Sorting is one of the fun parts but yes takes time especially with used and finding gems in used stuff is always a fun moment. Nice video Sadler_bricks
I love the sorting process! I keep telling my husband, if I could just sort parts and hire someone to pull the orders, I would be very happy! Maybe someday I will make enough from the business to have someone to do that. :-)
Yes, washing and sorting (throwing non-Lego parts away) are two more points that make selling used parts stressfull. And I want to add, that identifying the variation of a part is also a lot time consuming work.
We tend to only put in a description if it's heavy wear (which we call "good for play"). Since we sell used, we would hope that the buyer understand there will be some minor wear. (notice I said we "hope" they would understand LOL)
The judgement call of whether or not to include a piece for sale due to condition is one of the biggest struggles for me. Someone, perhaps even you, mentioned having or not having a shine on the side of the piece being a huge aspect of what is or is not considered sellable. I have used that to a large degree, and I am finding I am rejecting many more parts. Of course, it is possible that I happen to have gone through a particularly bad batch of parts as well! It is something that I will likely continue to wrestle with for a long time. Easily I think that is likely the biggest issue. Aside from perhaps having Too Much, but I realize not everyone has that problem. Thanks for another insightful video!
Nice Video. I am doing the same business with used Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Cards. Definetly would name the same 3 points. But I love doing business with used stuff? Why buying everything new? There is so much stuff on this planet which can still be reused! Greetings from Germany :)
Thank you for your video! By selling both new and used, the space/storage requirements would almost double, too. That's a challenge for a new store. Was this part of your consideration to sell only used parts?
The main reason I stick with used parts is because of the name of my store... and how difficult it is for me to find new sets at clearance prices. We are limited on space, so we only sell a limited amount of new parts, so I guess in a way that was part of the consideration. :-)
im working on my used lego as we speak , and it really does take a LOT of time doing and putting into bricklink but I have been surprise at some stuff. I had a 1x1 modified brick and one color was $2.15 and an other color was like 0.10c I was like umm REALLY wow lol but I look at my lego and if I have to question if I should put it In my store for to long , I put it aside. but I also have some stuff with little dings on it , and if they are worth a bit then I put them in a bag and will maybe take pics of them and lower the price a bit . but all in all I love lego and this is fun to me :)
I love finding those unique parts that end up being more than I think they are! I also like looking at what sets that part came from, because it's usually a fun or interesting set that I may not have know about before.
Really the biggest issues I come across when sorting and selling Used, is that it’s not worth the time in revenue. Maybe I’m just slow and need to get faster, but I just find myself all too often spending hours adding parts to a brickstore sheet, and then the total value of those parts comes out to only like $20. I’m still figuring it out, but anyone’s advice/experience would be greatly appreciated!
Selling used parts is very time consuming. I know that the time I spend sorting and getting parts into inventory is not cost effective, but for me, the sorting and such is my stress-relief. I find it very relaxing and enjoy watching movies or Brinklink RUclips creators (okay, and true crime creators) while I sort. There are probably much, much faster ways to sort and upload than the way I do it, but this works me. Maybe once I retire and start running the store full time I will look into those options, but for now, the store is the way I spend my downtime and I try to just enjoy my time.
Hey I'm a new bricklink seller that is currently only selling used parts and I was wondering how other sellers seperate their "excellent" parts from their "good" and "poor". Currently we are using organizers for the bulk pieces but I couldn't imagine having to double or even triple our storage systems for the "new, good, and poor condition," so I was just wondering if anyone had any ways to separate their pieces by condition effectively that requires minimal space
For me, I don't have variations on the used parts. I try to just sell the great to excellent condition used parts. For older, rare parts I will sell them if they are in okay condition, but will put that in the comments. Since there are so few of those types of parts, I generally will put in in a bag or empty slot so they are not with the better quality parts.
You do need to open a store in order to sell on Bricklink, and there is now a process you need to go through to do that. If you are rarely selling, you may want to look at online classifieds or eBay.

so insightful and helpful! I really appreciate you!
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video!
In my description for used parts, I put.... minor wear, or ...heavy wear. That's it.

I think over time, you naturally become more and more picky about what you want in your store (or to user for your own creation).
Great series of videos and well explained too.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video!
I had it happen once where I sold a set of tools on a sprue that I never had in inventory. Also variations are something to watch out for on used.

Where do you buy those drawer organizers to your right?
Washing them and getting rid of Fego (fake Lego lol) before even getting into the sorting is my biggest negative about used parts.
The problem I face is "what part is this" :) sometimes its not easy to find out what the part is.
They all have a part number but you can use google lens on your phone as well
Agreed!

Wow 1 year later and that $36 part is a $75 part!
Crazy how some parts double and triple in price in just a matter of months!
Do i need a business to sell on bricklink, i will be selling rarely some sets.
