  • In preparation for the upcoming Alabama Triple Crown, Irishdaisy and I decided to do a weekend training hike on a loop around the Duck River which ended badly.

Love that scenery around the water.
    What is the bell for?
I don’t think I could handle the ATC. Too many miles for me.

The area is really pretty. I think the bell was just a local creative person's way of adding interest to the trail. There was a second one several miles later. This trail looks to be a favorite for runners and mountain bikers.
The ATC is going to be hard but I'm going to give it a try, hopefully. It may end up being too many miles for me as well.

There's some odd stuff out there! 😆 I like the fire hydrant bell. I hope your knee is okay. Praying for you, girl. 💚👊

Thank you! Yeah, those bells are super neat and very loud. As soon as I get this knee back to normal I'm going back. I have to see what else is interesting on the other side of the trail!

Well, that's too bad about your knee! Thankfully, there are good people out there to help😁
I hope you heal up quickly😊

I never knew that this trail existed until last fall when we held one of our FFA Land Judging contests there. We live about 2 hours NE of there. I didn't get to hike any that day, as I was working, but I'd love to go back with more time.
One of my many biology teachers in college was a "mushroomer" and he had a saying that he always told us; "There are OLD mushroomers and there are BOLD mushroomers, but there are no OLD, BOLD mushroomers!" SMH
Have you seen my ATC fail video, "The Alabama Triple Crown, I Didn't"? The title was in response to Squidly's "I Survived the Alabama Triple Crown." It turns out that you need to be very careful what you eat the evening before you begin... We all met up at a restaurant that shall not be named, and Debbie & I ordered the same thing...the food poisoning hit Debbie at about mile 2, the next morning and hit me at about mile 9. Her bout with lasted longer than mine, but mine seemed to be much more intense. I ended up losing over 9 pounds in less than 20 hours! It was MISERABLE!!
Take care of that knee! Hope it gets better soon!

I enjoyed this trail. Not a whole lot of elevation changes but very pretty.
Yes, I did see that video. I'm planning to stay away from that restaurant. I honestly don't eat there anyway.
I'm hoping to get this issue resolved before the hike but a week out and I still am having issues. 🙄 We will see.

I hate it about your knee. I've been having some pretty bad knee pain myself. I'd stay off it for a few days, then try it again. If not for my knee issue, I probably would have done the ATC again. Good luck!

It’s not a fail because you learned something about what direction you go from here. Heal and keep training. Glad you got rescued. FYI, I did some PT for my knees before the Triple Crown last year. 🦑

Yeah, I'm learning that age is catching up to me fast. It's disappointing and frustrating. I generally don't go down without a fight but I'm so tired of fighting. I did see my chiropractor yesterday and she gave me some good advice. Hopefully I can bounce back and actually complete the challenge.

Hope your knee feels better. That isnt something you want to deal with on the trail.
