I'm from Spartanburg, and I am old enough to remember when the trees hadn't grown up along that steep grade - the one we call the Saluda Grade - and you could see straight off the right side as you came down the side of the mountain... the views were great.
Beautiful scenery + amazing video edit technics + well chosen music = unforgettable road geek video .... Added to playlist+favorites and liked ... Thanks Jim ;) You're the king of this stuff !
Bravo! That was great, thankyou so much for the ride on one of my favorite stretches of highway. I used to live off of SC Hwy 11 which was the next exit you were approaching at the end of your video.
I love that entire area from Asheville down into Upstate SC. I lived in the area as a kid. This video makes me want to move back. The area is built up enough to have everything you need, yet you don't feel like you're on a treadmill as much as in a bigger city.
Wow I can't believe I've never seen this video of yours. It has gotta be one of my new top 10 favorites Idk what it is but this just looks like an amazingly fun drive. Not to mention the weather and lighting came together great in this clip.
This was such a pleasure to watch. I could just feel the elevation changes and the curves, watching his. Those Appalachian Mountains seem to have a never-ending supply of fun roads to drive. Interesting song, too...I just downloaded it for my own enjoyment.
I take this road all the time, but the stormy lighting and early spring scenery are beyond compare. Notice how it looks earlier in the season in the North Carolina mountains, but when you come down out of them into South Carolina, the green is more intense. That is a wild ride down the mountain, and quite curvy too! Nice driving music.
I enjoyed this video, as I do all of your videos but, this one touched my heart as it's heading to Spartansburg. My fiance drives from Greenwood to there to fly out to San Diego. Bless his heart. Soon his drive will be from Greenwood to San Diego. Wish I were with him so I could film it! LOL!
Traffic always backs up going up the hill near Saluda on I-26 on Labor Day weekend when I go home to Tn from the Shelby hamfest. Trucks can't make it up that hill and back up the traffic. Always take my cb radio to see what's going on. Gets in the high 90's in that area. Makes for a long drive.
Great Video I Know That 74 From I-26 In Columbus To I-85 In Kings Mountain The Stretch Once The Shelby By-Pass Is Completed Will Be Renamed I-326/Or I-226 Or I-426 I Pick I-326 That's A Great Name
I love this song ever since I first heard it on American Dad. Delta Spirit's California is also a pretty good song for a Video. This is still an awesome video.
Thanks, glad you liked it. I actually had a few more miles of footage, including your exit but I had to chop footage off the front and the back of the video to make it "fit" with the song.
I've driven on this bit of I-26 at night, and I can confirm, it is not fun. Extreme fog. To make matters worse, the trunk of our car (I was with my mother) wasn't closed properly, and a couple bags of her luggage spilled out onto the freeway.
I have a question... I just came from a trip to the Smokies, going from Tampa to Knoxville via I-75, then to Asheville via I-40, there I visited the Chimney Rock Park and then came down to Tampa via I-26 through Columbia and then I-95/I-4. I saw that the prominent mountains ended just in the border of the NC/SC and expected to see some hills but as soon as I hit SC, I could not see any major mountains again. I remember years ago I went through the NW via I-85 and could not remember well but I think I did not see any major mountains there either, . Does South Carolina have any major prominent mountain? Living in Florida were the highest thing is 300 ft high I certainly noticed that Northern GA, Tennessee west of the Smokies and SC are not flat, but the prominence of the mountains only covered the eastern tip of TN east of Knoxville and the western part of North Carolina.
There are some mountains in the far NW corner of South Carolina and north of Greenville along US-25 but no prominent single mountain I can think of and nothing like those in NC, GA or TN.
+Freewayjim nothing to see????....um the mountains!!!!!!....and i actually just found a video going from spartanburg area of landrum going to tryon and asheville and there plenty of scenery once ur in landrum....
+David Marino There's OK scenery once you get to the NC Border, but the last 18 miles in SC? no...and once you've driven I-70 in Western Colorado you get a different sense of what "mountains" really are. This is I-26 from the border to Asheville. ruclips.net/video/LqDXDLfAoYg/видео.html
Absolutely love your channel, keep it up please. Thank you for making all of these, I am fascinated by them and the idea of traveling. Take care
Thank you for watching and for the kind comment.

Beautiful countryside. Incredible lighting. Haunting music. My favorite of your many fantastic videos.

Thank you, it's an OK drive, decent for the southeast I suppose, glad you like it!
That ride was truly beautiful, with all the vibrant colors and everything. Amazing upload!
I saw this in the YT formation and I had to watch it again. Your all time fav of mine!
Glad you like it, rare lighting conditions for sure near the end.

Great job as always!! Really enjoy your videos.

half of that greenery is still in nc as it takes awhile to get to sc after you go down the mountains
Excellent video. Reminds me of here with all of the twists and turns coming from Flagstaff to Phoenix.
I got to say, you have one of the best travel videos.
The stretch that you hit at about 4:10 is my favorite part of that drive!
LOL!
Awww, glad you liked it Tracy and even more that it made a personal connection.
Nice way to end the series! And again just the perfect song. Thanks for explaining it before I asked! Now plan the next trip!
Nice work, Jim. I've been pondering filming this road in the opposite direction this fall as part of a bigger project. Thanks for the ride...
i love it the lighting was great for this one
Amazing colors in this video. The freeway reminds me somewhat of Germany or Belgium, long lines of trees with little view to the surrounding area.
Thanks, it was amazing in person.
Very nice ride and a very nice video once again.
Very nice, perfect time to capture a video!
Ha! Ha! LOL ^o^. This one is for Ashevillians. Where does Batman go in North Carolina? "To the Bat Cave, NC" I TOTALLY GET IT!

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the ride!
Lovely lighting. (Edit: I swear I typed that in just before I got to the caption about that.)
Thanks!
I'll bet that drive in Autumn is unbelievable!
Thank you, I greatly appreciate that!
I love this song ever since I first heard it on American Dad. Delta Spirit's California is also a pretty good song for a Video. This is still an awesome video.
+Erica Michelle Razorvol Thank you, I used the My Morning Jacket song in this video to a better result IMO. ruclips.net/video/1D85tuyh40I/видео.html
Thank you!
WELCOME to SOUTH CAROLINA indeed!!! love my home state, love this video of course I take 25 to Greenville...lol
Thanks, it is a fun ride.
Thanks, glad you liked it, hope you get the opportunity to film it westbound.
Thanks, glad you liked it. I actually had a few more miles of footage, including your exit but I had to chop footage off the front and the back of the video to make it "fit" with the song.
I fell in love.
Thanks, and I agree.

Alfred! You had one job! One job!
Brilliant cloud and sun conditions.Yes the camera does do it justice!
Thank you very much!
Nice going!
Thanks, mine too!
Yes, they are out there.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy a nice trip!
LOL, thanks, glad you liked it!

Amazing video. Not unlike driving in parts of New Zealand.
Thank you, no that's the last video for a while, I don't have any new footage to work with right now.
I'm Impressed! :-)
Very true!
Awesome!
Thanks, it really was we kept filming for another 10 minutes just because of the light, although the road was nothing special that point.
Looks like one hell of a fun ride. But I agree, I'd hate to try to do this at night. Too many twists and turns.
Really Good Video. Will the next video will be in Spartanburg or Greenville, SC?
I always get a little sad when things start to flatten out after leaving NC.
This is from 11 years ago and the traffic pattern has gotten worse! The construction will never stop. 😂
Me too :)

Very interesting, and I really love the soundtrack, it's really chill for a relaxing drive like that. :D
I'm not a truck driver, just out taking a drive.
Have driven it many times. Kinda exhilarating watching the video.
Thank you!
+Freewayjim I-26 is too narrow like 77, 40 and 95
Downhill grade of more than 6% for interstate is quite rare.
spartanburg sounds like something from the spartan city of sparta from 50 BC to 400 AD durning the greek times
This is I-75/85 South in Atlanta.
storm up ahead of us on the main interstate highway.
Thanks! Yes US-25 is definitely shorter to Greenville :)
jim, what would happen if you were filming, but then all of a sudden the car in front of you crashes?
Is there a video from spartanburg to nc?
+David Marino No, there's nothing really to see in those 18 miles.
+Freewayjim nothing to see????....um the mountains!!!!!!....and i actually just found a video going from spartanburg area of landrum going to tryon and asheville and there plenty of scenery once ur in landrum....

+David Marino Now there are some real mountains on I-26 north of Asheville. ruclips.net/video/0VQef4j-4Dg/видео.html
+David Marino You want mountains? here. ruclips.net/video/qDgu9Bw3-QA/видео.html
What city are you in on the intro?
It's fun going down the escarpment at 4:08.
I think North Carolina has the best mountains! Haha
You obviously have not been to Colorado, lol, check this out. 13-60 Season Finale: I-70 in Colorado - King of the Mountains
thats just cause you cant drive or have a bad car. turns are fun
No, my camera does not have that capability.
I'd have it on film....not sure of the context of your question.
I'll pass on that thank you.
1:27 Bat Cave!
do u like being a truck driver
I live in exit 67
