I have no clue why but during rendering a giant single frame of text pops up at 32:07... That's not in the editing timeline. It is a cute callback tho so
I love the line Lee has where he says "You lost that eye by running away." It sounds cool, but couldn't be further from the truth. Majima lost that eye by being so dead set on NOT running away that he had to be chained to a pole and tortured. I like to think that Lee was just taking a shot in the dark and hoping he hit something.
How he always says 'You don't know shit about me' always felt like him feeling true irritation over this whole set-up he just got involved in, to top it all of Lee says that to the guy
@@fwapkiwami The thing is I believe Saejima only got that outfit in 4, and he has never worn anything like that before. I also liked the idea of Majima perceiving him as his brother but first they don't do much with it and second Majima really wouldn't think if he didn't go to the future. I guess it's only symbolism for the fans?
@@ashleyy69 saejima wore a completely different outfit in 4, and he was given his current outfit by a hunter during his story in 5. Also he has fairly long hair in 4.
@@DrUSB Yeah I know, it's not the same model but the same idea. I believe he wasn't wearing that back then in the 80's is what I mean, so it most likely wouldn't remind Majima of Saejima.
“That doesn’t make it a neutral action, he was going to use acid.” That one took me a second. Wasn’t expecting a chemistry joke, but that was hilarious.
I love the trope-dodge in having Majima reveal pretty early on that he was sent to kill Makoto as a hitman, and she continues to trust him because he'sliterally just saved her. It's way too common as a trope to have the "Majima" in this situation keep that part a secret, then the 2 characters would grow close over time, then it would be revealed to Makoto later in the story that Majima had been sent to kill her, they'd have a row and she'd not trust him and storm off or something. Happens all the damn time in writing, and never feels realistic.
Yakuza always does the ''hidden motive'' well. At best you might have a suspicion but they never go for the low hanging fruit and usually subvert expectation. These guys can write a story QQ. But I was also happy they dodged that trope, it's so lazy and I hate it every time a story utilizes it lol.
I mean ive seen it work well....but that was because the man was literaly planning to eat her....so not telling her that makes sense when you trying to date the girl.....though during a fight he does let it slip....and the result is as you expect (Though hes a sorta zombie so makes sense.......boyfriend of the dead is better than it has a right to be)
Regarding Lee’s similarities to Saejima (though only just in their appearance) and the game not doing much with it, I think there is one parallel between the two of them, namely that the two of them had a long-trusted friend that betrayed them; Majima being absent from the Ueno Seiwa hit due to being unwillingly captured by Shibata and Lee’s doctor friend selling out Makoto to Sagawa letting Makoto and Lee die for money (Majima even pointing out to Lee that the doctor completely stabbed him in the back). However, despite how the doctor friend endangered Makoto’s life, Lee was _very_ forgiving towards him, choosing to split off from Majima and Makoto so as to get him medical attention in order to save his life and citing that this was partly caused by his own advice to the doctor: that as Chinese immigrants, they have to take every opportunity they can to get to acquire money in order to make it in Japan. Majima’s stance on the doctor was the same position he has towards his own unwilling betrayal of Saejima, that the price for betrayal is death and that Lee should just abandon him to a painful death of bleeding out from that crowbar opening up his ribcage. Despite that, Lee instead chose to be loyal to his friend and spare him from such a horrible demise. It might just be me, but I think Lee choosing to forgive his friend’s betrayal did have an effect on Majima to the point where he called him one of “the finest bastards I’ve ever known”, perhaps even giving Majima hope that on top the faint possibility of him ever meeting Saejima again that Saejima will forgive Majima for not showing up for the hit back in 1985.
''This is blurred and it's not beacuse it's getting steamy in here, it's just that after Yakuza 5 got age restricted for showing Milky, I'm scared of women'' That sums up why I love this channel so much. Your take on Majima was honestly fascinating, I never looked at him as a more awkward figure, and how his story revolves around flawed people, including him. That was beautiful!! I'm so excited for the last few chapters, please take your time and rock on!!!
I think that Awano scene could be salvaged by having that womans death being faked. Kiryu seeing through Awano's layers of bullshit and concluding it was a dumb ploy to keep his attention would explain his lack of a response. There doesn't even have to be any dialogue added, just have her lighting Awano's cigarette while he talks about threats not working on idiots while still clearly wearing the 'bloodstained' dress or something.
@@sometwithtoomuchfreetim3842 The expression "mi casa es su casa" (Spanish for "Mi house is your house") crossed with Sagawa's given name, Tsukasa, which is ironic because Tsukasa is the furthest thing possible from a friendly host to Majima.
There's a trick to filter which girls you get on the telephone clubs: the 3 "good" ones will call when a short-timed QTE appears, the 3 "bad" ones call when a slow-timed QTE pops up. Sakurako, the one that doesn't show up, is tricky, but I think she can call both on short-timed and slow-timed QTEs. Even still, you have to go through the mini-game and get the right answers in order to trigger the substories.
1:34:50 That joke made me burst out in laughter. The accent, the editing, the callous tone of voice, the implication of it, it's the stand out joke of this part for me.
I got a friend into Zero a week ago who knows nothing about Yakuza. So he was introduced first to black suit Kiryu. And it's funny, because he got to the scene where Kiryu gets his white suit and he told me “Kiryu in a white suit looks trash, black suited him better“ and I don't know how to explain to him that white suit Kiryu will be the standard from now on.
To be fair, 0 Kiryu's white suit is very much different to his usual one. I like how his outfits show his character journey in a way. Starts out in black as a yakuza, leaves the family to fight for his beliefs and in the process gets his white suit (which I'm also not that fond of) and at the end of the game gets his iconic grey suit on red shirt, showing he's returned to the muddy world of yakuza but as a man changed with his own code of honour.
Don’t worry Snake, even when you’re good at the disco Ogita is still horrific to do. I had to essentially become a disco god for his substory and I will forever dread having to do it again.
God I love Makoto so much. The devs really outdid themselves while writing her. I cared about her so much that I felt GENUINE hatred and disgust towards the man who put her through all of it... I'd fucking kill and die for her.
She made us all feel and live the qoute, "I have only had (Makoto) for three hours but if anything were to happen to her I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself"
I noticed when you talked about how desperate Majima fights around the 28 minute mark, it’s something I noticed as well, not as in how he plays but how his music sounds. Compare it to Kiryu’s, even his heaviest theme for beast still has a kind of lighthearted feel to it, like any one of them hypes you up for a fight. Now to Majima again, they have a much more serious sounding undertone to them, One Eyed Dancer highlights that the best I think
I can't really think of a series that plays with the idea of "super-badass stoic manly-man protag, changing the world one ass beating at a time" like Yakuza does. Kiryu is fascinating to me because, yeah, he's the badass lead. But he's not perfect, and he's never treated like that either. Where a lot of other things would never play with the idea of the permanently stoic lead having his relationships or even his day-to-day life being affected by his personality, Yakuza does, for story AND comedic effect! It's one of the things that drew me in to these games, and why I love Kiryu as a character.
Honestly the best part about the legend styles are their respective themes Say what you want about how effective they are but goddamn am I a sucker for Receive you remixes
I think my favorite use of Receive you remixes is how they set the tone of the various Majima encounters as he becomes a more fleshed out character. 0 gives us Receive You the Subtype, a brash and in-your-face rendition that almost sounds like sirens going off. It signals that the Mad Dog has been set loose, and the underworld will never be the same again. In 4 we get Receive and Bite You, a more frantic and unhinged version that sells the tension and uncertainty of Majima and Saejima's reunion. In 5 we get Receive and Slash You, an almost subdued and thoughtful piece that seems to reflect on the brothers' history as they share what could be a final bout. Then in 7, we get Receive and Turn You. This version just radiates sheer JOY, especially the opening. At this point in his life, Majima has WON. He's accomplished pretty much everything he wanted to: he's an immensely powerful man who commands fear and respect, has stood up for the people and things he believes in, and finally, FINALLY has his brother back for good. All that's left for him is to live his life and enjoy it.
I love this series you are doing. All of your videos about Yakuza are both funny and insightful. And can I just say your scripts are some of the most witty and memorable I’ve ever listened to. You rock dude!
These Yakuza videos you do are nothing short of phenominal. A gripe I have with a lot of Yakuza game reviews is that many people often miss or misinterpret the motivations or personality traits of characters as well as various story beats and sometimes just revert to the "Kiryu doesn't kill but I can stab a guy in combat" meme as well as all of the other overdone memes about the games. When I first saw your Yakuza 4 video, I was not only floored by how funny it was, but by how well you understood the characters and the plot beats. Your insight gave me newfound appreciation for characters or events that I previously disliked. I've seen 6 of these videos of yours and they still do not disappoint. Godspeed mate
1:41 "yume" isn't highlighted in a giant text -99999/10 would let Mr. Shakedown steal all of Tehsnakerer's patreon money for this nah jk, keep making banger vids, dude
Murder of the body isn't right. Murder of the spirit is encouraged in the yakuza. Because only the strongest will rise like a dragon back to their place. --Kazuma Kiryu, probably
The 5-boss structure of the side story questline really starts to drag in later games. By the time I start clean creator in Kiwami 2 and have to face yet another group of 5 evil businessmen I'm fucking snoozing.
I feel like near the end of the game, Majima really should have cited Nishitani and Segawa as his inspirations. There's such a thing as being inspired by a negative example, after all, and I feel like there was more going on in their relationship than with Lee.
Sagawa might be my favorite villain in all of Yakuza. He has more of a presence, he has a charming charisma, and you can feel the power he has over Majima constantly. I also love that you’re never able to fight him. In a series where every major character has fought another, Sagawa never gets that treatment.
You forget, saejima got the digs that he wears from 5 onwards from the hunter on the mountain. In 6, it makes sense while he is still wearing it, he just got out of jail and is wearing the clothes he entered with, but in LAD, he is just kind of wearing it because???
I have no clue how you manage to consistently pack your scripts so densely with zingers and manage to have such an insightful analysis run alongside them all while they flow seamlessly between each other, your videos and style are one-of-a-kind. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!
47:45 I feel the need to say that I once saw a CBR article titled something like “hidden easter eggs in DBZ only true fans noticed” and the picture they chose to use for it was that photo of Michael Jackson next to a picture of Goku holding a monkey. I don’t really have anything of value to say about it, I just think it’s funny
37:20 Even though I memorized the ladies and guest glass signs, I was too stupid to figure out what they actually meant until you pointed it out. It makes so much sense too so thanks for that.
Sagawa's speech on fugu being 100k during those times makes me realize how poor I am Also dear God the cabaret music slaps so much Keep em rolling Snake, I love this. Yakuza 0 is great.
I think a huge part of why I love the substories so much is because paired with the main story, it made me feel like I'm experiencing Gintama but as a video game, It's probably why 0 still remains my 2nd fav in the series despite being the first one i played
I was taken completely off guard when Trouble Shooting Star first played. It goes way too hard for something as menial as doing security fights, I love it. I almost expected it to be what'd play for the boss fights against the real estate kings.
I love Yakuza for being steeped in these universal human experiences and situations, things we can all relate to. 1:01:00 You can tell Snake's underwhelmed with a fighting style, when he cuts the music out of the footage lol
I'm going to have to watch this during the weekend trying to deal with life But goddamn so looking forward to it and this is one the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing
I knew little when I started Yakuza 0 but I knew majima was crazy thats it, when I saw Saejima I didn't know how big he would be later and I thought he would be more relevant in 0 but when I got to Yakuza 4 I wondered if Saejima would learn the truth in time before something drastic happened but to be in the know when I got to 4 was really cool because I felt rewarded for sticking through game after game when I knew 0 was made later
Hoi there, Snake. Been watching for a real long time, and I just wanted to let ya' know that I really appreciate all the work that goes into writing the scripts for these behemoths. I usually listen to your videos on my drive to and from work, similar to how one would normally use a podcast, and I frequently revisit your older videos. It's amazing to me that I can listen to the same videos over and over, yet continue to find clever little wordplays and puns I missed on my many prior viewings. It really hammers home just how much time and effort you must spend on writing and rewriting, and I genuinely think it's incredible. Keep up the great work, man. I mean that sincerely.
I really enjoy all the effort you put into these, and also find myself amused at your difficulties with the Disco minigame. I struggled against Ogita for three damn days straight, consisting of a dancing montage after another. After I managed to beat the rat bastard, I grew to love the minigame and more or less understand how the game lies to you a little bit. - Dunno if you're still looking into going after Amon in 0, but if you ever plan for another attempt, do not trust the visual ques of the minigame, only listen to the music.
I never really got proficient at the game, but sometimes the most challenging guy will have a ‘down’ session: one where he doesn’t score as high. I managed to beat him during one of those.
1:21:31 - There's still a crackhead side of me that thinks Ichiban is Nishiki reincarnated. From the voice actor, to the color of clothing, to the ink on his back. It's probably not true, but you going on about his performance in this scene just reinforces that idea for me.
I've learned from my mistakes and am writing my responses to things down here as they're said, but waiting to actually comment until the video is done so I don't make myself look like an idiot. Anyway; In regards to you making Kuze 2 too easy for yourself; if it makes you feel any better, Kuze 2 is pretty damn easy anyway. At least I thought so. This was my first Yakuza game, and I played it on hard, yet Kuze 2 was the only Kuze fight I didn't lose to at least once. In regards to Majima's respect for Lee; I had the same thoughts you did but came to see it as a respect for the way Lee chose to live, rather than the decisions he made. Lee was clearly a man who wasn't willing to let life take a hold of him, instead choosing to be the man that takes hold of life, and I think that's a big part of what inspired the Mad Dog, along with Nishitani's general antics and similar philosophy. In regards to Disco; I am a person who prides myself on my skill in rhythm games. I have FC'd Through the Fire and Flames on expert, I have King Crazy'd every song in the Persona Dancing trilogy including the DLC, I love rhythm games a LOT. That being said, Ogita and Isobe (the matching Disco boss for Majima) were hard even for me. I spent over 3 hours total grinding out both of those dance battles, that shit was insane.
Yeah since the Disco game, is barely a rhythm game XD If you're playing it normally, you'd have minimum points. and what makes it hard, you'd have to move faster than the beat around the "dance floor", while still needing to pay attention to it. imagine playing less notes DDR, but you have to freestyle between each notes. XD
Finally managed to sit down and watch this. All I really have to say is, as terrible as they may be, I *love* how both of the legend styles are a combination of the three other styles. Dragon: -The raw power of Beast -The footwork of Rush -Uses Brawler as a base Mad Dog: -Has the weapon proficiency of Slugger -The wild movements of Breaker -The speed and underhandedness of Thug Something that could also be considered a neat detail is how, over time, both Kiryu and Majima abandon the other styles to focus on refining the one that’s meant to combine the strengths of all three.
Kiryu is one of the best main characters in video game history, but yeah, he gets completely overshadowed by Majima in this game, to the point Kiryu seems like a plain character in comparision.
For me, Kiryu gets most of his development and intrigue "later" in the series. What makes Kiryu's part interesting is also contrasting it to the past games. In a demented way, this game is a tragedy for Kiryu where it begins his journey to what would be the ending of 5 and 6
I think we've discussed this in a stream somewhere, but I found Kiryu's money making mini game to be a slog. It had a hands-off approach to them and in the late game, where I just wanted to rush to get the 4th style the slog seeped in. In contrast to Kiryu's, Majima cabaret is hands-on, intuitive and I just love the music, of BOTH the mini games. After 3 attempts of making managing girls fun this one really hit the spot.
Should also be mentioned that Slugger gets really broken when coupled with other bats. The Patriarch's Bat is great early on before you get the ability that stops Majima's attacks from colliding with walls.
If you remember my comment on the last video, I only yesterday managed to finish my edication as a real estate tradesman. This video is like a congratulatory gift for me right now. Thank you very much. Now that we have talked about the business minigame I can actually make the joke that I alluded to in my comment on the first part. "Going from Yakuza to real estate, is that still character progression is this already stagnation?"
Honestly I just interpreted Lee’s similarity to Saejima as a development concession first and a symbolic callback last. Like they needed assets for a big dude who only appears for a couple of chapters and they figured afterward the parallels to Saejima would warrant some light albeit flimsy subtext for the long time fans.
I like how you mention the framerate thing with the minigame physics, it used to be a LOT worse. When Yakuza 0 originally launched on PC, playing at higher than 60 FPS would completely break the crane game, the crane just never stopped going down, spazzing out until it clipped through the floor of the machine.
One thing I found very noticeable while playing through Yakuza 0 - it being my first game in the series and being wholly unfamiliar with it - was that it was easy to distinguish between characters from earlier in the series and newcomers anyway, simply because of their facial designs. All the new major characters are or seem to be face scans with very realistic proportions, while all the older ones are like... They got a certain level of stylization to them from originating as earlier-gen face models.
I love these videos because Yakuza is my favorite franchise ever and these videos do so much of the games justice im just so happy I found this channel
The way the sidestories, business management layer, and character upgrade systems are intertwined is the number one reason why this game is such a masterpiece for me, and you nailed articulating that.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to say this, but 0 was my introduction to the series and, God, Majima's introduction made me instantly fall in love with him. I was almost a little underwhelmed by the Mad Dog of the later series! But what an intro.
"I hate how Majima talks sometimes." Same here because he doesn't. It's all on localization for that one and it hurts because being able to follow him when he talks in cutscenes, I feel like I can never trust any textbox tonally. It's that way with a lot of characters in the series, but Majima in particular got hurt by it a lot. Meanwhile, maybe due to the lack of connection to the regular cast, Judgement got hit by it to a point I couldn't stomach finishing that game since I really don't like the versions of the characters in the English text at all.
Something else I also don't like about the localization is what they do with a lot of names sometimes, biggest example is how they localized Yagami's nickname 'Tak' it's so unnatural nobody would actually call him that and that's also clearly not what the characters are saying
I really can't do it with the insistence certain JP-EN localizers have on giving characters with regional japanese accents these unbearable, borderline unreadable 'accents' in english. Majima just loses any shred of sympathy he could possibly gain for talking like this in the english version
Having recently completed Yakuza 0, one of my biggest complaints was how hefty the completion requirement was and how substories were handled with regards to the larger story. Early on I thought I could try and finish all the substories, but the telephone club really took the joy out of it once I figured out what was going on. That and the amount CP I needed to unlock the barriers for the legend styles meant I would have to do a bunch of gambling I really didn't want to learn. Even worse, less than halfway through the story I had done all the side stories I wanted, and I just rushed through the rest of the game. It might have been fine since I was never really distracted from the fairly complicated story. But I also feel like the game should have threaded the side stories into the main plot a bit better. Also, hearing that you didn't even get substory completion makes me feel better about my choice.
"--manager of club Moon, Tsukiyama (you get it?)" This is why I love your videos, and that's why I usually watch them more than once. You drop little details and wordplays that I just love to catch
Love the video but I believe you mentioned only breaker has a dodge grab at 2 heat but that's wrong. Kiryu has one as well in beast style but it's near the end and it also makes the shakedown fights far easier.
Beast is already super good, but that move actually breaks it to a hilarious extent. Since the big counter moves like the double piledriver and bear hug take heat (and I think need third gear), they stick you right back in range to toss somebody around, then get back up to third gear, rinse and repeat until boss is dead.
Yeah, those telephone club minigame substories can be frustrating if you don't know what to look for. But there are two sets of telltale clues to tip you off on which substory you're gonna get. One is the amount of time you have to answer the phone in the QTE at the start, and the other is the color of the bikini that the girl in Kiryu's imagination is wearing. There are three variations for the QTE as well as the same number of variations for the bikinis.
Fun fact is that this came out on my birthday! And I like both your content and the series, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this part come up here.
Awano Killing that civilian woman really ruined the ending of his arc for me. I get these are dudes who have all killed in terms of the main 3 bosses but that detail just bothered to a really strong degree.
The only reason I managed to complete Ogita's challenge is not because I was good at Disco, but because I picked a hardest difficulty dance that even his AI made mistakes. And you bet your ass I rubbed it in his face. I don't care that it was unearned, after 20 tries it goddamn felt like I've earned it.
I feel like Majima's arc in 0 is him becoming emotionally detached from the people around him. It got him in trouble with his own family and cost him his eye, it got him involved in the Empty Lot plot because he grew too attached to Makoto, it let Sagawa manipulate him and string him along, and at the end of it all, the only person left that he cares about is himself. I see his adoption of the Mad Dog persona to be him going "fuck it" and living life for himself, and only himself, using his eccentric persona to become entirely unreadable, so he can't get manipulated again like with Sagawa. In Y4, there's a sense of distance between him and Saejima, since Majima had just spent 20 years disconnected from everyone else, and just can't make that kind of personal connection anymore.
Wasn’t even paying attention to the time this was posted since I thought not a lot of people are talking about Yakuza anymore so I’m just impatiently waiting for more
37:07 you don't even have to remember those signals, if you wait a bit text will appear telling you exactly what to do, so I really don't see why someone would complain about them
I love your videos to death already but the fact you not only give special mention to certain music tracks and actually let some of it play really tickles the serotonin on my head. Though I'll admit I'm probably biased since it seems we have a similar taste in which tracks from 0 we like the most lol.
I appreciate how the first confrontation between majima and lee with them talking around the blind girl in the room is a big reference to John woo’s film the killer
Hey snake big fan, just wanted to say that I think the best way to beat Ogita is to pick hard. The AI seems to value steps more than keeping a combo meaning on higher difficulty they can mess up their combos quite a bit if you get lucky (because theirs more notes) which is how I beat him my first time.

“Mi casa es Tsukasa” is the kind of pun that should earn you a Pulitzer. I love it.
I'll admit I don't get it
@@sometwithtoomuchfreetim3842 The expression "mi casa es su casa" (Spanish for "Mi house is your house") crossed with Sagawa's given name, Tsukasa, which is ironic because Tsukasa is the furthest thing possible from a friendly host to Majima.
@@kgldude Ahhh damn that's good
@@kgldude This is lovely, thank you for the explanation. Seriously cool pun, indeed.
I honestly make that joke myself anytime I meet anyone with the name Mikasa and Tsukasa.....which means I make it mainly as an AoT joke
1:34:50
That joke made me burst out in laughter.
The accent, the editing, the callous tone of voice, the implication of it, it's the stand out joke of this part for me.
Gotta really stop to appreciate the work you put into even the chapter titles
I got a friend into Zero a week ago who knows nothing about Yakuza.
So he was introduced first to black suit Kiryu.
And it's funny, because he got to the scene where Kiryu gets his white suit and he told me “Kiryu in a white suit looks trash, black suited him better“ and I don't know how to explain to him that white suit Kiryu will be the standard from now on.
Explain to him first that he has shit taste.
I prefer the black suit too. Also his suit in the other games is grey, not white.
It really is a missed opportunity that a giant 80's cellphone wasn't available as a weapon.
Don’t worry Snake, even when you’re good at the disco Ogita is still horrific to do. I had to essentially become a disco god for his substory and I will forever dread having to do it again.
Too true. I beat Isobe on Hard easily and it still took me a while to beat Ogita.
And then there's me who actually thought he could beat Miracle....you can not, like it is actually in no way shape or form possible to ever win
32:08 "I find the phone being what gets him caught to be a cute call back."
Honestly the best part about the legend styles are their respective themes
Say what you want about how effective they are but goddamn am I a sucker for Receive you remixes
Part of me wonders had Shinada not cared about 'besmirching the name of baseball' in 5, would his slugger style be stronger than Majima's?
Considering he’s built like a brick-shithouse YES

Oh my god that's so perfect
I think it’s absolutely hilarious that in the JCC replacement in Kiwami, the girls can preform Saejima’s heat actions
The protagonists never kill anyone, yet they absolutely murderize their opponents in dance offs, pocket racing, and business.
Curious
Murder of the body isn't right. Murder of the spirit is encouraged in the yakuza. Because only the strongest will rise like a dragon back to their place.

What a line.
Was keeping "an eye out" for this part.
The 5-boss structure of the side story questline really starts to drag in later games. By the time I start clean creator in Kiwami 2 and have to face yet another group of 5 evil businessmen I'm fucking snoozing.
It's such a snorefest even one of the evil businessman general fell asleep in their intro cutscene
I feel like near the end of the game, Majima really should have cited Nishitani and Segawa as his inspirations. There's such a thing as being inspired by a negative example, after all, and I feel like there was more going on in their relationship than with Lee.
Doesn't he say that he admired Sagawa near the end?
@@harishramachandra1746 He did say he was tenacity incarnate. Though if I recall, right before he gets clipped.
it’s implied as all hell did you need him to say it out loud like some corny anime in order for smooth brained idiots to understand???
He does acknowledge them, and Lee during his talk with
Awano
@@slippy2315 He acknowledges Lee and Nishitani, not so much Segawa. He saves that for the very end of the game, right before Segawa is killed.
Sagawa might be my favorite villain in all of Yakuza. He has more of a presence, he has a charming charisma, and you can feel the power he has over Majima constantly. I also love that you’re never able to fight him. In a series where every major character has fought another, Sagawa never gets that treatment.
You sliding MCOB into the background right after saying "Misery comes on-beat" during the disco segment is genuinely such a good idea lmao
Man, the quality of your writing is so incredible. You throw out witty comments constantly making it absolutely lovely to listen to.
You forget, saejima got the digs that he wears from 5 onwards from the hunter on the mountain. In 6, it makes sense while he is still wearing it, he just got out of jail and is wearing the clothes he entered with, but in LAD, he is just kind of wearing it because???
Uh....Shhhh it just looks cool
He looks cool while wearing it and that's probably the only reason Saejima needs to wear it
He knows he's in an RPG and that outfit must have good stats.
Well, he's actually dressed in slightly sifferent clothing in 7. He just liked the duds and got himself his own.
I'm going to have to watch this during the weekend trying to deal with life
But goddamn so looking forward to it and this is one the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing
Honestly this series of yakuza vids are what got me to get into the franchise more, and this review is making wanna replay 0 once again
It's probably not true, but you going on about his performance in this scene just reinforces that idea for me.
wasn't it confirmed via Word of God aka the Producer?
@@TheGoodWillSpreader was it? I dont remember
Nishiki and Kasuga were both living on the same Earth for quite a few years.
Ichiban's a symbolic reincarnation of Nishiki, not a literal one.
I've learned from my mistakes and am writing my responses to things down here as they're said, but waiting to actually comment until the video is done so I don't make myself look like an idiot. Anyway;
In regards to you making Kuze 2 too easy for yourself; if it makes you feel any better, Kuze 2 is pretty damn easy anyway.
I really agree with your thoughts on Lee.
I believe Majima respected his will and not his actions
Yeah since the Disco game, is barely a rhythm game XD
If you're playing it normally, you'd have minimum points.
and what makes it hard, you'd have to move faster than the beat around the "dance floor", while still needing to pay attention to it.
imagine playing less notes DDR, but you have to freestyle between each notes. XD
Finally managed to sit down and watch this. All I really have to say is, as terrible as they may be, I *love* how both of the legend styles are a combination of the three other styles.
Dragon:
-The raw power of Beast
-The footwork of Rush
-Uses Brawler as a base
Mad Dog:
-Has the weapon proficiency of Slugger
-The wild movements of Breaker
-The speed and underhandedness of Thug
Something that could also be considered a neat detail is how, over time, both Kiryu and Majima abandon the other styles to focus on refining the one that’s meant to combine the strengths of all three.
In a demented way, this game is a tragedy for Kiryu where it begins his journey to what would be the ending of 5 and 6
@@redline841 I think thats the main issue playing 0 first. I feel Kiryu is pretty bland in this game and his story isnt as interesting as Majima's.
The noise Majima makes at 12:01 is so adorable, I've lost count the number of times I've now tapped back to re-watch it.

I love this edit, I love it so much. It hits so hard
Your videos single-handedly got me into the series and for that I sincerely thank you.
This video was great, Snake! Very insightful and all the jokes hit me like Kuze hits Kiryu in the sewers. Amazing!
Unbelievably hyped to watch this later tonight :)
Watch it RIGHT NOW, you coward
The way the sidestories, business management layer, and character upgrade systems are intertwined is the number one reason why this game is such a masterpiece for me, and you nailed articulating that.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to say this, but 0 was my introduction to the series and, God, Majima's introduction made me instantly fall in love with him. I was almost a little underwhelmed by the Mad Dog of the later series! But what an intro.
so glad you shouted out ZENTA for his amazing work on Kiryu and Majima's security battles! Some of the best

Look at Yuki standing over there, in that white dress-
"I hate how Majima talks sometimes." Same here because he doesn't.
"--manager of club Moon, Tsukiyama (you get it?)"
This is why I love your videos, and that's why I usually watch them more than once. You drop little details and wordplays that I just love to catch

I was just re-watching the first part a few hours ago, great timing as always
I have a lot of trouble understanding the plot of these games and these videos help me understand what I just played so thank you Mr Snakerer
Love the video but I believe you mentioned only breaker has a dodge grab at 2 heat but that's wrong. Kiryu has one as well in beast style but it's near the end and it also makes the shakedown fights far easier.
Unless you get legend style then you get the grab counter. I wish I got to see that move more but Komaki got dibs
@@redline841 That's a counter. These moves you have to perform a quickstep then grab.
Beast is already super good, but that move actually breaks it to a hilarious extent. Since the big counter moves like the double piledriver and bear hug take heat (and I think need third gear), they stick you right back in range to toss somebody around, then get back up to third gear, rinse and repeat until boss is dead.
@@nerdyvids1
Reminder to get drunk and try out maxed out Brawler against shakedown. A billion damage and the grab counter trivializes him
Just gonna mention it, the dress up music for the cabaret stayed in my head longer than it should. XD
Majima made an incredible introduction to newcomers like me.
Fun fact is that this came out on my birthday! And I like both your content and the series, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this part come up here.
God watching this video reminded me how much I loved 0 and its story.
Awano Killing that civilian woman really ruined the ending of his arc for me. I get these are dudes who have all killed in terms of the main 3 bosses but that detail just bothered to a really strong degree.
Here, take some engagement to go along with the stellar work. Now it's just a race to see if I can finish 100%ing 6 before that vid is done.
Good luck! You've got plenty of time
The only reason I managed to complete Ogita's challenge is not because I was good at Disco, but because I picked a hardest difficulty dance that even his AI made mistakes. And you bet your ass I rubbed it in his face. I don't care that it was unearned, after 20 tries it goddamn felt like I've earned it.
This 110 minute video just flew by. Amazing work.
Wasn’t even paying attention to the time this was posted since I thought not a lot of people are talking about Yakuza anymore so I’m just impatiently waiting for more
37:07 you don't even have to remember those signals, if you wait a bit text will appear telling you exactly what to do, so I really don't see why someone would complain about them
Miracle johnson as an advisor is surprisingly the best cheat item in the yakuza series.
You are my favorite RUclipsr, fav accent and type of humor
Damn part 2 already? Loving every bit of this, honestly can't wait for playing Yakuza 0 to finish just so I can binge the entire thing.
