message and can give me some advices
AWESOME! Very cool of Juan to do this for you. Good guy.

Awesome video man. Thanks for taking the time to make and post. Juan is a champ!
Astonishing grafting.. Have seen first time.. Especially a type of "lock & key" making on Scion and root stock for auto fit of Scion on root stock.
this is the best video on grafting I seen so far.
Whoa. Juan is a grafting ubermensch. That was a totally sweet whip and tongue near the end.
You can tell he has skills. Years of experience shows and I know this will grow off just fine.
Even to my inexperienced eye I can tell this is a master at work.

Juan is the man! I'm going to do this on my avocado tree. Thanks locos.

Good video my friend
Thank you for such an informative video. Is there a specific sealer I should look for to do grafting? Thanks.
Juan is a master 🍷
Hi Michael and Juan,
Do you cover the scion and the grafting union with anything? Don't you think that the scion might dry out!

Thank you Juan and Michael!
Great video! I'm going to try to graft two apple tree next spring. I want them to pollonate each other while only planting one tree.
Did it work??
It will only work if they flower at the same time to cross pollinate each other - unless there are other pollinators in the vicinity.
@@mipueblo7042 I ended up buying one from Stark brothers. It died after one season. never got any fruit.
@@JasonSKeener cheers :)
Grafting es mi pasion
Good afternoon, what kind of putty do you have in the jar? thanks for the answer !
thats correct we do the same with our grafted cherry trees to protect the trunks from sunburn, otherwise the bark on the trees dies off due to sunburn
What a pro, thanks Juan!
Great video! I'm wondering about the first graft... What was the cambium contact percentage to make this work? As I understand grafting, we want maximum cambium match to enable the best connection between the tree and the grafted branch. Thanks!
So where do I go to hire Juan? Great Video.......Thanks.
Thanks from Saudi Arabia
The tape its called Parafilm and you can buy it easily from ebay..

Прививки таким ножичком надо делать в железных рукавицах.

im still learning that "whip and tongue" grafting technique, havent cut myself yet lol
How to make Grafting sealent which you are using
I agree. The producers have taken the time to photograph the close-up details very carefully so that you can really see how the grafts are done. So many of these other videos are useless because of the poor quality photography.
can this way be used for olive trees ?
It is nice job. But it is not clear for me the difference between bark grafting and that of side grafting
Thanks Juan!
Can you use breathable medical micropore tape instead of masking tape or does it have to be waterproof tape ?
Good job!
Juan Rocks!

Thank u teacher.

No, that was not a typo...that was how he pronounced it.
So I heard him say to graft only in march, but will the graft still take in may?

He didn't do the most important part. Labeling the graft so you know what you have added to the rootstock!
my teacher uses elmer glue instead of a sealer
all those trees behind look weird
Cheap masking tape. you need to get 3M tape
They will go away after trumpisation! Sad!
