I hope it's been helpful!
Woww... That was super useful! I'm junior artist working on basic pose to pose kinda show... And I'm learning at home with some personal shots and exercise.... And making it organic is always interesting to me... Please make more of these where u explain in detail how things get improved from layout to blocking to blocking plus to splining and finally to the polish in single shot... Sometimes my experience doesn't allow me to see those details in breakdown of a shot... So this was really good for me.... Thank you so much...!
Offsetting is the key, but I think that you have lot of experienced, and when you get your first job, Did you feel nervous about that you can't complete your first animation
That crood animation with the heavy lifting is good hmmn I'm sure Disney or Dreamworks etc.. would give a test like heavy lifting. But this is different not just your typical student heavy lift he's also doing something else while trying to show something heavy. I think I'm going to check out this movie hopefully its' on netflix.
Nice now I know how to use offsets to lead the eye and to have more beliavable movement but I am also scare because I lIke to hit everything on the same frame for more snappy cartoon look still I guess I can use more offsets as I desing the movement like in the Crooks example. It looks like offsets are more heavily use in character acting and subtle action not so much for games and cartoon.
A method I use is pose to pose and then go into the dope sheet in maya or the graph editor and offset different parts of the body. Would you recommend doing this?
Does this channel have actual videos capturing the workflow such as showing the actual dope sheet and graph curve manipulation or is it pretty much showing animation examples and explaining what’s going on? As a casual beginner, I understand the spoken concepts, but seeing how to actually get the concepts accomplished would have been nice.
Thank you JD, another great video! Love those Maya examples especially! One question... Do you use weighted or non-weighted tangents? Thanks so much bro!
Ya-Ting Bai I did! I show the process here: ruclips.net/video/Z8e9dt_cTVE/видео.html which is for Maya 2020. In my next tools video I’ll show how to do it for previous Mayas.
Thanks! And depends on the action you want to convey. Chances are no if for instance the head leads the action it will move at different speed than the chest which, etc.
@@jeandenishaas Thanks for replying me Sir, knowing you as a great animator but also a great teacher, I have something in mind that needs your advice. I am a student of 3D Animation, I used most of my time animating but It just get bored sometime during the day, my mind just wandered, I knew that I need to animate more but I just didn't want to. I have an idea to leverage my free time by learning new skills like Modeling, Rigging, Scripting, Drawing maybe a new language to reset my brain, and also expand my horizon. My question is simple, If you were just like me, bored during the day works and you decide to learn something new that benefits you in the long run as an animator. What skill would it be? Thanks in advance.**English isn't my mother language, I hoped you get my idea.
@@ThanhVo-wc3tm I get the idea and don’t be sorry! You’re awesome for knowing multiple languages! When it comes to other areas, I really want to go back and learn how to draw. I also love rendering and making things look cool, sound design and editing I love as well. Learning Japanese would also be cool. 😁
@@jeandenishaas Thanks for your sound advice, It was my honor to receive such cool advices. And yes Japanese sound really cool... I did not anticipate you listing Sound design, I thought that you need to be somewhat prodigy to produce any types of sounds. My pick today is drawing since it's cheaper and easier to start. And again thank you for your time and experience, your work here on this channel is great Sir.
Hi Jean-Denis, what style did you mention at 11:44, "...super cartoony, POCOYO..."??? :) I'm not a native speaker, so I haven't got what you said. Thanks!

This is a gem, just when I was polishing my animation right now, and saw the notification, thank you Jean-Denis
Vickk Mure You’re very welcome! Great timing!
This series keeps getting better and better. The examples you used were great. Shame theres only a couple more episodes left.
ak2010utube Thanks a lot!
And don’t worry, I have years worth of material to show and I haven’t even started with demos! (coming this summer!)

Another great FNA video, thanks JD. Can't wait for the next one, stay safe.
Bricen Gorai Thank you very much! And same!!
That's cool but how does work mechanically, aren't the keyframes becoming more chaotic and harder to follow?
Depends on how comfortable you are offsetting keys. You can also build the offsets into the poses instead (or mostly).
Sir...i watched your video til da end! and will aplly it to my animation
😁👍🏻
Offsetting is the key, but I think that you have lot of experienced, and when you get your first job, Did you feel nervous about that you can't complete your first animation

Thomas Muslmani Absolutely! Many people do that. I create the offset in the pose, but sometimes go into the graph editor as well.

One question... Do you use weighted or non-weighted tangents? Thanks so much bro!
Simi Papi Thansk a lot! And great to hear!
I use non-weighed tangents. I don’t do that much work with the curves, it’s mostly done through posing.
Did you set a hotkey for show/hide curves? I wanted to add a hotkey to do that but didn't find the option in hotkey editor though...
