Honestly, Robbie was such an amazing addition to the CR Family. He is so creative and funny, but also capable of pathos and sadness. After the first and second Sessions of Candela Obscura, I’d love to see Robbie and Brennan at the same table.
@17:30 Candela Obscura as a system is not explicitly written in a “cinematic GM only” style, but because the focus of the mechanics is on investigation, decryption, and navigation through a supernatural horror setting, it’s quite a bit easier to describe it cinematically. It’s like how for example, D&D is more “sweeping narratives and linguistic storytelling” and White Wolf/World of Darkness is more “social networking and creative nonfiction”. EDIT: also, in an interview, Spenser Starke (one of the lead writers) says he prefers to GM his games in a more cinematic style overall, so it’s possible he used that mindset more naturally as he wrote the rule book. If you watch CO Chapter Two - Circle of Needle and Thread, Spenser is the GM, so you see that in full force.
There is nothing more masculine than a man that does not care what other people think about them. The fact that you cry on camera doesn't make you less of a man, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is an insecure CHUD. ❤
I am so hype for you to go over the circle of needle and thread (and tide and bone when the three episode will be out) because it is so good and i love candela so much!
Loved the video, I think that it encouraged me to check out the series! By the way, if you want to hear Ashley sing, check out the game Stray Gods. She's did a great job in it
I do want to give this a fair listen! (and I love mushroon shirt) I appreciate you packaging this show in a video that is short enough to actually be attainable to me. I am always interested in hearing about horror vibes and inspiration. I hope it addresses the issue of the game fairly, that is the hypocrisy and moral pulpit that it takes.
It may have taken me 2 sittings to get through this video, but my goodness was it worth it. Fantastic analysis, wonderful message, just perfect! Thank you Jay
I'm so glad to see you cover Candela Obscura like this. That series needs more love (I say as if 5K+ viewers on Twitch isn't enough.) Though the second circle gets... rough, I'd love to see you cover them (and Tide and Bone once that's done.) And your makeup is great. Not sure the lipstick quite works with your natural coloring, but it is an awesome color none the less.
Oh Jay. I was hoping you were going to do Needle and Thread. That "season" really took it to the extreme. Please check it out if you haven't yet. Tide and Bone has just begun and I love it but it will have to go real hard to beat S2. I'd love to hear your thoughts on your perfect fantasy cast. Fantasy as in drafting "players" not fantasy as in Magick. Lol
Omigod! I also thought i was the only one who was like, dude this is totally that Dr Who episode with the Queen's coronation and the TVs and Rose's spectacular rant about the Union Jack. Lol
Imogen is early pre Phoenix Jean Grey in marvel. Arlo is Wednesday type archetype (one of my favorites). I also thought Ashley played Augy well. Everyone talks about the other Candela actors and their Characters as some of the best. But Pure Characterization this cast is my favorite so far in Candela.
A tree, gnarled and old, black and withered, fingers bitten by winter. A static and mundane horror in of itself but for what is shackled within its rotten Heartwood this cannot be said. The creature of spite, gnawer at the roots of madness, devourer of myth and legend chitters with cold glee when you dear viewer near its prison. Splintered and shattered by a mere mention of the creature's purpose the arborial prison lies dead around the thin pelt of it... 🐿️
I gotta say, I really liked the first campaign better than the second. Maybe I resonated with the characters better, but the second campaign came off as far too depressing and hopeless that made it really difficult to finish. Even the moments that seemed desperate in this one, I felt there still was hope for some kind of cathartic ending, if not always happy. But, really, I just loved the characters in this one, they all just jelled so well with each other.
He has become the villain and is putting more time and effort into his spoiler warnings than anything else. I love this.

Jay don’t hate on Ashley’s singing, you should see her play Calliope in Stray Gods
And Allie in last of us

You NEED to discuss chapter 2 because each chapter becomes more and more intense and cerebral
I ❤the spoiler warning dubbed over the Candela Obscura intro. Fabulous parody.

Aragorn cries on camera, too. Nobody dares to question the masculinity of Aragorn, son of Arathorn, so you're in good company. :)
You made a treasure trove of gif opportunities 😂
I am in fact, the maker of my own undoing
Best spoiler warning ever! Definitely stopped me from watching the video to go watch the live play show

Don't be denied! Give that bottle SUCTION
dang what a way to be first
I don't think there was enough of a spoiler warning
Good call on community post, I missed this

This really makes me want to run a game of Candela Obscura
Art doesn’t need explanation, Jay ✨😂
Live play is a art to and i belive we all love the explanation Jay gives us. But i aggree that make up uid art and it is perfect without explanations.
Am I wrong that it's not in any way related to the D20 system? It's much closer to a simplified Call of Cthulhu type system?
I CANNOT BE STOPPED FROM THIRSTING OVER JAY!
Ok but I would love a review of ACOFAF cause it's by far my favorite fuckin D20 campaign
I think he's stated in the past that it's hard to do ones on D20, because it's a gamble if they'll copyright strike it or not.
For a second, thought you had a flesh light attached to the Minecraft frog 💀
As far as Ashley singing goes, she voiced Calliope in Stray Gods, a Musical RPG.

Is that lipstick Fenty? If so I have the same one!

So it’s just WoD system minus being a vampire?
FWIW, Ashley's character in C3 is the primary reason to watch that campaign
i am the pufferfish
very tragic story spoiler warning does not count as a spoiler warning. lol
Puppies!!!
I think Laura’s right hand is damaged. Her left hand is fine.
Potato Supremacy
My only problem is your color choice that teal just doesn’t fit you man you need a more pale tone on your makeup or go dark!
Iz a rat. :D
DOG CONTENT
Also I’m Beanie
Yes please do the other candela stories, just maybe without the makeup
