    I have owned one of these for 7 years now and it stands as one of the best made multitools i have owned, you can literally feel the quality every time you open a tool or deploy it. One thing i i will add though is don't try and open it one handed by flicking it as you might with a Leatherman, since the machining tolerances are so tight that you may end up with play in your plier head.

    I'm a big fan of Victorinox fit and finish, excellent design and overall quality. If you want a tool that will hold up and get the job done and last a lifetime, they are one of the best IMHO. I don't have the Swiss Tool X, but I do have the Swiss Tool Spirit. I like the smaller footprint and it still has all the quality tools, fit and finish and excellent design of it's big brother. You'll hate the sheath that comes with it though as it has velcro closure, (slim profile though). I ended up replacing with an American Bench Craft leather sheath with snap; like you, I have found velcro doesn't hold up over time. Good review. It's hard describing the "feel" in hand; something about the Victorinox just "feels" right, from rounded edges that don't cut into your hand when you use the pliers, to having all the tools accessible from the outside, and of course, the locking mechanism for each tool. Good job conveying that sense of quality.

      Victorinox swisstool has always been superior in build quality and fit and finish compared to leatherman.
      But if you try the new free p leatherman series, you realize that they have kept the leatherman qualities such as the pliers and the blades, and have combined them with Swiss precision and build quality.
      The freep4 / p2 is the first leatherman that surpasses victorinox in terms of build quality, precision, symmetry and tolerances.
      Everything is perfectly finished. The mechanisms have great precision.
      Each instrument returns a sound feedback on opening and closing which gives a feeling of great quality.

    I’ve had two of these for 20 years. They both have serrated blades and no scissors! When I saw your scissors I felt a pang of jealousy. But then I remembered how useful the serrated blades are, and I played that old game of asking which tool would I give up to get scissors? The file? Hell no. The saw? Not a chance. Ah, the only option left is the straight blade - which is of course indispensable.
    So, how often do I need scissors? Turns out I don’t 🧐😎😜
    Thank you for sharing
    Peace

    I have had mine for over 20 years! So I agree with the “timeless classic assessment.
    Unfortunately I dropped it yesterday and for the first time have an issue with it: the scissors got bent and won’t close now. Not just not close for the scissor function, I can’t retract them into the tool! I have emailed the company in hopes we can keep this tool going another 20 years.

    Do think the nylon sheath is just a US thing? In the UK I’ve bought two Swisstools over the years, the First was when the original came out with the two blades in a leather sheath which lives in my van and the other with scissors I bought about 3-4yrs ago and that too came with a Victorinox leather sheath...

    I think it would be ok for diy use or for fishing etc.but in the constructions surge is the king. While wearing gloves i can open all tools and i dont mind if they all come out because i spread them like holding deck cards and choose the tool i need. I dont think this is possible with a victorinox. Only for bear hands usage. Also surges beefy pliers can take lots of abuse (everyday extreme use from me) . They cut 3.5 mm fence wire and nails like its not even there. I do carry a victorinox farmer x as my edc but for work leatherman surge is my right hand tool. Also the removable metal file has diamond side and if you remove it you can sharpen the knife blade on the spot.

      GearsNTools exactly. Imagine a Victorinox set up with flickable pliers, full size outside accessible knives, driver, and saw (they could do it just like the SAKs where they offset the tools facing opposite directions just a bit, and then since their plier head is shorter than Gerber or Leatherman they need less track length for the pliers so they can actually fit more tools inside or on the outside. If they can squeeze a godawful amount of stuff into the Swisschamp then making such a multitool should be a piece of cake for them. Then make the cutting blades from 14C28N steel so the edge lasts longer and is still easy to tune up

    It only says POUCH or sheath made in Mexico. The language is clear. The pouch is not the tool, and that is, really, the only issue. I have a SwissTool that is 22 years in use. Still tight, and 100% functional.
    Frankly, my Leatherman Supertool, and Wave of the same age, have gotten a bit lose, though are in working condition. The Leatherman pouches are not in great shape.

    • @gearsNtools
      @gearsNtools  4 года назад +1

      in your opinion what is superiors about it? i've had good luck with most of the name brands. my experience has been the Victorinox tools are less likely to chip or break but don't hold an edge as long while the Leatherman & Gerber Tools have better edge retention but it's easier to break the tip off them.

    • @radiowardenclyffe
      @radiowardenclyffe 4 года назад +1

      @@gearsNtools Exactly that! my Lm wave has been back twice and my gerber legend and 600 both have chipped drivers Victorinox keeps a better balance of toughness and hardness and the edge retention is fine for normal use also it is a joy to sharpen.
      The HT on the pst was fine, not sure what went wrong, as my swisstool is 18 years old and does not have any damage it is my most trusted tool, i do have the latest surge but have not worked it yet so time will tell.

      @@gearsNtools Nothing abusive, I am a carpenter so the multitool just allows me less trips to the van or toolbox, consequently it gets used a lot rather than hard.
      The Gerber legend is the worst, the drivers are like porcelain and the tungsten cutters shattered whilst cutting a panel pin down.
      Maybe the victorinox will slip rather than chip due to the polish on the drivers?
      I would love to know Gerber and leatherman's heat treatment procedures as I suspect they are doing something "innovative" like partial hardening with no tempering, something ain't right particularly with that Gerber, any ideas?
