Can I ask a question? is it okey to copyright a song even if its still a DEMO (a song demo recorded on a phone ) then after a year I produce and record it profesionally, do I have to copyright the profesionally recorded version of the DEMO again? do i have to do it twice?
Few questions, if may I: - Are music compositions considered “published” when uploaded to RUclips ? - I didn't fully understood the difference (& why it is important) between collection of public works & collection of unpublic works ? If I uploaded to youtube my music- how do I consider it ? public ? why is that important ? - If I already uploaded to youtube my songs, I can register them all as one collection ? - What if you make a mistake, unintentionally, filling the form, you will not be eligible to get your claims in court ? - What about variations of music ? if I make different mixes to every song (mix to youtube, mix to itunes ect...)- should I register every variation again & again ? Thanks for the info !
Can I add songs to an already registered album? Let’s say I already registered a compilation of songs but after one month I have a new song that I want to copyright it in the same album. Is that possible or I have to pay for a new copyright registration? Thank you.
So i already have the copyright without copyrighting it? I have a mixtape that has 20 tracks my own beats and lyrics. If I post it without copyrighting it on the website. ( since you said I already have the copyright by law) would anyone be able too steal my beats or lyrics without getting in trouble ? Btw Thanks man
They could try and steal it, you could take them to court, it would just be a lot harder to prove you are the creator of the content. It is way easier to prove ownership if you actually have the paper work. But, yes, you own whatever you create, even if not filed.
Hey man. Love your content. Question: Do you have a vid dealing with how indie record labels register music/ albums for copyright? If so, could you please provide link? Thanks in advance!
Im writing the lyrics and another person is writing melody but he is giving me full rights to it. Does his name have to be on the copyright. Do i have to get a contract from them that they sold it to me. So i copy write it first for 35 dollars then show it to musician then melody and lyrics copyright again just incase the musician tries to steal my lyrics.
Thanks, but.... what if I say upload a you tube video of me doing one of my songs and say someone else sees it and says wow those are good lyrics and tune and then does it themself or sells it to a big name musician and they then take off with it?
I am looking to copyright a song that a couple friends helped produce (I wrote and recorded my lyrics, but two others made the beat and mixed and mastered.) My manager also wants the song copyrighted under a music promotion company he owns. However, the copyright process is very confusing when it comes to registering all the authors along with the music promotion company. Should I speak with a lawyer before copyrighting?
This may seem non-sensical to many. But the difference between registering or not is that even though copyright attaches the moment you finish a song or other creative work, the copyright cannot be enforced unless it has been registered. If somebody rips your work and you haven't registered the most you can do is send a 'cease and desist'. If you decide you need to litigate you must first register the work then proceed. This is from the lectures of R. Polk Wagner, Professor of Law, University of Pennsylvania Law School.
I'm interested in the deal you have for the ebook but I'm having trouble trusting the site it's not as straight forward. Maybe send me a link to kindle I have an account and would feel more comfortable to purchase there thanks.
Greeting Sir! I'm interested in the E-Books I think I've mentioned this before please let me know something I want them both, however, I'm having trouble trusting the site I'm being directed to Thanks
Hi, I put out a 10 song cd on cd baby 15 years ago...i never copyrighted the songs..(it did not sell well)..now i am coming out with a new cd.....should i copyright it now separately or just add the tunes to the new copyright? Thanks for your help. Wayne
hey great vids!! i was wondering .. whats the copyright fee for an entire album ? is it still 35$ or more ? (and yes entire album is mine.. no other artist worked in it)
So it's much cheaper to wait and compose a whole album instead of registering one by one song. That's pretty hard but it's worth it I think.

Yes! You can do that.
What if all of us agreed to evenly share the co-writing and copyright as well as all income for one entire 11 song album?
Is the fact that a song is already on Spotify, RUclips etc, proof of copyright?
Suave Goddi just here to Say... Good Work Torrio

For sure get a contract saying he gave you full rights.
If a guitar player collaborated on a song or two, are they co owners of the song?
Yes, if that is what you both agree on.
Great info ...Thank You so much.

If I also did the album artwork, am I going to have to copyright the album artwork separately?
You can, but if you did it all yourself, you are the copyright owner regardless.

Should you copyright your album cover art?
You can if you feel the need. Like, if you did a nice drawing as your cover.
Music Business Advice yea it was just a thought and I always wondered if major artist copyrighted there album covers
In Downloading my 13 songs 10 of them got error messages. They were Aiff files should they all be MP3s?
What if 1 song is a Cover Song that you have received the rights to? But the Whole album is written by you...
