Others have commented about his injury before this performance. Additionally, Yuzu has asthma, so he was tired after that intense start. Yuzu said in an interview that the fall actually helped him to have a breather to be able to do the jumps that followed. The scream before the choreographic sequence is Yuzu catching his breath and going with everything to get that bronze medal. This performance gives me chills, so young, so determined, so intense, and so talented

@@coffeereaction he has trained very hard to increase his stamina. Who would believe that the boy that was out of breath after a 4.5 min program would now be able to hold solo ice shows of 1.5 hr ('Prologue') and 2.5 hr ('GIFT'). He doesn't skate continuously, but he only has short transitions between the programs. Incredible! He is such an inspiration to push ourselves to improve.

I love how you can feel and notice the beauty of the combination between the music and YUZURU figure skating, all the points you mentioned were the same moments I liked in this performance, This performance will never die, I can't get enough watching YUZURU in this and other performance time and time again !

It was right after the Great Earthquake 3.11.2011. His home rink was badly damaged, thus he attended over 60 ice shows during that off-season summer to do fund-raising for the affected areas and train this new program using the ice shows' rinks in the spare time. This program was made on ice shows' rinks (usually not as good condition as permanent rinks) in the dark with almost no light. His emotions were so raw and naked. One of Yuzu's best programs till now since a very young age

Ye he sprained his ankle the day before the FS during practice but didn't say it to anyone, in all his career Hanyu was fully healthy in pretty few times like in the WC2017 .
That fall was a little mistake during some transitions step, he said in his autobiography that could rest a little during that fall .
As for us now that fall adds more dramatic pathos to the performance, Hanyu there is a very dramatic and desperate Romeo! Epic programme!!!

Thank you for your reaction as always. There are several behind stories. First of all, that fall down was an accident and his ankle had been injured even before the competition. About a year ago, he experienced Great East Japan Earthquake and he had to practiced his programs at several ice rinks cuz his home rink had broken. Until this competition he couldn't land the last jump successfully and he really wanted to make it. His short program wasn't good enough so he was far behind the podium but this free program made him to bronze medalist at his age of 17.

That part he really fell but Fanyus joke about it that it is a part of a choreography because even when he fell he still fell so beautifully.😊

The unbelievable thing is he falls down even on beats! Yes, His right ankle was injured at that time. He was diagnosed with avulsion fracture with his right ankle and he was injected with strong pain killers to compete.. All the world championships throughout his career, he was basically compete with injuries. Sigh....2012 right ankles. 2013 both left and right ankles. 2014 back pain. 2015 abdominal surgery recovery and sprain ankle. 2016 left foot ligament. 2017 asthma attack before competition. 2018 withdraw due to right ankle injury. 2019 right foot ligament injuries. 2020 canceled due to Covid19 pandemics. 2021 asthma attack before free skating. 2022 withdraw due to right ankle injuries. However, he still won 7 medals! Unbelievable.

My rough memory on his own words about this fall is his right leg was injured so he put much of his weight on the left to the extent that the left leg couldn't take it when he's doing the step sequence. So he tripped on his left leg although it was the right one that was injured.
The injury was not made known to everyone at that point of time. So everyone was surprised that he tripped there. But some of the Japanese photographers who were closed to Yuzuru and knew about his injury were in disbelief when Yuzuru pulled out a performance like that. While the audience was applauding and cheering, the photographers had tears on their faces as they couldn't believe how a young and seemingly fragile skater could have such strong will.

This brilliant program was choreographed by Yuzu's coach at that time Naname Abe, and if you watch it attentively, it tells the entire story of Romeo and Juliet. When Yuzu paused at the end of the rink, raised his fist and yelled, he had just entered the market to find the Montagues and the Capulets in a huge battle, In the biggest mistake of his young life, Romeo draws his sword and joins in. You can see Yuzu swinging the sword at this point. Romeo accidently kills Juliet favorite cousin, thereby insuring that R & J will both die. Yuzu's last move in the piece is to stab himself in the abdomen. A tragic ending for Romeo, but not for Yuzuru. This performance moved him up from 7th place to 3rd. On the podium to receive his brass medal, he couldn't stand still due to excitement. He was only 16 and adorable.
