This is great. Love me some Ill Repute.
I'm from a totally unfashionable northern industrial town in England where any unconventional culture is hard to find But I heard Ill Repute when I was 15 around '85/86 on a life changing tape compilation of USA hardcore punk. I remember finding the OG What Happens Next a couple of years later for £5 ($5), and playing it to near death. Still have it and the EPs and Omelette... Really enjoyed this documentary. Your music travelled and affected people much further than perhaps you'd expect.
Rest in peace bob Clark from agression
Yall lead the way thank god old punks I was 3
If anyone doesn’t know already, Season 2 Episode 3 of Stranger Things plays Clean Cut American Kid in the show!
Fuck that show
Dude that's so rad ! I'm from LA but I live in Oregon I f****** love I'll Repute ..
I was watching that with my wife and 11 year old daughter. I almost fell off my chair! I was like "Thats ILL REPUTE!" They were like "who?!"
Awesome didn’t know that
I remember being around 10 years old in Oxnard hearing about these guys. Really random this popped up in my algorithm but not mad about it. Way cool.
I love ill repute
This was never really my taste of music, but it's nice hearing about guys from my neighborhood and went to the same high school making a name for themselves.
This brings back old memories. Never had an opportunity to have their record, but tapes were good enough
Thanks Stan! Still think you should have made an out take reel with Forrest and I telling Tony is old stories!
Ill repute is amazing
I first heard/saw them on that 1993 tour at a skate park in Flagstaff, AZ. The local opening band took forever to show up and play, so unfortunately Ill Repute had maybe a 30 minute set as headliners, but they killed it. I bought Big Rusty Balls off them that night (cool colored marble vinyl, if I recall). So that was the first record of theirs I heard and to be honest, it's one of the most overlooked punk albums of the time period. It holds up to this day. I had no idea John was their singer, either! So I later got to discover their earlier stuff, which was fun. I later had a music review site online and Tony was cool enough to mail me the Bleed and And Now CDs, which was awesome. Cool to hear their story and hope they keep it up as long as they keep having fun doing it.
I watched this documentary on dvd
Really glad to finally get to see this, thanks for posting it!
How old is this documentary? I'm 53 now and still listen to Ill Repute every now and again. I remember first buying their Omelette album like in 1986 in a used record bin, which is a collection of their songs previously released on 7" singles and compilations. Then I got my hands on the Nardcore compilation and I was hooked. Great bands and timeless music. There will never be bands like this anymore.
It originally premiered 2013 at NARDFEST at the Ventura Theatre.
Thank you thank you 👍👍👍 for posting
I love that their first show was a Dickies gig! Much love to the whole band.
sweet didn't know!
Hay Calvin how well do you know MIA Songs?
☆IxRx is the soundtrack of my youth, adult, and soon senior citizenship! Lol! Luv this band ever since 1st listen. Saw them late eighties until current. Wish I was 6 yrs older so I could have seen 'em in the early eightiex.... Such a great documentary! I could watch this a billion times♡ Infinite thanx to all involved in makin this freakin cool piece of history and music♡☆
Cool! Thanks from the Philippines!
Saw them at quite a few shows back in the early 80s in Sacto and SF.
Born in Oxnard in 1969....went to Ventura high with a Ill Repute symbol on my punk rocker jacket....hard to believe anyone talks about nardcore bands......Dr. Know was the biggest and best in my opinion....Aggression...Stallag 13....saw them all many times.....oh and Coalition.....jk......they were from Ventura not Oxnard.......
Im in my 40's, so my first Ill Repute album was Big Rusty Balls, but it opened my eyes to their older stuff, and i even really like the late 90's albums. Although im in agreement that they shouldve moved forward under a different name.
Ill Repute was my first ever punk show, they played with Glue Gun and Bad Samaritans at Kavanaughs in Van Nuys. Ended in a mini riot when Ill Repute was playing. Was a fun show!
Seen them in 2007 with Social Unrest at the old Showcase Theatre in Corona...AMAZING SHOW
I got a red vinyl Mystic 7” compilation with IR’s “stop and think” on it when it was new. It’s one of my most prized possessions. Every band on it was so good. Part of the soundtrack to my youth.
Great! Thanks for uploading this! 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
Played with em an Scared Straight in Detroit 85 👍
Fantastic work!
Nice documentary
Johnny p.love that guy.i worked with him in the 90s and shared waves .you wouldnt know he was a punker if you met him on the street
First heard CCAK when I bought the RoTR III. Every song on that record is so cool. Even the instrumental by The Bangles, Bitchin Summer (Speedway), when Annette Zilinskas was the drummer. Still own it, vinyl is the only way to hear it.
Keep up the good work
Love your channel
Just got to see you the ILL REPUTE ocumentary super stoked! THE NICEST GUYS YOU WOULD EVER MEET, TONY Still helps get us gigs. One Show i.vividly remember was the show we played with Dr Know in Bakersfield ,and our band Rat Pack w/a local band, anyways The local band,we had played with in Isla Vista, but they had s lame gang,,who had followed them at evet show "the 8 baller's" & they wanted to fight, anyone , But they end up getting it on with Dr Know, to say they u were out numbered, was sn understatement,Rik opened up a can of whoop ass on some fools, Jimmy (ill reputr) gabbed ,a cymbal stend, along with Kyle, by them¿DR.Know, ,&Rat pack. More safely able to see get their gear out of. there, and I think both bandss even got
Paid

Big ups for talking/ filming them- top live band from 84- if y'all ever get chance though, take out or turn way down that distracting cello wtf music at beginning 🤗
Carl Valdez is my favorite member from ill repute
Thank you Sam!!!
@@carlvaldez8144your welcome dude
Live on Halloween
I didn't know they made so many crappy records. I only have the first two. I think its all most people care about . Those first two are why we're still interested in them.
Being from the east coast I never got to see I’ll repute…then One day they were supposed to play cbgb in 2006 with dr know towards the end of the cbs era……..6 hr round trip to see I’ll repute and they cancelled…fuck…I’ve never seen this band
👍
A little after my time.
But cool dudes
Will somebody PLEASE recite the exact lyrics to the song “Oxnard”?
I believe there were no "exact" lyrics, as John would often change them from venue to venue.
@@carlvaldez8144 Man, I have been trying for decades to decipher what he’s saying on the record. If you believe that John can recall or decipher those exact lyrics on the record, that would fulfill a lifelong goal of mine and would be appreciated highly. LOLZ. I even asked Tony and he didn’t know . I know that sounds crazy but until then I will still try to decipher them. Thanks for your reply, Carl. God bless.
@@demoniojoe1907 many have had conversations with John about this. And from someone who has "heard" him sing this song (and actually we co-wrote it together) I can assure you that he sings it differently. Maybe in the early years he tried to sing the same thing - but even in the studio I recall him saying HE didn't even know what he was trying to say. As the song evolved, he did try to tell more of a story, but even that changed over the years. I've been talking to him lately, so I'll see what I can pull out of him.
@@carlvaldez8144 Thank you SO much. I highly appreciate that. 💯💯💯
KICKASS !!!!!!
Do a new record!!! Ikl buy two!
Remember you gonna draw your shit up ?
I wanna say that it was nice to see Ismael from Dr. Know on this. That whole creepy ass ring he was involved in was straight up disgusting!! 🤬🤬🤬
Agreed
I saw them in 84 & 85 they were great. What happens next era. Sounds like the singer fucked it up. Common story.
Wow
