    Quite excellent video.
“You’re locked in here with me”. Absolutely brilliant. Henry’s success in the revolt was legendary. The coalition’s fatal mistake is that they failed to understand that they were dealing with one of the shrewdest, skillful, and adroit monarchs in history. Yet, frankly, how could they? In the end, can you really fault them for going toe-to-toe with one of the greatest of all time… and losing? Yes, of course we can, but not without some of the sympathy which follies such as this often engender, I grant. That Henry’s subordinates were each able powerhouses themselves is testament to the enduring bureaucracy he had fashioned which would survive him, evolve and adapt, arguably lasting in its core embryo for centuries into the modern world. Unfortunately, John will turn the dial up as high as possible and use that bureaucracy for ill.

Cheers. Henry's achievements I find, get overshadowed by the murder of Thomas Becket, although it was fun shouting the quote.

@@Embracehistoria Alas, far too often because of Becket’s dramatization. He surrounded himself with propagandists and hagiographers, and he actively courted martyrdom. His subsequent biographers have never broken that particular mould. Also, people tend not to understand what his position effectively meant, especially in light of its modern repercussions-not for nothing did David Starkey once call him the “patron saint of child molesters.” In any case, every medievalist worth their salt and common law nerds understand Henry’s legacy as one of the most impactful in history.

I've never been able to square the real John with that fox in the Disney cartoon movie Robin Hood. Like I just can't.

Great video thanks. I really want to sympathise with this young John but as I know his future I find I stop myself pretty quickly 😂
It's such a fascinating period of time, I am writing a story about a family who opposed John, which includes the man who captured William the Lion. Can't wait.
    Cheers
