In order to avoid relegation, they essentially needed to win all their upcoming matches since they lost to teams generally considered lower tier like Eunited and rogue. But against all odds, they did, sweeping NRG, the first ever battle of 2 world champion teams, as well as ghost and Pittsburgh knights. I remember watching those games being in absolute shock how much cloud9 bounced back

The only reason I remember this series is because I was just getting into RLCS and I loved Squishy since he's Canadian. This was the first series I ever watched live!

Honestly I remember watching this live and having couple tears of joy as it was happening because I knew I was witnessing a historical moment for Fireburner and the Rocket League itself.
It's worth nothing that C9 went on to sweep the next 2 series they played (one of which being NRG) to make it in to the playoffs for NA, granted they did lose but the fact that they made it to begin with was mind blowing
Fireburner subbing in worked so well because no one prepped, VOD reviewed, strategised or even knew how to play against a cloud 9 team with him on it. It worked simply because he was there and he knew his players so him joining in a way was actually a huge advantage
This video has such an old sunless feel about it, I love it! And I love to see documentaries of Cloud9’s small but nevertheless impressive and cool victories towards their end

I remember that day, and it was fucking glorious. It was so sad seing C9 doing so bad for so long. When fireburner subbed in and got them the win it was just so perfect
These story times are the best content. Sunless should do like weekly Saturday tournaments with like a 50 dollar buy in from teams and then he could have more tournaments to create more content like this. And then actually teams would compete in those tourneys cause the payout would be good.
The increased access for teams and players is great, but I can’t help but miss the league play structure. I watched the first season of the new format and enjoyed it initially, but now that I’m out of college and have a full time job, it’s a lot harder to stay on top of it with the more spread out format. There was definitely a feeling that the old format had gotten stale, but it was easier to follow and was a much shorter season overall. I’ll always be there for the world finals, if nothing else.
Sunless bro you do so much for RLCS. Videos like this really got me into the pro scene cuz they teach you so much if you haven’t been following the whole time. It really feels like I’m watching a big mainstream sports documentary. I love rocket league.

Great episode! I legit thought this was gonna be about how the season format went from amazing to baseketball style. (If you watched the movie you know what I mean). Too many tournaments, too many games, it’s all just too much. Even the studio setup back then was better. I started RLCS season 9 so I had no idea it used to be that way. I thought it was always the format they do now. Which imo is absolute shit. The amount of games these players have to play in one day is insane!
