As primarily a fly fisherman, I'm all too familiar with matching rod, reel, line, leader, fly. It's a matter of necessity when a balanced outfit is essential to even just casting. Now, because of that, I definitely check my spinning rods weight range when selecting lures. Although I will go a little heavier and haven't had anything break yet.
thanks for teaching nice video ..i need to ask if i have lure 5 grams with rod 10 to 30 grams for lures can we add sinker more abiut 5 grams to reach the mini cast weight and how the distance can but the sinker from lure ? i'm beginner with rod fishing can you help please
My question that I can't find too much info on, does the lure weight also apply to my max inline weight size when fishing with just a hook and nightcrawler setup? Been using a 1/2oz inline weight and just noticed the other day that my poll is only rated up to 1/4oz lures.
OK. So I understand the LURE weight as it relates to casting distance. But I don't understand the line weight issue. What does it matter if I use 10 pound line on a rod that says 4-8 pound line? (just an example) Is it just casting distance? I mostly use downriggers in very deep water (80-300 feet). I seldom cast anything.
@@daytonsmith8910 It all depends on the rod dimensions too their all different, I have a 7FT MH Tsunami Carbon shield II rod that’s rated for 1/4- 1oz so sometimes it just personal preference
@@daytonsmith8910 Yes, but it also depends on what type of lures you’re throwing too, if you throw lipless or Crankbaits you want something with a more softer action because you’ll be pulling the hooks out of the fishes mouth. Usually with those type of lures moderate action rods work best.

I know this video is older but my question is does the "lure weight" actually mean(bait casting) the weight of sinker PLUS bait in total. I.e.rod is rated for 3-8 oz.So I use a 5 oz sinker PLUS 1 oz of bait for a total of 6oz. I ask because I have friends that insist I am wrong. They would use an 8oz weight PLUS bait.I can see it in the lack of distance in there casting but I though I would ask a pro.Thx
I bought a bull bay banshee rod MH rated for 3/8-3/4 and like to throw the slam shady on a 3/16 jig head. Comes out to just under 3/8. Think it’s anything to really worry about?
This is very helpful. Unfortunately, im using the ufish 150 rod with lighter lures, now I learned that that's not a very smart idea. Any tips? I think I'll just stick up with it, it's alright. Also im definitely not a serious fisherman, i just like to be in nature
Probably not. However, check out the full blog on our website and leave your question there. That way, our team can respond directly with their recommendation. You can find it here: bit.ly/2VDSOAx
i have a shimano zodias and a shimano vanford 2500 with 10 pound braid its rated 1/8-7/16 i cant even cast a 1/8 lure past 50 feet. i think the rod is over rated

When u say little heavier.. Is it like almost double the max recommended weight?
Very helpful, exactly the information i needed. Thanks.
I have a 10-30g rod and want to use a 29g lure, will that be fine or will it cause issues since I’m pretty much using the max that my rod can go
Thanks for sharing this important info. I now write the weight of my soft plastic on the packets just for peace of mind..

We don't have bass in Germany but I want to get myself a nice bass combo at some point.

Casting distance is severely lowered and if you do happen to high-stick the rod, then it has a higher chance of breaking.
First time pier fishing, what kind of rod do I need to purchase? medium light, medium or medium heavy?
Medium Heavy all day bro , you’re fishing near structure so you want a rod with good backbone to pull fish out of structure
@@chrisjones720 why not get medium rod rated from 1/4-3/4 not to stiff for light lures still enough backbone for heavylures

I don't recommend this but if you had to do it.. Do it slowly and use like 30% of your normal casting force.

Thank you brother I got you
Does lure wight also determine how big fish can you pull out? Because some rods state lure weight and some have LB, like 20-30 LB
Hook size can impact fish size and getting a good hook set. Also, smaller hooks or lures might bend with bigger fish.
That's your line. 20 to 30 pound line.
@Saltstrong so what does lure weight on the rod means?
I have a 5-10kg rod what’s the best weight jig head for that
It will depend on the depth you want to fish. A heavier jig will sit lower in the water while a lighter one will be higher towards the surface.
So if I’m not casting, using more eight is not really a concern? ie. drop and drift fishing.
Probably not. However, check out the full blog on our website and leave your question there. That way, our team can respond directly with their recommendation. You can find it here: bit.ly/2VDSOAx

@@ronmb81 i have the same setup.
Go the lighter braid and leader.
The rods feels like its rated higher.
Just use a thinner line.. And thank me later!
Is it a problem if my rod can hold 20grams but my lure is 25grams
Likely not, just be careful not to high-stick the rod and when casting
Hmm is this only for lures or what about float rigs and such?
This is for anything that is getting casted out... float + swivel/hook + bait
I’m assuming when fishing a popping cork you need to calculate the full weight of the cork and whatever you are fishing under it?
I guess so
Yes
Watching video 👍🙏👍❤️😀😘
mine doesnt have that tho
You don't have a rod rating? You may be able to search online to get that information.
I don't look at those numbers..I go by feel. You can tell when a lure is to heavy or light for your rod.
Yeah but the numbers are usually a correct range. If you don't know what the rod can handle yet its better to have an idea instead of wasting money.
@@SaltySeaCaptain Sorry you missed the point. I'll try harder next time.
