  • Religions often have a variety of differing beliefs, but one thing most have in common is the concept of hell. But today we aren’t just exploring what hell means to Buddhism, but the detailed layout of it. 18 levels and beyond.

Is that the Buddhist version? I think Theravada dictates 7 Heavens and numerous levels of hell even!, haha

I did the math and if you're stuck in the bottom of Hell there, you're not getting out for another two and a half BILLION years. XD

Well, that was fascinating. I have learned a lot about Western religion and underworlds and now I'm working on learning more about Eastern religions. This is all super fascinating stuff. The Jainist Naraka and Buddhist Naraka are both interesting

In the Buddhist faith, a soul ‘s time in hell is, technically, not permanent. A person’s soul goes to hell in order to atone for their bad karma. Depending on the sin and its severity determines the hell level you’re sent to and the amount of time needed to ensure your bad karma is purged.
Which could last anywhere from thousands of years to a billion.

So much for Buddhism being a gentle religion. And I don't think the punishment for NOT being a believer in Buddhism is warranted either, any more than a punishment for not being Christian or Muslim. At that rate nobody will ever go anywhere other than one form or another of hell.

It depends on how you define belief. There are Christians who say they believe in God but commit adultery, there are people who say they don't believe in God and remain faithful in marriage. Stricly speaking, you act on what you believe. A person who acts on the values has more of a belief than a religious follower who violates every rule in action.

I hope more people in China will come to Christ that they may experience his glorious love and absolute forgiveness. He has paid for the sins of all who will believe upon him and call upon the name of Jesus Christ. His love is tremendous for those who have true sorrow for the sins they have committed.
