Hi James, my wedges would be 50 degree f grind 8 degrees bounce 54 degree s grind 10 degrees bounce 58 degree d grind 12 degrees bounce, Loving the original content, keep it coming!!
Good head to head test 👏👏. You can’t go too far wrong with either of those and after lockdown I would love to see more wedge head to head tests including more brands
Great wedges ! BUT I’ll go for Ping Glide 3.0’s !! They are KING OF SPIN in WET conditions. TXG did a wet/dry test last year and the results were amazing. The Glide 3.0’s only lost about 1,000 rpms compared to all others that lost about 1/2 of their dry spin !! I’ll be going for a custom fit later this summer and I’ll be definitely getting the 54 & 58 Deg wedges !
Not much unlike the previous comment, got fit for the SM8. Took delivery during our lock down. They've only been used for practice in my living room with foam balls.
I am a TaylorMade staff pro and of course play the MG2s. Love them. I did not like the original MG wedge for whatever reason. I have Hi-Toe wedges too which are fantastic as well. I will say that I did play a round with the SM8 wedges this year and they are fantastic. You can’t go wrong with either wedge so long as you’re fit with the correct bounce and loft for the conditions you most often play. Cheers!
Cleveland CBX2 54 degree - killer from 80 to 105 yards, and for most chips around green. Ping Glide 2.0 60 degree for lob shots. They respond differently, but make a terrific combination.
Hey dudes, I'd love to see a series on what to look for when purchasing each piece equipment. Early in the video, someone mentioned a sharp leading edge. Why might that be good or bad? I got fit for wedges last year... TM MG2 funnily enough. The fitter asked me a couple questions, I hit some shots, and we zeroed in on what worked best for me on full shots. I played with them this season and full shots were great but I felt clumsy around the green. If I knew how club characteristics affected my game, I feel like I'd be a more informed consumer and my fittings could be more effective.
Excellent content as always James. As you say it boils down to preferred looks and feel, but cost does sometimes factor. I’m still using Ping Tour W 50 & 60 split by my old trusty Titleist Dual Wedge from my first set back in the 80s. Could do with a new set but love to be fitted for them. Did the online fitting and hoping to win that..
I went to the PGA Superstore here in Austin Texas before the quarentine set in, and tried a bunch of different wedges...as my Ray Cook wedges are over 25 years old and a bit worn out. I really liked the Volkey Wedges. They were a bit pricey for me...so I passed on buying them. But...a few days later I was dropping off some of my dress slacks at the Goodwill Store ( I have lost about 85 lbs. and my pants were way to big on me! ) ...and I went into the store and found some lightly used Cleveland wedges...56° & 60°....and I am waiting for golf courses to open up tomorrow morning ( May 1st ) so I can at least hit some range balls and try out the Cleveland wedges!! When I was carrying a 4 handicap, I was known for having a very good short game. When I was in a bunker, I always looked at a bunker shot as one I could make. I was very confident in my wedge play. I liked your demonstration of the two different brands of wedges out of the bunkers...gave me an idea how they performed with two very good players using them. Excellent video !!!! I'd love to see more club demonstration's of wedges from around the greens from about 60 yards and closer. I found that when I practiced my short game more than other shots, my handicap dropped dramatically!
Had Callaway X forged; Miura (Black Satin); Vokey (SM6) and now Mizuno T20. Defiantly a difference in feel of forged wedges. Clearly the Miura are like no other. Very soft but after 7 years they are pretty worn out.
to be honest I think its down to personal preferences, personally I would say I like the design and shop of the Taylormade as I have taylormade clubs in bag. the black look is great and I like about the comment you said about the glare of the sun on the club,
It would depend on what irons you have..If you are using a Cavity Back iron, the go with a Cleveland CBX Wedge or a Ben Hogan Equalizer Wedge...Both are Great wedges...
Hey James, maybe I should save this for Chris's channel 2morrow but I was wondering if Chris teaches pointing the lead foot towards the flag instead of planting both feet in the sand like you typically see when watching tour players in the bunkers. Does he do that with all of his pitching and chip shots? Thanks a bunch for all the hard work you do to keep us mere mortals entertained during this time.
I thought the black finish wedges, with the blacked out loft/bounce looked cool until the time I pulled the wrong wedge out of the bag and wondered why I needed my ball retriever to get my ball back out of the creek!!!
This is actually the exact question I have asked myself recently. What I really want is a wedge that gives spinn as long as possible. Basically value for money. Will the raw face on the TM give me spinn for a longer time than the SM8? Thank you in advance James.
You can also get SM8s in raw through wedgeworks. That's what I did as I wanted mine stamped. $200 per club isnt as bad when most premium wedges without stamping are like $160 these days!
@@davidwilliamgolf6171 Depends on how OCD you are. It will eventually rust which some people say offers a little more spin over time. Some people cant stand the rusting though. I've played raw and raw finishes for years and always will. Generally raw and raw finished wedges feel better than plated finishes. At least IMO.
I’ve tried both and found them to be quite different feeling! For me the MG2 felt softer, in a good way but I did not love the turf interaction with the lob wedge. The Vokey felt a bit firmer but the turf interaction was exactly what I was looking for. ultimately I bought a 58.12 D grind SM8 and am really loving it so far. Anyone else have similar experiences? Really curious as to what people think of them!
Ive got fazer wedges as I got 3 for £110 they do a job but I’d love some “proper” wedges. I’m trying to blag my dads Mack daddy 4s as he barely goes golfing anymore, he only has a 50&56 tho, Chris bunker shots were outstanding James yours seemed to be off aim wise
Why do you forward press on your wedges? Doesn't that stop them from landing and stopping quicker? I understand maybe for the bump and run, but why on the higher shots? Like around the 11:00 min mark.
Ok, a bit of a chipping lesson is needed. By do you have a more standard 'open' stance and why does Chris have a closed stance. And I'm still gaming my SM6's which are great, my do with a refresh soon and up the bounces on all of them by 2-3 when I do.
The last time I played Waterfront I had a chip more or less identical to the ones on the hill you had at 8:31, used my 58 degree, thinned it straight over the green into the trees. What is the reason behind Chris' front foot position when he plays bunker shots? Is that just for balance, or is there an advantage to it?
Hi james have you tried smithworks wedges. They do two sorts non conforming and conforming wedges . I have the conforming and they are amazing . Give them a go
Can you possibly do a comparison with the Ping glide 3.0 wedges? I'm intrigued by the"cavity" style wedge in comparison to a more traditional blade style.
Love my SM8, especially the 52F grind, but having to work a little harder with the 60M grind(Think it’s just the shorter the game the tougher it is, so all on me there). Planning on getting the SM8 in 56 next to replace an age old Ping M/B. Question I have is 56S grind or as I was leaning more toward the 56D grind. What do you think? Know it’s preference really, but seems 12 bounce of the D would be better for me.
Hi James great review on them great wedges I play with W/S D7 I have very strong lofts my SW is 55° is this to strong do I need to mix some lower lofts between that my PW is 43° I don't have anything between them!?
I'm #teamcallaway all the way but if I had to dump my clubs after craftsmanship issues I had with Taylormade in the past I would play the Titleist sticks!
Unless your a pro or low low handicapper I'd say buy some used cheap wedges off Callaway Pre Owned an spend the rest of that money on lessons an greens fees.
mr vokey wont be pleased. tms performed better in my opinion. current wedges may look nice but personally overrated. Some absolute bargains out there. Cleveland RTX2s are super classic style blade wedges, the feel and control outstanding. Also still have the TM tour preferred wedges from 2014 and great wedges too.
Hi James, my wedges would be
50 degree f grind 8 degrees bounce
54 degree s grind 10 degrees bounce
58 degree d grind 12 degrees bounce,
Loving the original content, keep it coming!!
Good head to head test 👏👏. You can’t go too far wrong with either of those and after lockdown I would love to see more wedge head to head tests including more brands
By far the best one liner - “do you clean them?”, James “No”, “Rest my case!!”
I’m using the taylormade milled grind original and I love them
Great wedges ! BUT I’ll go for Ping Glide 3.0’s !! They are KING OF SPIN in WET conditions. TXG did a wet/dry test last year and the results were amazing. I’ll be going for a custom fit later this summer and I’ll be definitely getting the 54 & 58 Deg wedges !
Very pleasant surprise that Chris is based only 15 min away! Short game lesson coming up after lockdown!
I have milled grind 2 wedges and have absolutely zero complaints!
If you can get your hands on them I’d like to see a video about the new Wilson Staff wedges.
Crazy I’m a 18 hdcp i shot 73 with my sm7 wedges I’m sticking with Vokeys !!
Not much unlike the previous comment, got fit for the SM8. Took delivery during our lock down. They've only been used for practice in my living room with foam balls.

Great test guys, although my preference is with the Cleveland RTX wedges.
Love the sm8 wedges, after a thorough fitting really feel confident over them, shame they turned up a week before lockdown 😢😢😢

I picked up a set of Honma wedges and they perform exceptionally.
Played Vokey for years. Gone to milled grind. Miles better in every way. Great vlog though. 👍🏼

Really enjoyed this review James. What is the black shafts you’re using in the SM8’s please?
DG S400 mate

Jacob McCain thanks but brand isn’t really important to me. My dilemma is if I should go raw or not

Jacob McCain thank you for a very informative answer!
Using original TM MG’s and love em but had several sets of Vokeys in past and also quality
Combo for me, 48, 58 & 60 are titleist the 52 is the TM HIGH TOE BRONZE
Neither of them, cleveland rtx4
Just picked up a 52, 56 and 60 in those. I love them so much!
I've gone through MG, SM7, and I always go back to RTX. Currently playing a 50/54/58 RTx4
Playing a 54 and 58. Tried vokeys and TM and ping. RTX4 for me felt and performed so much better.
Daneel Rakow i play 50 56 62 best wedges by a mile
The only way to pick a wedge is to hit every bounce angle and hit off low grass to start off with. I learned the hard way like most people do.
`can you test PING Glide 3.0 and Cleveland CBX2 ?
I’ve tried both and found them to be quite different feeling! For me the MG2 felt softer, in a good way but I did not love the turf interaction with the lob wedge. The Vokey felt a bit firmer but the turf interaction was exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the tips, I need this to help on my game outside the green🤙

Great video. I too would like to see a comparison video with the Ping Glide 3.0. I enjoy watching you and Chris discuss various products.
I am not changing my Mizuno s18s. Consistency beats max spin, also S18s are just so flexible
James do you think these wedges are for better players or do you think any handicap can play both these wedges ?
Some terrible reading of the greens 🤣😜
Why don't you guys do a review of the inesis wedges at £30?
I cannot get over that you don't clean the club inbetween each shots ie grass residues - slippage, less spin, etc😁😁😁👍👍👍
Played Vokey for years, but just switched to the Mizuno T20 raw
Why do you forward press on your wedges? Doesn't that stop them from landing and stopping quicker? I understand maybe for the bump and run, but why on the higher shots? Like around the 11:00 min mark.
James great video. I enjoy it when you and Chris do videos. Enjoy the comparison between the 2 . I use Cleveland cbx wedges.
Thought it was an excellent watch. Its all down to personal preference really

James, can you start showing what the face looks like on the the black vokeys more so we can get an idea of what the wear looks like?
The last time I played Waterfront I had a chip more or less identical to the ones on the hill you had at 8:31, used my 58 degree, thinned it straight over the green into the trees. Loving the Vokeys...... goes without saying but loving the content too
Hi james have you tried smithworks wedges. They do two sorts non conforming and conforming wedges . I have the conforming and they are amazing . Give them a go
Ping. You should buy Ping Glides 3.0!! But, those Vokeys are pretty awesome, too!
Can you possibly do a comparison with the Ping glide 3.0 wedges? I'm intrigued by the"cavity" style wedge in comparison to a more traditional blade style.
Yes mate definitely
I still like my Cleveland wedges with “Zip” grooves.I know they are considered illegal, but I don’t play in tournaments.
Hey James why not u try testing a wedge with 0 degrees of bounce versus a wedge with ridiculous amount of bounce ?
Smithworks wedges for me
I prefer Cleveland CBX wedges.
Hi James, when are you going to carry out the Vokey wedge fitting challenge against Chris?
Soon as lockdown is eased mate. Want to do it on a proper geeen
Save your selves a headache in short game and go with the Cleveland CBX 2 wedges you won't be sorry you did cheers James great vid

Does sole . and bounce make a lot of difference to a high handicapper.i wouldn’t of thought so
Some pretty good shots with some nice wedges. Enjoyed the review.
Ping, Cleveland, etc. Love the vids James but I hope you consider thinking of other brands as being just as good as the big boys!
I’ve got the sm8 just they feel great for me and I chipped in on my 1st time using them haha
Nothingfeelslikeamizuno - T20s all the way please!!!
Hi James great review on them great wedges I play with W/S D7 I have very strong lofts my SW is 55° is this to strong do I need to mix some lower lofts between that my PW is 43° I don't have anything between them!?
Standard SW is 56 degrees so I think you'll be fine. I'd add a 51 or 52 degree and maybe a 60 degree to have even more versatility
@@seandunawaydrums1060 thank you for the heads up 👍😷🏌️♂️⛳
What I want to know is how to bounce the ball in the air like they both did with seemingly zero effort.
James you’re sense of direction seemed to be off a bit. Do you pay much attention to setup during play.
James: blah blah blah blah
Chris: anyway, get on with it.
I enjoy the banter and Chris’s deadpan humour.
Me too... I think
First Comment, nice video
Keep it up James
Looking forwards to watching this. Just liked preemptively
Love the video james
I'm #teamcallaway all the way but if I had to dump my clubs after craftsmanship issues I had with Taylormade in the past I would play the Titleist sticks!
Please make a video with steel shafts in woods and Driver.
Why is Chris’s left foot pointing at the flag during the bunker shots? Is this something us mere mortals should try?
Unless your a pro or low low handicapper I'd say buy some used cheap wedges off Callaway Pre Owned an spend the rest of that money on lessons an greens fees.
birthday in 3 days , hopefully going to get a wedge fitting a
henry Dimmack 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I played ping glide 3 shaft 95 gr.and vega shaft carbon..top..
Great video really enjoy it
Good video. Off 8 and cbx2 all day. Ta
I like sm7 but do prefer ping glide 3
People buy Vokey because it has a long history but MG2 are the best wedges I've ever played.
SM8 more chance of getting a grind and bounce option that suits me
Always go Vokey, nothing compares to the pure feel of a BV. 🙌🏻
or what about bombtech? You would get the same performance with 1/3 of the price
SAS GOLF said in a video that expensive wedges aren’t going to help us amateurs anymore than a 30-40 pound wedge? Do you agree?
I'd likely go Cleveland RTX 4's but i'll take either set if you want to post those to me :)
Honourable? 😂😂😂 Love it
I’ve been away from the game for 30+ years, not really understanding all the wedge options 🥴🥴
Link to Chris's channel?

Hi JP, Chris Dennis Golf 👍
Hope you enjoy.
Chris Dennis Golf awesome thanks 👍🏻
Vokeys! 👏
Id use Vokey
Ahh second
Great video
Callaway Jaws!
Right now? None. I can’t play golf because of this lockdown 😭😭😭

Titleist , oil can finish , 60 dg is without the best wedge on the market ! Going to take a lot to swap
What’s Chris’ surname and his RUclips channel ?
Vokey is my club
I'd go Vokey personally, sure Chris would go with whatever he could Rob from someone else 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ping glide 2.0 stealth!
Should have played different lofts from different angles around the green you got used to the green from one angle
Sorry Andy
James Robinson Golf you are forgiven still great content keeping me going thro lockdown
