I can tell you that you missed Miyazaki's first film 'Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro.' The story is about a thief, Lupin's descendant, and a princess. I'd like to hear your review about the movie.
I always think Totoro is belittled a bit because people claim it's too simple and straightforward. But when you start looking at the film as an allegory (Totoro filling in as a parent surrogate figure for the absent, bed-ridden mother), it actually becomes pretty genius.
Yes! I think for this reason it’s a perfect movie to be enjoyed by children AND adults. Watching it as a kid feels different than watching it again as you get older.
Captures the joy of childhood in the face of hardships. If u think about it, the double feature with grave of the fireflies isn’t the worst thing in the world
wow i actually didn't saw the movie like that. this genuinely changed what i got from the movie lol but thanks i can suggest my friends the movie in a different way now
@@lilii6914 I absolutely love hearing that! If you ever watch it again, you can pick up on so many cool details like how Mei (the youngest sister) says at one point smth like "I only sleep in the same bed as Mom because Mom is special" and then that night she falls asleep on top of Totoro, drawing the parallel between the Mom and Totoro!
I watched only yesterday when I was 12 and thought what a boring movie, but now living in a different country and away from loved ones, it makes so much sense and really connects with me. 🖤
Oh god, Whisper of the Heart really captures the confusion of finding your direction in adolescence, while also exploring a sweet love story between two characters who inspire each other. It's not dramatic, world-changing, heart-jumping out of your chest love either, just soft, gentle, honest connection. Totally underrated film. I swell with emotion during Shizuku and Seiji's rendition of "Country Roads", and am still not even totally sure why!
This. I wwtched it bc i thought i need something great but simple. It‘s gold. I had a really horrible and traumatizing das and when they showed the End credits wäre all the ppl Walked the sidewalks i cried so hard. This movie also motivated me
Totally agree, this movie made me tear up so many times, the characters were great and it wasn't overly intense like some action driven plots, more slice of life but still fascinating. Honestly the opening scene when Olivia Newton-John's Country Roads, plays and it just breaks out with the nighttime city lights is what makes me start bawling, ridiculous as it sounds😂
Arrietty is definitely under appreciated. Shawn is sick and depressed so there is more of a melancholy feel to it, but not 'super fun' doesn't mean bad. The bittersweet ending was very relatable.
it's a summer love, it's a love that both helped Sho and Arietty grow up. It wasn't a love meant to last, and it was impossible due to size difference, but the purpose of this love was to help them change.
Marnie is one my favs. It deals with a lot. It’s a pretty heavy movie. I loved the main character and her arc. The setting and mystery to it all really captured me too.
@@loonaoecit introduced me to Priscilla Ahn's music, and I'm so glad, because her music is great, and A Good Day wound up becoming my number 1 comfort album.
In my opinion, Howl’s moving castle is the best Studio Ghibli movie. I would even go as far as saying it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I loved it so much that I forced my mom and grandpa to watch it (I never force them to watch things) even though they aren’t into movies with magic. This movie really moved me (see what I did there). Everything about it was just breathtaking to me. It was also the first Studio Ghibli movie I watched.
My whole family got addicted and took over my watching while I left to get McDonalds and afterwards everyone had their opinions on it and were super engaged
Nausicäa will always be one of my favorites… the world building, characters, and environmental themes are just amazing and THE SCORE…. it really adds so much to the whole atmosphere and feel of the movie
In my opinion, when I think about Studio Ghibli now, the first thing that comes into my mind is Nausicaa. Even though Nausicaa was made before Ghibli was formed lol but I can't help but think that this movie has such a complete different vibe to the other films within the collection and maybe it's just because I have gained such a special connection to it. The score from this film is within my top 10 favourite film scores of all time also... which is crazy to think as I've seen a shit ton of films but there is no denying that Joe is the Goat!!
I’m so glad princess kaguya is rated so high up! it’s definitely one of my favorites and definitely deserves more! the animation and story are so beautiful 💖🤍
I would put the Grave of the Fireflies on perfection. Because it transmits human emotions and compassion so professionally, animation is perfect and has a lot of scenes of greenery that are soothing. In my opinion, Howl’s also deserves perfection, because even though it is so complicated to understand and relate each scene, especially for kids, overall you can watch in in one sitting without questioning and enjoying the strange story, as we used to listen to the stories we did not get in childhood with amazement. Ponyo, to my mind is not that good. The story is expectable and would satisfy toddlers to watch. Animation is not that good either, has no nostalgic taste and no pastel colors, too bright as it would please more the toddlers. Lastly, the cat returns is also very entertaining and story-like movie that every time I watch it feels so nostalgic and makes me forget the life problems and to just get involved in a hearty, easygoing anime. I would rather put it on the category of ‘it is really good’. ❤
@@avamorvillo8745 I enjoy the aesthetics, but still don’t think the stories of Ponyo, Totorro, Arietty, The Cat Returns and Kiki etc. would be comparable to the other Ghibli pieces I mentioned, such as the Howl’s.
@@laleeeah that’s a fair and valid opinion. Ponyo is one of my favorites because of its child-like appeal, but I understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
I really enjoy your videos when you discuss studio Ghibli . As a 69 year old man, I’m sure I’m way outside the usual Ghibli demographic. That said I am an enthusiastic fan and have been for at least 25 years back to when my sons were young. Castle in the Sky is my favorite, I bet I’ve watched it at least 50 times. Thanks for your work.
I first watched Castle in the Sky because my aunt gave us the VHS, I really have to thank her for my love of Ghibli movies and I wish to be the person that makes people love Ghibli as well in the future!
Omg Kiki's Delivery Service was the first Studio Ghibli movie I ever saw I almost cried when you put it in perfection bc I still luv it so much to this day!! 😭
I recently watched The Wind Rises and honestly was not prepared for how much it hit me and how amazing it actually was. I love Studio Ghibli, I've never had a series of films make me feel so much nostalgia so easily. I don't know if i could ever truly pick a favorite, but at least my top 5 would have to be Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle In The Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Even some of those can change just because I love them all for different reasons.
Personaly my rank is : Perfection : Howl's moving castle, Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Ponyo Amazing : Kiki's delivery service, Castle in the sky, Arrietty, The wind rises, The tale of the princess Kaguya, When Marnie was there It's really good : Nausicaa, Totoro, Grave of the fireflies, Porco Rosso, Whisper of the heart Fine I guess : Only yesterday, The cat returns, From up on Poppy Hill, Earwig and the witch Not my thing : Ocean Waves, The neighbors the Yamadas, Tales from Earthsea
Although it hurts to see my all-time favorite Ghibli film "Grave of the Fireflies" in the burn-it category, I definitely hear where you are coming from! Here is my list for my top 5 Ghibli movies! ^-^ 1) Grave of the Fireflies 2) Spirited Away 3) Princess Mononoke 4) Ponyo 5) Howl's Moving Castle & My Neighbor Totoro (those two always tie for me) Cheers!!
It’s great for you to do this type of video, Monika. You seem to have a really great taste when it comes to movies, especially the Studio Ghibli ones. I hope you continue to inspire people to appreciate films.
Whisper of the heart and Howl's moving castle. They are my favorite movies, but if I have to choose between one I choose Howl's Moving Castle, when I saw the movie as a child I literally fell in love with magic and I also had a crush on Howl 'cause why not Incredible video, we missed you💜
My top 10 Studio Ghibli films: 1. The Tale of Princess Kaguya 2. Spirited Away 3. Castle in the Sky 4. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 5. Kiki’s Delivery Service 6. Howl’s Moving Castle 7. Whisper of the Heart 8. My Neighbor Totoro 9. Porco Rosso 10. The Wind Rises
BRO how can you burn grave of the fireflies??? i remember watching it when i was ~10yo and learning to be kind to those you love because death will always be at the end of the tunnel
They got traumatized by it, understandable - this one is that kind of movie that not everyone can appreciate and enjoy, it's painful and that's exactly why it's beautiful, because it hurts your feelings in a way that's nearly unmatched by any other movie ever made.
FINALLY someone else who realizes how good The Wind Rises is!!! I either hear absolutely nothing about it or, when people do talk about it, they don't appreciate it. One of my favourites for sure!
There are so many Studio Ghibli films I really love for a variety of reasons. I have strong nostalgia for My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away since I watched both of them as a kid; Castle in the Sky is a fun fast-paced adventure with two absolutely adorable leads; Kiki's Delivery Service and Whisper of the Heart are sweet coming-of-age stories that get better with every viewing; Howl's Moving Castle is a fun and mature love story with loads of interesting characters; The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is a uniquely beautiful experience that deals with some really impactful and emotional ideas. But undoubtedly Princess Mononoke is my absolute favourite Ghibli film - the messages are profound and mature, all the characters are well-developed and nuanced, the action is exciting and brutal, the animation is excellent, and the music is just...indescribable. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's one of my all-time favourite films, animated or otherwise
5 stars: from up on poppy hill (romance drama?!), castle in the sky (beautiful), howls moving castle (beautiful yet funny), spirited away (strange yet intriguing world), grave of the fireflies (touching), Kiki's delivery service (makes me feel at home) 4 stars: my neighbor Totoro (relaxing), when Marnie was there (plot twisty and different), the cat returns (disturbing in a good way), Nausicaa (great message), princess kaguya (beautiful), whisper of the heart (nostalgic), the secret world of arriety (different from others) 3 stars: (all these good movies just not ones I found super interesting) ponyo, porco Rosso, the wind rises, my neighbor the yamadas, only yesterday, princess mononoke 2 stars: pom poko (I don't wanna see those moving around) 1star: tales of earthsea, ocean waves (nah)
My favorites are definitely Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa and Howl’s Moving Castle!!! I definitely think the first two are because of how much I connected to the characters of Pazu and Nausicaa!!! and Howl’s Moving Castle is just so romantic that I couldn’t help but love it!!!
Thank you for suggesting me the Grave of the fireflies. I just watched it and when I saw you put it on burn it again I literally cryed. Your comment hurt me more than the actual movie. I think it has became my favorite. It's perfect!!
I think my top Ghibli movies would be Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Totoro, Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, and then tied are Howl's Moving Castle/Castle in the sky, and From up on Poppy Hill. I grew up with Ghibli movies instead of Disney, and every one I've seen holds a special place in my heart. It was absolutely insane to me to hear someone talk about these movies without a lot of background in the folktales, lore, and messaging from Japanese culture that makes these movies so unbelievably important. I never thought about how different and less enjoyable it would be to watch for other cultures. It was really eye-opening. My mother still won't let us all watch grave of the fireflies together, we've had the disc unopened for over 5 years, it's just too much. My great-grandmother was the oldest sister in a family torm apart by WWII, she had to care for her siblings and work on a silk farm in Japan. I never knew her, but she passed last year. (dw I'm fine lol not asking for sympathy) But I know my mom was close to her.
Tales of princess kaguya is hands down my fave, it has such a raw depiction of violence, the resistance to it and the feeling of entrapment certain people feel in this society. I make everyone I know watch it sooner or later and everybody always cries because of it. That movie is the equivalent of spirited away for Isao Takahata
I was an 18 year-old boy when I first watched Whisper of the Heart. The film was, and still is, a perfect antidote for someone who’s struggling to achieve his/her goals. Whisper of the Heart had me covered in tears, and it’s one of the best film I’ve ever seen. I’m glad that you praised the film as perfection, because it truly is perfect🫡🫡
Please put Grave of the Fireflies in “Not my Thing” rather than “Burn it”. Like- I can totally understand why you wouldn’t want to watch it again, or maybe even would never have wanted to see that, it’s a valid opinion, but I do think it’s a beautiful piece of art that deserves to exist. I know you didn’t mean the burn it category literally, and you explained that at the beginning, but still, it killed me a bit inside to see that
I didn’t watch them all yet but here is my personal ranking of the ones I did watch S-Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away A-Whisper Of The Heart, Castle In The Sky B-The Secret World Of Arrietty, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle I have a lot of other movies to watch but I really love Studio Ghibli so much so far and I am glad to know that they exist. Ghibli > Disney. Also because of this channel, Ghibli ended getting me to love other anime movies.
As much as I have an appreciation and nostalgia for the big hitters like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc. Porco Rosso really stands out to me and might have become my favorite.
My top 5 studio ghibli movies would be 1. The grave of the fireflies 2. When marnie was there 3.The tale of princess kaguya 4. Spirited away 5.Princess monoke
Thank you! I honestly think that Kiki's Delivery Service is a perfect film! It was nice to finally see this film being recognised for what it is. I hold this film dear to my heart and it was the first Studio Ghibli film I've ever watched at the ripe age of 12 and it will always be my favourite Ghibli film, even one of my favourite films in general. It deserves the ranking ❤🔮
Thank you for sharing this ranking of yours, I was wondering what would be yours for some time now... ! My top five is probably Nausicaa, Howl, Kiki, Mononoké and From Up on Poppy Hill actually ! I also personnally really liked Tales of Earthsea too, I've watched it several times. Unpopular opinion I know. Whisper of the heart is very beautiful too... The choice is kind of impossible ! And I plan on rewatching all these movies, as one night - one ghibli, very soon so this type of videos gives me motivation ! (and sorry for my english, I'm a sleeppy french right now...) Love your videos, great job !
I have only watched the first 13 so far, also Arrietty & Wind Rises. My top 5 so far. 1: The Wind Rises 2: The secret world of Arrietty 3: Princess Mononoke 4: My Neighbor Totoro 5: Nausicaä 6: Whisper of the Heart The Wind Rises was my first Ghibli film. An it... just wow. Will probably always be my favorite. I was actually somewhat disappointed with they're other films. That's how high "The Wind Rises" set the bar for me. Great video, Thanks 👍
Give Yamadas another chance ;) it’s my boyfriend’s favorite Ghibli film. It’s so comforting and tells a story of a family’s milestones in life in a funny and cute way
Only yesterday was hands down a magical movie experience for me. I watched it only a few years ago with my father. It was beautiful. The scene where the protagonist is going to the countryside, passing through the fields, and ROMANIAN FLUTES ARE PLAYING ON THE BACKGROUND, god, one of my favorite movie moments ever...
Only Yesterday is my all time favorite of all.... It has played a very important part in my life when I took a Physics major after studying Finance for 2 years(shocked my family and friends)..... Physics and teaching was my all time love but due to better career options I chose finance and later realized it is not for me...... This movie build my thoughts of quitting my Finance major much stronger.... Now I am proud of the decision which I took 8 years back..
I remember seeing the cat returns as a child, then forgetting the name and wanting to rewatch for years, then I find this video; time to relive my childhood.
I am really happy studio ghibli still gets so much love and recognition worldwide and for good reason. They made amazing films with great messages and has well written characters, that deserve to be seen by many generations. It tackles issues such as war, environmentalism, capitalism, greed, without making it bland for even the younger audiences. They are films for all ages and they deserve their recognition.
Spirited Away will forever be one of my favourites and despite many popular films being considered not that great, that movie is one of the few where I can actually see no flaws in. I also remember watching it for the first time a a kid and have been in love with ever since. My top 5 would then include Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Cat Returns and either Princess Mononoke or Ponyo! Both so different and I love them for different reasons
For me, Perfection is an understatement for The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. It's the first animated movie that I watched that really hooked me up from start to finish. It's an 11/10
Huge ghibli fan but I was very underwhelmed the first and only time I saw kaguya.. maybe I just have to rewatch it. Loved this video!! Top movies for me would be mononoke and nausicaa. Zero flaws
OMG YES! Only Yesterday is such a comfort movie for me and definitely deserves more recognition! Same opinion with Ocean Waves! I've seen it hyped up a bit online so watched it and was just so disappointed. The love story makes no sense. U could probably watch it silent and it would be better coz it's pretty aesthetic.
I think that in princess Mononoke isnt really a villain. Its just a interessconflict of two sides and we can chose or even not chose. That makes this movie so perfect for me.
Thanks so much for this great vid. I whole-heartedly agree with you on the perfection of Whisper of the Heart. Princess Mononoke is my absolute favorite, but Whisper of the Heart is way up there. Also, I would say go with Glasses Option #2; they don't seem too round.
Great video! This is my ranking: 23. Earwig and the Witch 22. Ocean Waves 21. Pompoko 20. My Neighbors the Yamadas 19. Takes from Earthsea 18. Ponyo 17. The Secret World of Arietty 16. The Cat Returns 15. Only Yesterday 14. From Up on Poppy Hill 13. Porco Rosso 12. Castle in the Sky 11. Howl’s Moving Castle 10. Whisper of the Heart 9. Kiki’s Delivery Service 8. When Marnie Was There 7. Grace of the Fireflies 6. My Neighbor Totoro 5. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 4. The Wind Rises 3. Spirited Away 2. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya 1. Princess Mononoke
My Neighbor totoro is my favorite Ghibli movie of all time. There is too much of Nostalgia and moments put into this one than any other films on this earth.
I agree about the animation style of earwig and the witch, it is not a good one and thinking that this came from the same studio that created such amazing pieces, it’s sad. But the story itself and even the ending it’s not the studio’s fault. The story was written by the same author of Howl’s moving castle, there is a book with the same name, but she died and the book was left unfinished, and the movie ends just like the book. 😢 I actually liked more after reading it.
The wind rises just broke me. that's my tier for it. With Howl's moving castle and chihiro I just related to the main characters a lot, especially growing up as an insecure nerdy shy kid. Thanks for this list ❤ really reminded me of the love i had for Miyazaki and that I need to see more ghibli movies
Just finished watching Only Yesterday and I have to say I'm really happy I did it! It's a great movie which combines the present and the past in a really creative way. It also feels very real, very human. Definitely recommend 💛
I also love the cat returns! defintely a big part is because of nostalgia and how I loved it as a child, but I still love it and find it enjoyable and fun movie! I understand why others may not like it compared to Ghibli's others, but I always thought it was great!
I am more aligned with "fantasy/whisked away to another world" movies, but I don't mind some of the slice of life movies. With that being said here's my tierlist... S: Howls, Spirited Away, Mononoke, Nausica, Kaguya, Lupin: Cagliostro Castle A: Castle in the Sky, Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Totoro, Kiki's, Earthsea, Pom Poko, Yamadas B: Fireflies, Arietty, Marnie C: Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart D: Ocean Waves, Wind Rises, Poppy Hill E: Earwig and the Witch
I find the ranking system odd, particularly the "Deserves more" Tier. You said this is based on your own opinion, but a lot of the ranking is held back by public perception. Underatted movies like Only Yesterday can't enter the "Perfection"-Tier because of how unpopular they are. Would you rank Spirited Away lower if it wasn't popular?
You make a good point... Only Yesterday is my favorite movie ever!! I don't care how popular it is!! Nothing will change how I feel about it!! I've discovered over the years that a person's favorite Studio Ghibli film depends a lot on when you saw it in your life and what order you watch the movies in.
Loved this! Absolutely love Only Yesterday too. I really like From up on Poppy Hill, even though the relationship development between the main characters is a bit weird.
I actually liked Earwig and the Witch, it was great fun and my 4 year old son loved it. The animation could have been better, but for me it was a story about an imaginative kid being adopted and constructing a fantasy to deal with it. Plus, the music rocked.
Even if I don't particularly like Earwig, I think they still managed to keep the iconic Ghibli nostalgia, I mean even if the story is a bit weird they still have the trick to make a simple but at the same time heart warming story, like Christmas movies
My rank would be : 1. Sprited Away (one of the best animated movies of all time in my opinion. This movie was absolutely magical, touching and meaningful. And Haku personality reminds me of myself) 2. Howl's Moving Castle (because i really like the love concept that this movie delivers) 3. Princess Mononoke (at first i thought it was a weird movie, especially with all the weird animal characters in it, but then i thought it was such a spiritual and beatiful movie) 4. The Wind Rises (i love how realistic this movie felt. It was almost felt like it wasn't an animation movie, it's just so mature) 5. My Neighbor Totoro (i just love kids!!! I love kids so much, i love watching them play, explore things, how they are so honest and imaginative, and i think this movie perfectly delivered that. I love this family type of movie) 6. Arriety (i love the set of this movie, growing up i always imagine what if i was a small fairy, and i could make a house from flowers and leaves, and having an adventure in human world) 7. Kiki's Delivery Service (this was such a fun and enjoyable movie. Just watching her having an adventure on her own, makes me really happy) 8. The Tale Of Princess Kaguya ( i love this movie so much, its magical like you said, but this movie somehow breaks my heart 😢 thats why i just don't want to watch it again) 9. Ocean Waves (i agree that the characters of this movie was really unlikeable and the story line was so bad, but there are some point in this movie that resonated with me) 10. Grave Of The Fireflies (Depressing! I remember watching this for the first time as a kid, i cried so much and it left me in a bad mood for a few days after watching it. But i have to admit that this movie was absolutely beautiful. 11. Ponyo (even though i really like kids, i don't know why but ponyo was a little bit annoying to me. i just couldn't explained it why but, yes it was a bit annoying for me) There my rank, i only wrote till 11 because i haven't wacth the other movies.
Cool list! Seems like you got just as many Ghibli movies ahead of you to watch as the ones you seen! Here’s my list if you wanna know my slightly controversial opinion: ruclips.net/video/UjDDe-dZbqs/видео.html
Very good and understandable tier list, you were very fair with all the movies while expressing your opinions. As for my top 5... 1- Spirited Away 2- Princess Mononoke 3- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 4- Castle in the Sky 5- Kiki's delivery service
Isao takahata is my fave director of studio ghibli because of how much i love tale of princess kaguya and grave of the fireflies. He captures human emotion on a molecular level
For me nothing will beat Kikis delivery service! It's just a classic and perfection at that...not to mention all the characters in it are so likeable and the world building is insane💙💙😭🔥
*MY TOP 5 ST.GHIBLI MOVIES:* 1. Princess Mononoke; 2. Spirited Away; 3. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind; 4. Kiki's Delivery Service; 5.When Marnie Was There (Seriously Underrated) (In my opinion); BONUS - Whisper Of The Heart.
happy to see nausicaä high on the list; it’s my favourite film of all time! the metaphors for nuclear destruction, the themes of animal rights and environmental protection, the plot, the characters, the colour scheme, the design of the plants and insects, and the absolutely incredible soundtrack all make it a perfect film to me :) 💙
Then you might enjoy my ranking vid! ruclips.net/video/UjDDe-dZbqs/видео.html Well depending on what you think of them other Ghibli movies too of course. Do you hate Princess Kaguya?
Okay but like the cat returns is such a weird yet funny movie, I love how it feels like a fever dream. Maybe I just like it cause of my strange sense of humor😂
Didn’t much care for it on my first view, but last time I liked it quite a bit. Think it made it to my top ten ruclips.net/video/UjDDe-dZbqs/видео.html
You missed two, "The Red Turtle" and "From Up On Poppy Hill" Anyway, here's my picks. No order. Per: Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Arrietty Amaz: Cat Returns, Ponyo R Good: Kiki, Porco Rosso, Earthsea, Wind Rises Fine: Totoro, Not My Thing: Grave of Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, Pom Poko, Yamadas, Princess Kaguya, Marnie Burn It: Earwig
I agree with a lot of this - I love the Cat Returns though and to me From Up on Poppy Hill, makes me cry every time and gives me a feeling of summer more than any other movie out there, same with Whisper of the Heart! My Favourite is still Nauscaä - it´s in my top 3 movies of all time. I believe Earthsea is complicated because it´s a book adaptation of a very complicated world, and I always get goosebumps when the girl with the brun mark sings :)
If your a fan of Nauscaä, you should DEFINITELY check out the manga! The movie changed quite a bit and it's like only 1/3 of the manga. It's still amazing, but the manga is a masterpiece and much more detailed ! My top 5 is; 1.From Up on Poppy Hill (imo it has the best OST of all ghibli movies) 2.Nausicaä 3.Kiki's delivery service 4.Whisper of the Heart 5.Totoro

I can tell you that you missed Miyazaki's first film 'Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro.'
The story is about a thief, Lupin's descendant, and a princess. I'd like to hear your review about the movie.
I did wear some 👓 on my latest vid’ mostly wear 🕶 though… think I used both on the vid’…
My journey into becoming an Animé fan was watching SG movies like Kiki's Delivery Service. ❤
I don't see how Totoro played that role in the film really?
Grave of the Fireflies is both Perfection and Burn It
Whisper of the Heart is my absolute favorite movie, ever. It's so good and sooo under-appreciated.
Agreeee 💗
Same!!!
Not gonna lie tho, when Marnie was there is a close second
Not many people know it. Its my favorite movie ever. Comfort movie
Saammeee
I watched only yesterday when I was 12 and thought what a boring movie, but now living in a different country and away from loved ones, it makes so much sense and really connects with me. 🖤
Same! It really speaks to me now 💗
Oh god, Whisper of the Heart really captures the confusion of finding your direction in adolescence, while also exploring a sweet love story between two characters who inspire each other.
Agreed!
it's a summer love, it's a love that both helped Sho and Arietty grow up. It wasn't a love meant to last, and it was impossible due to size difference, but the purpose of this love was to help them change.
i LOVE arrietty
Marnie is one my favs. It deals with a lot. It’s a pretty heavy movie. I loved the main character and her arc. The setting and mystery to it all really captured me too.
I looooved the setting a lot ❤️
Same! 💞
The sound track is great too, Priscilla Ahns songs were top notch
Yess yess marine was such a perfection for me
@@loonaoecit introduced me to Priscilla Ahn's music, and I'm so glad, because her music is great, and A Good Day wound up becoming my number 1 comfort album.
Same
My whole family got addicted and took over my watching while I left to get McDonalds and afterwards everyone had their opinions on it and were super engaged
I wouldnt say that. I HATED THAT Movie so much. I can't ever rewatch it. I normally agree with everything people say about Movies but this is not it.
did they like it?
@@rastyplayzzofficial my family doesn’t like magic but they said it was cute
Nausicäa will always be one of my favorites… the world building, characters, and environmental themes are just amazing and THE SCORE…. it really adds so much to the whole atmosphere and feel of the movie
AGREED
SO TRUE
Yesss it deserves so much more 💗💗
So nice to see Kiki’s delivery service at the top, so underrated I love that movie so much.
I agree with your opinion on Grave of the Fireflies and Howl’s Moving Castle, but don’t belittle Ponyo!
@@avamorvillo8745 I enjoy the aesthetics, but still don’t think the stories of Ponyo, Totorro, Arietty, The Cat Returns and Kiki etc. would be comparable to the other Ghibli pieces I mentioned, such as the Howl’s.
Grave Of The Fireflies is literally one of the best pieces of drama ever made, belittling it's quality it's nearly offensive, to begin with.
@@IBM-5100 I certainly agree with you
@@laleeeah that’s a fair and valid opinion.
I believe Ghibli is for any age! Thanks for watching my content 😊
I didn't even realise that the 90's were 25 years ago if you know what i mean....🤣🤣
How many days, hours and minutes has it been since you saw it the last time?
I recently watched The Wind Rises and honestly was not prepared for how much it hit me and how amazing it actually was. I love Studio Ghibli, I've never had a series of films make me feel so much nostalgia so easily. I don't know if i could ever truly pick a favorite, but at least my top 5 would have to be Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle In The Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Even some of those can change just because I love them all for different reasons.
Infinity staring Matthew Broderick has a similar plot. Seen it?
Personaly my rank is :
Perfection : Howl's moving castle, Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Ponyo
Amazing : Kiki's delivery service, Castle in the sky, Arrietty, The wind rises, The tale of the princess Kaguya, When Marnie was there
It's really good : Nausicaa, Totoro, Grave of the fireflies, Porco Rosso, Whisper of the heart
Fine I guess : Only yesterday, The cat returns, From up on Poppy Hill, Earwig and the witch
Not my thing : Ocean Waves, The neighbors the Yamadas, Tales from Earthsea
Although it hurts to see my all-time favorite Ghibli film "Grave of the Fireflies" in the burn-it category, I definitely hear where you are coming from! Here is my list for my top 5 Ghibli movies! ^-^
1) Grave of the Fireflies
2) Spirited Away
3) Princess Mononoke
4) Ponyo
5) Howl's Moving Castle & My Neighbor Totoro (those two always tie for me)
Cheers!!
Exactly
i 100% agree with this
It’s great for you to do this type of video, Monika. You seem to have a really great taste when it comes to movies, especially the Studio Ghibli ones. I hope you continue to inspire people to appreciate films.
Aw thank you!! 🫶🏼💗
Whisper of the heart and Howl's moving castle. They are my favorite movies, but if I have to choose between one I choose Howl's Moving Castle, when I saw the movie as a child I literally fell in love with magic and I also had a crush on Howl 'cause why not
Incredible video, we missed you💜
yesss why not hehe! i missed you guys too 💜
My top 10 Studio Ghibli films:
1. The Tale of Princess Kaguya
2. Spirited Away
3. Castle in the Sky
4. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
5. Kiki’s Delivery Service
6. Howl’s Moving Castle
7. Whisper of the Heart
8. My Neighbor Totoro
9. Porco Rosso
If you had watched the video and listened to what she said you would understand why she put it in that tier.
FINALLY someone else who realizes how good The Wind Rises is!!! I either hear absolutely nothing about it or, when people do talk about it, they don't appreciate it. One of my favourites for sure!
Have you seen Infinity with Matthew Broderick? Kinda similar.
IKR the movie is quite amazing! it made me cry but made me so inspired
Omg I'm so happy you finally made a video about this!
It was so so hard lol 🥲 i feel like changing some of my answers even now!
In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's one of my all-time favourite films, animated or otherwise
love all your definitions for each movie!
Princess Mononoke is my favourite also!
I have a playlist for anime music (99% Ghibli). The songs from Princess Mononoke are the most replayed ones.
The Red Turtle? It was one of my favorites!
5 stars: from up on poppy hill (romance drama?!), castle in the sky (beautiful), howls moving castle (beautiful yet funny), spirited away (strange yet intriguing world), grave of the fireflies (touching), Kiki's delivery service (makes me feel at home)
4 stars: my neighbor Totoro (relaxing), when Marnie was there (plot twisty and different), the cat returns (disturbing in a good way), Nausicaa (great message), princess kaguya (beautiful), whisper of the heart (nostalgic), the secret world of arriety (different from others)
3 stars: (all these good movies just not ones I found super interesting) ponyo, porco Rosso, the wind rises, my neighbor the yamadas, only yesterday, princess mononoke
2 stars: pom poko (I don't wanna see those moving around)
1star: tales of earthsea, ocean waves (nah)
My favorites are definitely Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa and Howl’s Moving Castle!!! I definitely think the first two are because of how much I connected to the characters of Pazu and Nausicaa!!! and Howl’s Moving Castle is just so romantic that I couldn’t help but love it!!!
Great choices!! Pazu and Nausicaa are incredible characters 💗
Pazu 💖
I really loved Whisper of the Heart too. I do think it needs more recognition though.
Thank you for suggesting me the Grave of the fireflies. I just watched it and when I saw you put it on burn it again I literally cryed. Your comment hurt me more than the actual movie. I think it has became my favorite. It's perfect!!
I always love to see the „whisper of the heart“- appreciation, it’s such an underrated masterpiece in my opinion, I adore that movie sooo much.❤❤❤
I think my top Ghibli movies would be Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Totoro, Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, and then tied are Howl's Moving Castle/Castle in the sky, and From up on Poppy Hill.
I def rewatch it the most and i cry everytime😅
Please put Grave of the Fireflies in “Not my Thing” rather than “Burn it”. Like- I can totally understand why you wouldn’t want to watch it again, or maybe even would never have wanted to see that, it’s a valid opinion, but I do think it’s a beautiful piece of art that deserves to exist. I know you didn’t mean the burn it category literally, and you explained that at the beginning, but still, it killed me a bit inside to see that
I am SO happy that you've posted AND that's it's a Ghibli video 😭😭 you're my comfort channel
happy you're happy 💜
I didn’t watch them all yet but here is my personal ranking of the ones I did watch
S-Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away
A-Whisper Of The Heart, Castle In The Sky
B-The Secret World Of Arrietty, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle
I have a lot of other movies to watch but I really love Studio Ghibli so much so far and I am glad to know that they exist. Ghibli > Disney. Also because of this channel, Ghibli ended getting me to love other anime movies.
As much as I have an appreciation and nostalgia for the big hitters like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc.
Porco Rosso really stands out to me and might have become my favorite.
porco rosso is definitely a gem
My top 5 studio ghibli movies would be
1. The grave of the fireflies
2. When marnie was there
3.The tale of princess kaguya
4. Spirited away
5.Princess monoke

Hey look red turtle got a mention!
Probably never gonna watch it. But know it exists.
from up on poppy hill was so melodramatic but i loved every second of it, and i am not ashamed to say that it is PERFECTION!
🤣It’s a good movie, but can you really call something perfect right after pointing out its imperfection. Does that make it a flawed flawless gem?🤣
@@harrihaffi2713 yes, it truly does. perfection doesn't have to mean 100/100, it just means it still is a gem despite being something imperfect
Grave of the Fireflies is perfection and so are Totoro, Kiki, Porco, Mononoke, Wind Rises, Kaguya and, especially, Chihiro.
My favourite is kikis delivery service, my comfort film
Thank you for sharing this ranking of yours, I was wondering what would be yours for some time now... ! My top five is probably Nausicaa, Howl, Kiki, Mononoké and From Up on Poppy Hill actually ! I also personnally really liked Tales of Earthsea too, I've watched it several times. Unpopular opinion I know. Whisper of the heart is very beautiful too... The choice is kind of impossible ! And I plan on rewatching all these movies, as one night - one ghibli, very soon so this type of videos gives me motivation ! (and sorry for my english, I'm a sleeppy french right now...)
Love your videos, great job !
ohhh a whole day ghibli marathon sounds so fun!
I have only watched the first 13 so far, also Arrietty & Wind Rises.
My top 5 so far.
1: The Wind Rises
2: The secret world of Arrietty
3: Princess Mononoke
4: My Neighbor Totoro
5: Nausicaä
6: Whisper of the Heart
The Wind Rises was my first Ghibli film. An it... just wow. Will probably always be my favorite.
I was actually somewhat disappointed with they're other films.
That's how high "The Wind Rises" set the bar for me.
Great video, Thanks 👍
Give Yamadas another chance ;) it’s my boyfriend’s favorite Ghibli film. It’s so comforting and tells a story of a family’s milestones in life in a funny and cute way
Saw it in October! It has some nice scenes.
So glad you rated whisper of heart that high, I ADORE that movie, it‘s just beautiful from beginning to end.
Cool!
Can’t say any of the Ghibli movies had that big of a impact on my life.
It's an 11/10
Fr, it was really amazing to see a popular folktale brought to life in such a beautiful way
I've enjoyed and been charmed by so many of the other ghibli films but The Tale of the Princess Kaguya just affected me on a whole different level.
Should have left Only Yesterday in Perfection. Now that I’m in my 30s that film really hits home for me.
Ah… maybe me being 35 makes it less relevant!?!
Huge ghibli fan but I was very underwhelmed the first and only time I saw kaguya.. maybe I just have to rewatch it.
Loved this video!! Top movies for me would be mononoke and nausicaa. Zero flaws
Hmm… seems like there’s a good chance you might like my ranking video…but not flawlessly good

My favs are: ponyo, the cat returns, spirited away, Pom poko, and the secretes of ariety.
Omg finally someone who likes ponyo! I recently watched it and i love it!!
I think that in princess Mononoke isnt really a villain. Its just a interessconflict of two sides and we can chose or even not chose. That makes this movie so perfect for me.
My favorites are: From Up On Poppy Hill, When Marnie Was There, My Neighbor Totoro, Pom Poko, Princess Kaguya ♡
Thanks so much for this great vid. I whole-heartedly agree with you on the perfection of Whisper of the Heart. Princess Mononoke is my absolute favorite, but Whisper of the Heart is way up there.

So happy you speek about "only yesterday", he really deserve better ! Really nice video, I enjoy the moment :)

Porco Rosso is one of the greatest Ghibli films I've seen, it is above perfection.
Pom Poko is underrated. I really enjoyed watching it and its message is also so educating.
It’s pretty similar to infinity with Matthew Broderick

Just finished watching Only Yesterday and I have to say I'm really happy I did it! It's a great movie which combines the present and the past in a really creative way. It also feels very real, very human. Definitely recommend 💛
I also love the cat returns! defintely a big part is because of nostalgia and how I loved it as a child, but I still love it and find it enjoyable and fun movie! I understand why others may not like it compared to Ghibli's others, but I always thought it was great!

Wanna see my ranking video?
ruclips.net/video/UjDDe-dZbqs/видео.html
For me, All Studio Ghibli Anime Movies is sooo good and i can't deny that but Whisper of the Heart is literally my number 1 on the list fr
I am more aligned with "fantasy/whisked away to another world" movies, but I don't mind some of the slice of life movies. With that being said here's my tierlist...
S: Howls, Spirited Away, Mononoke, Nausica, Kaguya, Lupin: Cagliostro Castle
A: Castle in the Sky, Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Totoro, Kiki's, Earthsea, Pom Poko, Yamadas
B: Fireflies, Arietty, Marnie
C: Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart
D: Ocean Waves, Wind Rises, Poppy Hill
E: Earwig and the Witch
Whisper of the Heart and Howl's Moving Castle will always be my top favorites 😭💜
Good movies.
This is one of the nicest reviews for Earthsea
😅
My rank would be :
1. Sprited Away (one of the best animated movies of all time in my opinion. This movie was absolutely magical, touching and meaningful. And Haku personality reminds me of myself)
2. Howl's Moving Castle (because i really like the love concept that this movie delivers)
3. Princess Mononoke (at first i thought it was a weird movie, especially with all the weird animal characters in it, but then i thought it was such a spiritual and beatiful movie)
4. The Wind Rises (i love how realistic this movie felt. It was almost felt like it wasn't an animation movie, it's just so mature)
5. My Neighbor Totoro (i just love kids!!! I love kids so much, i love watching them play, explore things, how they are so honest and imaginative, and i think this movie perfectly delivered that. I love this family type of movie)
6. Arriety (i love the set of this movie, growing up i always imagine what if i was a small fairy, and i could make a house from flowers and leaves, and having an adventure in human world)
7. Kiki's Delivery Service (this was such a fun and enjoyable movie. Just watching her having an adventure on her own, makes me really happy)
8. The Tale Of Princess Kaguya ( i love this movie so much, its magical like you said, but this movie somehow breaks my heart 😢 thats why i just don't want to watch it again)
9. Ocean Waves (i agree that the characters of this movie was really unlikeable and the story line was so bad, but there are some point in this movie that resonated with me)
10. Grave Of The Fireflies (Depressing! I remember watching this for the first time as a kid, i cried so much and it left me in a bad mood for a few days after watching it. But i have to admit that this movie was absolutely beautiful.
11. Ponyo (even though i really like kids, i don't know why but ponyo was a little bit annoying to me. i just couldn't explained it why but, yes it was a bit annoying for me)
There my rank, i only wrote till 11 because i haven't wacth the other movies.
Cool list!
Seems like you got just as many Ghibli movies ahead of you to watch as the ones you seen!
Here’s my list if you wanna know my slightly controversial opinion:
ruclips.net/video/UjDDe-dZbqs/видео.html
Very good and understandable tier list, you were very fair with all the movies while expressing your opinions.
As for my top 5...
1- Spirited Away
2- Princess Mononoke
3- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
4- Castle in the Sky
5- Kiki's delivery service
Isao takahata is my fave director of studio ghibli because of how much i love tale of princess kaguya and grave of the fireflies. He captures human emotion on a molecular level
Pompoko and Kaguya are perfect too
spirited away is above perfection for me
same!
For me nothing will beat Kikis delivery service! It's just a classic and perfection at that...not to mention all the characters in it are so likeable and the world building is insane💙💙😭🔥
Good movie. Drags a bit on the second half. Then suddenly climax!
For me it's Mononoke or howl's moving castle
Edit: Kiki is amazing though
I think Castle of Cagliostro is my fav Miyazaki number... listening to your list made me realize he did it prior to his Ghibli days.
My top five Studio Ghibli Movies would be Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Whisper of the Heart, Howls Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service.
*MY TOP 5 ST.GHIBLI MOVIES:*
1. Princess Mononoke;
2. Spirited Away;
3. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind;
4. Kiki's Delivery Service;
5.When Marnie Was There (Seriously Underrated) (In my opinion);
BONUS - Whisper Of The Heart.
My top 3 is: Kiki's delivery service, Spirited away and tale of princess Kaguya💓💓💓 Also, I think pink glasses look best on you💖
happy to see nausicaä high on the list; it’s my favourite film of all time!
the metaphors for nuclear destruction, the themes of animal rights and environmental protection, the plot, the characters, the colour scheme, the design of the plants and insects, and the absolutely incredible soundtrack all make it a perfect film to me :) 💙

Okay but like the cat returns is such a weird yet funny movie, I love how it feels like a fever dream. Maybe I just like it cause of my strange sense of humor😂
Didn’t much care for it on my first view, but last time I liked it quite a bit.
Think it made it to my top ten

So underrated Imo. Simple, cute and fun.
My fav is definitely howls moving Castle, I also really loved princess mononoke and pompoko
Only yesterday is just an underrated masterpiece। I makes country-home sick inspite of living in city since childhood
Kiki was my first Ghibli film. It went in a different direction than I thought, but I enjoyed it enough to seek out all the others.
My top 5:
1. Princess Monoke
2 Spirited Away
3 Howls Moving Castle
4. Castle in the Sky
5. Kikis Delivery service
Grave of Fireflies is perfection.
You missed two, "The Red Turtle" and "From Up On Poppy Hill" Anyway, here's my picks. No order.
Per: Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Arrietty
Amaz: Cat Returns, Ponyo
R Good: Kiki, Porco Rosso, Earthsea, Wind Rises
Fine: Totoro,
Not My Thing: Grave of Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, Pom Poko, Yamadas, Princess Kaguya, Marnie
Burn It: Earwig
My top 5 is;
1.From Up on Poppy Hill (imo it has the best OST of all ghibli movies)
2.Nausicaä
3.Kiki's delivery service
4.Whisper of the Heart
5.Totoro
Finally someone who loves Poppy Hill!
