I think the stalks came first, considering the Academic says that the child is born from a "corpulent half-eaten mother". Emphasis on the "half-eaten". It means they were gorging already. Also you could argue that they stay at The Foetor, because nothing else smells like something edible. The Sprawl smells like burning wood and paper, The Tangle smells like rusty metal, mud and leaves and The Shroud smells like saltwater and moldy planks. And the Sluice......is propably a cacophony of different odors.....
All valid statements. I have to wonder if they occurred around the same time. They began to cannibalize each other but when there wasn't any mention of if the stalks were there or not. It all must have happened in a span of few hours. As for the smell, yeah but the other areas don't bode well in terms of food to eat. Maybe Shroud for the Sea food. Alternatively, they could eat the people since they have no issue with that, but if the Stalks are the most appealing, let it ride.
Perhaps it’s like an anti-Christ. The feasting, eventually cannibalising, became twisted into a force of nature. The Harvest Child might be the force of nature, it just needed to be made flesh, or born.
I always thought the stalks came first, a bi-product of cosmic taint unleashed upon the world, with the farmers becoming gentry as a result of feasting on the stalks. Regardless, if going hungry for the night is preferable to ending up like the gentry, at least you're still able to make that choice.
This area has always intrigued me, the enemy designs and the areas lore and the mystery surrounding the meat stalks. It makes it probably my third favorite area, with the sprawl being my first favorite are followed by the coast. Either way love the vid and I as always can’t wait to se what comes next (also super sorry for the wall of text)
what a delight! a second course of videos to consume! and its over so quickly! i could eat some of the old videos again.....but my hunger will never end. I WANT MORE! incredible video. my theory is when the thing that started it all happened, it also caused a special sismic activity, thus creating some of the things we see. but thats just my idea. now, if you excuse me, the check is on its way, and i need to finish my meal -takes a chunk of Chuck-
You seem to be the best Darkest Dungeon lore guy, getting tons of details and connecting dots in a satisfactory way. I hope it would not be too much to ask for a possible Darkest Dungeon Timeline, including both events from DD1 and DD2. Regardless of your choice, keep being great!
I mean, you could argue that the meat is somehow able to target front and backline with their smells specifically, plus the meat moves when excreting their smell. And meat itself coming to life is nothing new in Darkest Dungeon......
the fact that these monster still act all Normal (except the... Extra large mouth) made them a little extra Disgusting to look at. Kinda sad to not see The Fresh in DD2, with this Graphic it will be very horrify to behold.
My theory is that the stalks are from the thing deep within the Earth. Now that the end times have begun, the thing's corporeal form is starting to rise to the surface. It could be that, somehow, the thing contaminated the food the farmers ate, and that's how they became infected.
The world building of this series has been awesome! Please keep the lore videos coming, I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I cannot stand the inherent unfairness of the combat, but I love the story, characters, setting, etc., so I'm relying on your story telling prowess to unveil everything!
It is implied, but not stated. All the Runaway trinkets have disadvantages against Gaunt enemies, implying that Bonnie is reluctant to fight them. Though it could also be, that the Gaunts remind her too much of her lost family and so she struggles to fight them.
The fattened caterpillar still hungry.
I like how they look like Biblically Accurate Gluttony Demons
Dante’s Inferno
Kinda reminds me of Abaddon from the Megami Tensei/Persona franchise.
I feel like this game is based on biblical sin of despair and the fire is the hope and redamation of a human soul.

@@MiskatonicMemorialist You could argue that the Sluice has plenty of meat.^^ Though it is really fierce meat.^^
@@MiskatonicMemorialistWe need the Sluice lore

Darkest dungeon 2 presents... Foodland! Now featuring British teeth!

Great video as always, and just only 6 days from the last one
A tool from a more civilized time.

The familiar in the foreign. The uncanny valley in practice.

Imma have to Google that name
I'm still not convinced that's the right pronunciation.
In my experience temping aroma isn’t that bad, it’s mouthwatering aroma that you need to watch out for
The Harvest Child is weird, all the other regional bosses are faction leaders but they're just a big baby.
Well, it is basically the Foetors darling, the child everyone in the Foetor loves. It leads by heart instead of mind.
Can you do lore videos about darkest dungeon 1 mod called black reliquary
Is there any relations between the woodsman and the runaways? The girl who has fire?
