    Please keep comments respectful and civil. I know there are a wide range of opinions and complaints about the past campaigns. I am not a representative of FLYOS games. I am more than happy to chat about any specifics in the comments as long as the conversation stays productive.

    How far are you in the game? It feels to me that some of you who carry the positive tune towards errata haven't even get through 1/2 of the game. Even more of you are still lingering around the prologue and early chapters - which are perhaps the easiest and smooth experience, except the Hecata prologue stage 2 which is just broken and without errata lol. As we are nearing the final 6 or 7 chapters of the game, we're so tired of the constant errata matching activity, plus a few unclear instructions without errata just completely broke our spirit. We just say, F- it, we passed that check, or we passed the stage, move on. Get to the next stage, finish the game so we can pack it up.
    Errata aside, the story is quite superb, as far as Vampire the Masquerade universe goes, but it's really hard to get immersed into the narrative when you're constantly reminded to check the errata as you flip the books back and forth. Not to mention the tiny nuance of the possibility of spoiler on the errata sheet, especially when the next line says COMBAT BEGIN in capital letters when you don't exactly expect there would be a combat.
    Anyone who's backing for the new updated 2.0, I can only envy you because you'll be able to enjoy the experience that was meant to be. While we, the 1.0 backers were the game testers, that we had to pay Flyos to test their games for them. 🤪🤪

      I think this is fair - we have not made it to the end of the campaign yet and the errata does seem to get worse the deeper you go.
      The main hope I have is that they get it right this time and with Werewolf - the game system and storytelling is a lot of fun.

    I have played a good chun of the game, both solo and with a group, and the erratta has never really bothered me. As noted in the video, just check at the beginning of a chapter and when a specific error pops up. The app is a great idea to futureproof the project.

    This game is sitting in my basement on a shelf, waiting for the physical errata or I may used the finished app. I did back the update pack. Looking forward to playing in the distance future. Many of my initial wave of backs from 2019/2020 have errata and updates during reprints. I am actually waiting for the following updates. Vampire Chapters, Tanares, Stars of Akarios, and Isofarian Guard.

      Yeah people pretend like this is the only company that has this issue... It's basically every large game. In addition to the ones you mentioned there was also Gloomhaven, Oathsworn and KDM.

  • @CicconeRitchie1
    @CicconeRitchie1 3 месяца назад +3

    The biggest issue with this is that a lot of people simply don’t know of this errata. Just because you bought a board game doesn’t mean that you are into the community like this channel and many others. There are over 700 backers of this update pack on this new Kickstarter. That’s 1/3 of the combined number of backers. That’s a lot…….
    This game is gonna be incredibly expensive because of this needed update pack.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  3 месяца назад

      Yea, the lack of easy access knowledge is for sure an issue. That’s why this is such a big deal - if you don’t know about it - it can ruin the game.

    • @raider363
      @raider363 Месяц назад

      Well, you don't need to buy the (I agree quite expensive) errata pack. You can get stickers to cover up and correct the components for free. A lot of backers like myself are just getting the stickers and wouldn't be in that 700 number.

    • @CicconeRitchie1
      @CicconeRitchie1 Месяц назад

      @@raider363 For sure👌🏻I’m just saying that 1/3 of the backers for this new KS are actually ole backers buying a new product because the product they backed is broken. That’s messed up.

    • @CicconeRitchie1
      @CicconeRitchie1 Месяц назад

      @@raider363 For sure. I really don’t think the criticism this game gets is overblown. The game is broken and that’s a fact. How one deal with that fact is individual. When are those stickers gonna be available?

  • @fbarbirato

    I'm sorry but enough playtesting would have caught all the game breaking errors. I'm not talking about typos or things like that, but how can a chapter be unplayable from the start? How does that happen? If they gave the final box to a few players and asked them to play the campaign all the way through and report back any errors. Or even played the whole thing themselves, i mean they made the game right? Being a first game creator doesn't excuse that. Look at a game like Dungeon Degenerates, or even Gloomhaven. All made by two people each. Are they broken on release? What flyos did was gamble on the backers finding the errors and reporting them early, aka working for them for free as playtesters. They had the errata website even before the game went out to backers, so they knew what they were doing.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  3 месяца назад

      Yea, I agree with you that the much of the errata could have been caught by some simple quality control / playtesting being done before going to print. However, it was not - so now, what do we do going forward? I think the game is wonderful, I hope that FLYOs learns from this first mistake, and I am looking forward to the new methods to access the updatred content.

  • @raider363

    Appreciate the video! I have a copy but have been afraid to start because of all the errata complaints. TBH I also have a lot of other games I could play and not much time to play. This really makes the errata seem like not too big a deal and I'm glad I've kept supporting the company... they seem committed to making things right in the end.

    I don't know how many Errata this game got but Frosthaven also suffer from Errata and those are sometimes also severely affect the game and with such a big publisher I left feeling like they didn't do a good job and even were neglective.
    Especially when thing can tell you to open envelop X or place sticker Y on the rulebooks but those number were wrong and should have been different numbers. That can ruin the game if you don't notice them.
    Luckily Frosthaven have more of a narrative connection between things that happens so when you open and envelop or place a sticker and it doesn't seems to make sense thematically we know it's probably wrong and check the Errata.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s easy to miss some major things as a game develops! It makes checking errata for any longer / narrative game important.
      I didn’t know about the Frosthaven stuff!

    • @Gtomer
      @Gtomer 3 месяца назад

      Definitely.
      It's just if I compare it to video games it feels like the game is full of bugs and broken at times because of those errors.
      The video games community would have butchered such a game in their reviews.
      For such errors to be QA all they needed is to go through the story one time and see that it doesn't point them to the correct sticker.
      So it's disappointing but I get it that mistakes are bound to happen on such large projects.
      Did KDM have any such errors and needs for errata or did they take their time is also to make sure such things are not happening in their game?

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  3 месяца назад

      KDM is a unique example that almost no one could replicate. They raised more money than anyone, they took longer than anyone, and they have a active shop continuing to provide income.
      Also, in the video game space . . . anything Bethesda puts out is packed with bugs. I would argue that updates and errata are more common in that space than ours.

    I've played the hole campaign as soon as I received it. I've used the errata. It was very easy to use, usually a couple of minor things to take into account before each chapter. Most people complaining about it is people that haven't played yet so they don't really know how easy and minor inconvenient it is. I'm goad I've backed Wherewolf too.

    Luckily i have not started my copy of the original. Like many im upset errata is required but have come to accept it as a necessary evil in most games (may gateway game was Arkham horror LCG and that has 26 pages!! of errata and thats owned by a huge company in comparison to Flyos). Its good to know the errata will all be free on the app as that is more likely the tool we will use to play the game and we can cast that to a screen for all players to see without having to pass around books or tablets (leaving the books in pristine condition). I am still backing/buying the physical copy so i have the completed version in the box just because i like to have it all correct. I understand why i have to pay for it if i want flyos to still be around to make new games as well, the price does feel like more than "cost" as i recently purchased the Isofarian Guard errata which was cheaper all told especially shipping but i dont know enough about the manufacturing and shipping industries to make an informed opinion so take it on faith this is true.
    Honestly the thing i find most upsetting is the 2.0 comes with a shiny new box and organiser im not getting. Make the new box part of the update pack!

    I'm frustrated with how late Chapters was, coupled with how poor the playtesting and proofreading was. Most of these errata would have been caugjt by anyone either playing the game or anyone who could speak English.

    Yeah I think all the anger is largely overblown. Frankly the boardgaming industry tends to be very harsh on people and companies sometimes and there's a huge tendency to try and cancel them by angry previous fans. Companies including KDM, Flyos, & CMON, all get a lot of hate, some of it deserved and some not. It's one of the newer and more disheartening parts of the hobby and has led to myself disengaging a lot more from the hobby online.
