"and I'll sing once more" had to be particularly moving for Dame Julie. Her botched throat surgery was in 1997 and this performance was in 2001, when people still hoped her voice would be able to come back. I think she was crying because she was moved but also because she knew she'd never be able to sing that again.

  • @tashmivyas

This is probably the best tribute to this legendary lady...the Sublime Dame Julie Andrews.
Even just her introduction calls for an applause, and she recieves multiple standing ovations🙌.
The current heavyweights (at that time) of Broadway honouring the legend of Broadway.
Julie was so touched by all the performances, especially when everyone sang in chorus "And I'll sing once more" she was moved to tears and i can totally understand her state of mind.
An Icon, an inspiration and yes she is Our Fairest Lady and My Favourite Thing🙌💕💜
P.s - I wish they had sung one song from Cinderella, Star, Victor Victoria and even Throughly Modern Millie as well, also ppl always tend to overlook her brilliant dramatic performances in Hawaii and Duet for One because her musical performances have been more memorable.

This video just proves how MUCH better Ms. Andrews really is in every way possible. What a pain to see singers with accomplished careers on stage struggle with the same songs Ms. Andrews so effortlessly sang for hours, days, years and decades. What a loss for us not to be able to hear her glorious tones. Just look at how spastic the singers singing I could have danced all night, it looked like her vocal chords were gonna smash right through her chest. Then we have the intense wobbling vibrato.

how legendary was julie andrews? most artists of stature would be honored only with songs the artist was famous for performing. but in this 'thank you' to her career, half of the songs here were actually sung to her character in the movies/musicals she's most remembered for... i haven't seen all the kch shows, but i have seen a lot of them and i think that was-and remains-a unique performance i've yet to see repeated.

Julie’s soprano was so soothing and warm whereas most of the sopranos on stage were a bit too high for my ears. Julie must have wanted to burst into song with them like she almost did with Carol Burnett! To this day, even after all her success, she is always humble about her talents onstage and screen with shyness and reticence, saying, “I was just lucky.” The only Dame who is deserving of sainthood!

Quite saddened to hear of her vocal problems, but it didn't stop her marvelous performances! Glad to hear that there may be some progress on the vocal front, but it doesn't stop her from being an ultimate performer!
