And today is the day we celebrate the 50th birthday of the elevated EL, with the R1/9 and BU Gate cars.Today was such an amazing trip, and I hope you enjoy this journey. I find it neat how even though they are electric trains their sounds sound like a steam train! The little whistles, the "chuffffff" sound they make when they stop or start to move, etc.

I do enjoy watching the Gate Cars beating the hell out of the sluggish R160s.

In response to the person that said they are the same as SF, the wooden train ran on Brooklyn EL lines and uses third. rail of 600 VOLTS. The ones you thinking of are called cable cars and are pulled by underground cables and have battery for use of headlights and interior lights for night. The chug chug sound are air compressors for the brakes and doors. I rode on the old steel subway trains back in the 1960s.

It’s actually the 50th Anniversary of the end of Myrtle Avenue El Service. But a great excursion nevertheless!

The BU subway car was one of the very first cars that came out in 1907 which was known as the "Brooklyn Rapid Transit". It uses the same exact set of trolly cars like the one in San Francisco did.
