the whole point of not depleting spirit gauge level during Iai Slash is if you successfully counter, whether it hits the monster or not -- the viewer at 1:02:20 possibly does not understand the point of the move

The hammer before iceborne you dont get a KO even if you beg for it if you want KO use the Bow it was the strongest weapon in high rank
