Live on KEX....band starts playing
Ivan Fabila She said "take it away"...they really took it away...
+Ivan Fabila The studio recording sounds like real music and is much more enjoyable.
I love both their studio sound and this live performance. "Hare Tarot Lies" is one of the best shoegaze/dream pop/rock songs of the last decade and I like the slightly sped up tempo of it performed here. Awesome band.
I knew their recordings would be difficult to reproduce live so I appreciate what they've done, actually I was surprised they even play live. Love these songs.
No Joy from Canadá??
LOVE THEM. But I agree with some other comments.... they seem to have trouble recreating their recorded sound, live. She needs a chorus and/or delay pedal, and she needs a lot of reverb or doubling on her voice... and also, vocal harmonies. Where are they??? That's the No Joy sound, to me...
what a sad thing... so disappointing...
This is constructive criticism, yes
I’m happy for Jasamine if she’s happy. I don’t know what happened to the “band” but I definitely prefer old no joy to new no joy.
I miss LAURA 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
This will forever be my favorite No Joy lineup and More Faithful my favorite era. I still love the band even though it's only Jasamine now but yeah.
One of my favorite bands ever, I was so happy to see them on KEXP but like a lot of other comments, I agree it's not them sounding their best. I can kind of tell they were maybe nervous? Jasamine especially. They just need to get out there more and work on their live sound. Wouldn't hurt if her bandmates would back her up on some vocal harmonies. It was still a good performance otherwise, they are a perfectly heavy and melodic sounding rock/shoegaze band and I absolutely love them! No Joy FOREVER!
damn was expecting much more after hearing their recordings. :[ still got love for them tho
This is a really good live performance. If you want them to recreate the record, then just listen to the record. Have a nice day. Cheers!
Just found this band from a friend love from Seattle
love them from Montevideo
I love this band, but I kinda get the feeling that they can never get the sound they would like to achieve live. Maybe it's because of the same thing why shoegaze was criticized when it first started: a very, very produced studio sound that was almost impossible to recreate outside of, except if you were Kevin Shields & Co... This time they sound far better than the last, you could see the frustration on their faces through the whole gig then.
moriamortem Wait, how can you all agree with this? It's just live music, of course it sounds different, hell the live version feels less produced and more real and in my opinion better. And they're just edgy they're not frustrated.
moriamortem i saw MBV, No Joy, Ringo Deathstarr, Curve...some great shoegaze from various eras and im going to see ride and hopfully jesus and mary chain.
anyway....the sound of all those bands was not the same as studio but i could see that about every live act ive seen
miked4309 I think we can all understand that live sound is very different than studio sound, which is by all means a good thing; it offers dimension to the band itself and makes possible to see other sides of it, to understand the concepts behind: why they make music, what are they trying to transmit. What I was trying to point out here is the fact that is possible to be aware when a band is comfortable and satisfied with their performance, which I think is not quite the case neither here nor the first time this band performed on kexp. You can tell by the band's behaviour, the look ont their faces and the struggle throughout. I still think this time they got it better than the last, they seem to be enjoying themselves so much more than before. Anyways, have fun at the concerts, I'd like to see JMC too someday...
moriamortem well said. i think this performance is better than the first time for sure. i think live music is the best thing ever. especially being there.
i am most excited about seeing speedy ortiz on a cruise at the end of the summer.
moriamortem speaking of live music...i saw Charly Bliss and they are one of the funnest bands live ive ever seen. such a great show.
wow finally a band that isn't a giant billboard for fender
Might have turned out better if there was better use of vocal effects, delay, something.
epic performance
I love this band! Love their EP!! I know they are doing so great!
Imagine if the audience knew what music her sister Alissa makes like "...And Their Eulogies Sang Me To Sleep" they would start throwing holy water on Alissa and call an Exorcist
LOL..right? or the music that code orange makes. they also play in a band called adventures and some of them play in another band that is like folk music. three totally different genres.
didnt expect to see this band here
Sunny Day in Glasgow's live on KEXP had the right vocal reverb No Joy needed. Still good though!
love that band
love no joy!
wow ! what a sound !!
This is awesome! Love it!
Ma gurls i love y'all nice songs
love it love it evol ti evol ti
i saw them this past winter and it was amazing. between each song was tuning and a wall of fuzzy haze. kinda cool. yeah its hard to get that same studio sound especially for such a dreamy layered sound.
but it was amazing and i will see them again and buy all their music.
Lo máximo!
don't know why so many people are complaining, this sounds amazing as long as you're playing it loud enough
w-o-w!!!!!!
El bajo, y EL BAJISTA LPM 🙈💓
Do they have their own sound engineer or is this a KEXP engineer? Vocals need way more reverb/delay.
This must have been the KEXP sound engineer mixing the session. This is not how they sound at all. WAY too clean. I saw them in Peterborough at The Red Dog, and during the soundcheck the fellow at the soundboard couldn't make sense of how they wanted to sound either.
Does anyone know what guitar the leas singer is playing?
that bass player is a dreamboat
Good band. Wonder why they didn't use vocal effects and harmonies. Its the only thing that was missing.
This performance was hugely disappointing for me. I love No Joy and when I saw them live in 2015 they were amazing. This doesn't do them justice.
I'll try to find this performance...
the voice should be more in the back mixed in with reverb
Always unfortunate to see an amazing band look so pissed off because they just don't get it to sound like they want it.
I love their records and clips, but this is one of the saddest KEPX performances ever
What is the brand of that green guitar?
lejoe48 Ibanez Artcore Talman FTM60
Peter Morphose Pretty. Thanks.
Well at least they`re funny, and "remember nothing" still sounds pretty good.
i have that long sleeve blk. alien shirt....cool
anyone know the bass the bass player is using?
+Walter White The Ovation Magnum....
It's odd; I first heard them live in '11 and it was really good, but this leaves... a bit to be desired.
Is that a Ghost shirt I see?
4:00 that camera man though)
Sounds like My Bloody Valentine on dope, it's cool though.
The singer looks like the female version of Nathan from Wavves.
Bad mixing. Amazing band, their recordings are awesome.
heavy pedals
Great shoegaze band.
Dreadful!
Good music. They seem obnoxious. I wish I never heard them speak. Then again. Whatever. Still good band.
Who am I anyway
Good shit tbough
