Back in the late 1970s, I worked for the Fisheries and Wildlife of Victoria, Snobb Creek Fish Hatchery and was involved in introducing Salmon into Lake Purembeet.
My Grandmother was born near Mt Elephant, and it's a place I've always wanted to see. Thank you Mark, for this stunning video of so many of these beautiful dormant volcanoes many of us didn't even know existed!🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰😍
Thank you so much for the feedback. I love revisiting these locations they just amazing in our backyard, so to speak. I do have a couple of more videos on my channel of these dormant volcanoes I hope you enjoy them also 🙂🙂🙂🙂
I lived around these a lifetime ago and I regret not paying them enough attention when I had such easy access to them. I even installed the GSM equipment in the base station cabin on Mt Noorat and that view was breath-taking.
Nice footage, spectacular view's of these craters, we just visited Tower Hill and Warnambool, stopped at Camperdown, went up to Mt leura but didn't see the others, went past Mt elephant but road was closed.
With Mount Elephant, it's only open on a Sunday it's worth the walk up the hill and some magnificent views from the top. And by the way, thank you for your comment
They are all on private property, but in saying that there are walking paths on most, but some are a distance away, so they can only admire with a drone from the air 😊
Would love to see these dormant volcanoes next time I am down in Vic. Amazing camera work 😎😀. Imagine if these volcanoes came back from their long sleep 🤯
Mt. Franklin, about 9 km North of Daylesford in Central Victoria, is a terrific spot. There's a campground and picnic area in the centre of its long-extinct crater. You can drive from there a little higher to the North rim, for spectacular views of Northern and Western Victoria. There's also a fire spotting tower in the North crater rim.
Thank you for your comment. I have captured that dormant volcanoe in another one of my videos. Check out the link below. ruclips.net/video/MgnxQyvRuDI/видео.html
The dormant volcanoes with no names....I realise you have named them in your description above....but still, on screen naming would have been far more convenient. Other than that, beautiful photography, fascinating views.....thanks!
They are all in Victoria, Australia. Check out the description google maps locations. All worth a visit. I also have an updated video of these dormant volcanoes. Please check it out and thank you 😊
i lived in and around the area for decades. been to all of them: * side note: i also witnessed a "large" black cat at Mt rouse while cycling up it from about 10 metres away. not a panther, but rather an abnormally large black feral cat, probably about 4-5 feet in length.
374 million years ago a large area of Victoria was a super volcano that, at the very least, was a large part of the Late Devonian mass extinction. These lovely little blips are the last vestiges of that event. 70% of all species on Earth went extinct as a result. Australia, punching above its weight, again.
@markatmelbournefpv yeah, I'm in West Aus, do people mine for diamonds over there. Apparently they form in volcanoes. Often wondered that with mount Gambier also. Me, I just will visit for the scenery. Dig the photography too, awesome. ☮️😎🇭🇲
@markatmelbournefpv ah yeah cool, I actually meant to say fossicking, like over here people fossicking along dry river beds for gold.. Also I had only ever heard of Mt Gambier as an extinct volcano in Aus. Glad to have learnt something about our country. Cheers
This is Geelong.. I've driven past, always knew there was something different with those mountains..it's in land, bout 30 ks back from the ocean.. starts at Inverleigh goes towards Colac. It's another way to get to the great Ocean road, we just call it. Going the back way.
The real science has yet to be funded and completed. The "Victorian Traps" may well become as famous as the Siberian Traps and the Deccan Traps as causes of a mass extinction. The Late Devonian extinction coincided with Victorian super volcano eruptions. They are now dormant because Zealandia has torn well away from the Australian Continent.
I realise that the prospect of yet another big bang is a quite enthralling one - unfortunately, I live on the slopes of Tower Hill in Koroit and it would rather disturb our peace and quiet without mentioing the discomfort suffered by the birds and extensive Fauna who would be rendered homeless.
There is also Mount Schank in SA, it’s much smaller than Mt Gambier. I’ve gone past Mount Elephant a few times and around that area there used to be Neolithic stone circles etc, but the early settlers destroyed them
We’ve concreted over the one on our farm in case it ever erupts, although we fear the igneous gases and lava will probably just pop up somewhere else as a result.
I don't think it's as widely known as it should be that most of Victoria and into the eastern side of South Australia is the third largest volcanic province in the world. The gold miners were very often digging down through lava flows to get underneath to the ancient river beds containing gold concentrated in the ancient water courses. There's also much more gold buried deep in the ancient rivers underneath volcanics remaining where it was uneconomical to get to it than was ever recovered.
Mt Franklin, just north of Daylesford is a beautiful camp ground. Pretty sure it's free also. We'll and truly worth the 2 hour drive from Melbourne for a weekend away.

@@slipperyjoines6629 you can go up all of them. only mt elephant is gated, and they let you in on sunday.
Very classy production, compliments.

Amazing. You can just imagine them all smoking away while dinosaurs roam the landscape.

Beautiful footage, well done!
Thank you 👍

Thank you Colin. It's a nice part of Victoria worth a visit.
vry nice photography. i would be nice oif you told us which was which as you went though, and where they are.
Thank you check out description
The whole east coast has many old volcanic areas, on the farm at Bundella, I use to find pieces of volcanic molten rocks, some petrified wood too.
So I have been told it stretches up all the way to QUEENSLAND

On my next visit and video to these dormant volcanoes. I will take your request on-board thank you for your comment 🙏
@@markatmelbournefpv On screen naming would have spoilt it a bit.
Wow @0.55 look close! What great place to fly my friend. Jealous! Thanks for the overview. Can tell how the hot spot moved due to plate tectonics
Thank you
I believe these volcanoes were part of a chain that formed due to hotspot, not tectonic plate boundaries.
@@gaperiott Hot spot plus tectonics. Ozgeographics has a great recent video on it. ☺️
Looks like gold to me
Thanks, Mark. 😊
Would have been nice to know where they were but other than that beautiful work. 👍

Really enjoyed the video and the scenery was beautiful. I only know of the Mt Schank and Mt Gambier dormant volcanoes in South Australia.
Thank you
Wow epic landscapes Mark - well shot 😙👌
Thank you
Beautiful footage. Maybe you could put up the name when a different one starts.
Good idea! And thank you

Sehr geil 👍
I have visited a few times, spectacular.

Most of these locations are North of the Otway Ranges around 60km a list of locations is in the description
I live in Ballarat but I am wondering which ones these are please? I know Warrenheip is dormant though. Beautiful imagery and video ❤️
Thank you. Mount Elephant and Noorat are the best ones to view.
4.05 - Can anyone tell me please where this place is? Would love ❤️ to visit it.

Did Australia ever properly study these volcanoes, like are they really dormant or had gone extinct?
Yes they done studies that is where I have read about these dormant volcanoes

Gippsland also
Would be good to know the names of them so I could visit them
You can find a list of locations in description hope that helps
the entire South west region is dotted with them from ballarat to the south coast and across to mt gambier.
I was born not far from there in Casterton, just over the SA border there are more like it, Mount Gambier is actually built inside a volcano crater
It a magic area i have yet to film around Mount Gambier but its on my list. Thank you for your comment.

Hi David, thanks for your comment. I would love to know where your dormant volcano is. I would love to fly it with my drone.
The first one is in SA
All of these dormant volcanoes are in Victoria
