Even though Mojang is owned by Microsoft, they still have accountability for a lot of the things that happen to Minecraft. Mojang is the one who needs to step up their game.
I walked past a glad smell dispenser and that exact smell brought me back to legacy Minecraft. Staying up late a night playing slit screen then rushing to the bathroom scared because it was so dark in the hallway. It’s crazy what a scent can do for memory.
@@djplonghead5403 “Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from? I'd make a candle out of it if I ever found it Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one”
@@djplonghead5403that is what i like to call association, when two different things that happened at the same time in your memory and one reminds you of the other, its very interesting and ive had many instances of this
I used it alot more before mini games came out since me and my brother could make a hunger games map and not have to reset every single chest each time
Oh shoot I remember that!!! I remember when it updated and it was removed, i was so upset. but luckily I still had one world left with the stampy house still completely intact on it. I can remember one time in particular when me and my friends started blowing up stampys house for fun. That was until I saw the "autosave in 5" pop up on the screen. I have never turned off my ps3 faster. (Edit: I fixed the grammar and wording. I was very tired when I originally wrote this and I just had a stroke re-reading it.)
Exactly when I played it and compared it to bedrock it was soo stable and neat. Genuinely wasn’t there a way to create another minecraft edition without mobile interaction?
More than basically, it is everything Bedrock should've been and so, so much more. I played it on the Xbox One personally, and seeing those clips of TU46 was just too much.
I would love to play minecraft more on my switch, but when it comes to playing minecraft with a console i just play it on my old ps3 just because it runs better on there.. its actually just sad in my opinion
I feel like the limited size of console worlds was *really* what did it. Worlds felt so lived in without putting in days upon days of work since there were only so many places you could build.
This is why I wish there was a limited world map for bedrock. Multiplayer in world that small was amazing, even if you and your friends decided to not work together you'd always be at most 5 minutes away and older world like that had signs of life everywhere. Maybe to accommodate all the content it'd have to be the size of a lv4 map and increase ore generation for long-term purposes. Obviously the End/Nether get a bit scuffed since there's not much reason to build there when it wasn't uncommon to reset them when it got hard to find resources given how small they were.
@@IC-23 oh man you reminded me that you could reset the end and the nether with just the click of a button. Yeah, you can technically do that in Java by manipulating files, but when I played console edition at 6, 7, 8 years old, I wouldn’t of known how to do that
@@lucasmatthiessen1570 issue is those are 1 chunk. 360 worlds generated as the same. Size as a lv3 map and usually had every biome. If we had an option to select something around the size of a lv4 map with at least one of every structure/biome
Legacy console edition actually felt like a proper almost 1:1 console port of Java minecraft with extra bells and whistles, while Bedrock feels like a mobile game. Not only does it feel like a mobile game, but it also feels like one of those old videogame ports that were outsourced to an obscure amateur studio and turned out really bad which is funny because 4J, a third party studio, did a way better job than Mojang themselves.
Xbox 360 edition was the first version I ever played on. I have so much nostalgia playing with my family. Looking back on it, those really were magical times
The 360 was where I made and kept friends. When everybody else moved on, I lost contact with everyone because I didn't have any contact info to give out and I was going through some shit. I've never made the types of friends I used to have, and have only gotten more distant even though I'm a much better person than I was at that age.
For me those were the days of playing halo reach and minecraft with my family we found many things in the legacy edition 1 being that in one of the older tutorial worlds if you were to go beyond the village you'd eventually get to a snowy area with a cave somewhere in that cave was a zombie spawner 2 was a dupe glitch it was where if you mined a block continuously eventually you'd actually get two instead of one we used this glitch to dupe resources such as emerald and diamond
It was a pure Minecraft experience. To this day it's still a fantastic experience. The ps4/xbox one editions are the closest to the 360 edition (now they're just called Minecraft legacy), and honestly they are my preferred versions. I love the basic sandbox survival. Build, survive, prosper. Free to build the perfect world. They were still updated until like 2019 (the 360 end of 2018), so they're very complete games but retain that pure essence of what makes Minecraft great.
For me the quality and minigames of is what set console edition apart. It feels like I'm playing a appreciated and amazingly crafted game, plus minigames too; I use to speedrun glide and have played a fair bit of battle/tumble and they really have such depth/replayability. Compared to much of the minigames available on Bedrock they feel as though they have a soul. Enjoyed the video :]
Agreed. I believe that from 2016-2017, CE was truly the best version of Minecraft. It was simply above Java and PE in terms of polish. And of course minigames were another story. Thanks for your comment!
It's not just the minigames but there's so many classic maps. I remember when command blocks became a thing and the community had a hay day with them. I think it's just not a risk, no incentive to be unique because there's thousands of crap on bedrock instead. It's a shame really.
Two more things I would add: 1. The split screen worked really well. If you’ve ever had 8 people playing in the same world on 2 Xboxes, you know the unique experience that can be. 2. Older Minecraft just had more peaceful vibes. There’s another RUclips video about why beta Minecraft is better called “Why Do People Still Play The Beta Version Of Minecraft” much of that applies to 4JCraft as well.
I love minecraft legacy edition. The most vivid memories I had of it were the minigames. I used to play "battle" and "glide" a lot, it really brought back some memories. I'm so glad there's still a button to return to the editions on the ps4 version of Minecraft.
My favorite featured that was not mentioned is 3D skins. The ones you bought from the packs were more often than not 3D and had parts that would extend off the body or limbs that were smaller or invisible. Java today still lacks this feature.
plenty of mods on java that allow for easy 3d skin distribution and access, there's even some mods that allow you to use an mm3d model so you could rip off a completely polygonal model from another game (given that it's in the right format) and play with it
There was also a Spider-Man skin pack on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One that had Doc Ock and Iron Spider with 3d robotic arms but they stopped selling it and the skins no longer work.
I miss this old minecraft, so simple and unique from the others. I'm glad it was a part of my childhood. Edit: I agree with everything in this video, good job on it btw
360 edition was the one I fell in love with. World generation and customisation in 360 and Xbox 1 was simply better than what we have in bedrock edition.
I honestly liked the limited world sizes... Nowadays playing minecraft can feel super overwhelming because there is so much to explore, but with a limited world size you have to mine, build and craft with what the world generated, if it did not have a desert and you wanted a desert temple, tough luck! It was punishing but also rewarding, specially after making tunnels and homes and other structures all around the map, you truly felt like you conquered the world (being able to see everything on the portable map that showed the entire world helped a lot). Also because of the water on all sides of the map, it felt more like alpha and beta minecraft back in the day, like its an island in the middle of the ocean . Again, nowadays it just feels like you are in the middle of an infinite continent most of the time.
I kind of disagree. At least in my opinion. One of the most fun I’ve had playing Minecraft was going to a woodland mansion. It wasn’t exploring the mansion itself. It was the long journey to get to mansion. As well as the long journey back home. Once I’m done with raiding the mansion. I start to feel homesick. I miss my home. I miss hanging out with my pets. And when I come back. Seeing the familiar landscapes. And then finally seeing my home after days of being away. Seeing my dog and two cats, parrot, allay and axolotl again. Was probably the best experience I’ve had playing the game. I just started playing Minecraft a few years ago. So I probably didn’t get to experience what’s it like to be in a limited world.
I actually had friends coming over to my house around may 9th and we played console edition and I had a fun time. We used to play console back 5-7 years ago so its nice to relive good memory's.
I really loved the waiting rooms for the minigames. Sometimes I would just play in them alone, and try to find all of the secrets And there sure was a ton, because you could find guides online of how to find everything. I remember there being one map where if you did certain things around the map, you would find a HUGE cave underground.
I remember playing minigames on the Xbox 360 version as a kid alone (because no Xbox live) and I would be absolutely terrified of empty waiting rooms cause I thought herobrine would show up
I really miss the ability to play with paid resource packs for free, you just couldn't save. Which I didn't mind. What I miss the most is the mash-up packs. It was so awesome to explore all these highly detailed worlds with the different soundtracks. The Halo mash-up was how I got into the Halo series. (btw, Halo Master Chief Collection is one of the best deals in gaming. it's improve so much since 2014. 6 games in one package. seriously, Custom Game Browser, Flood in Halo 3 ODST Firefight, the improved forge with a much larger budget, it's unreal how awesome it is.)
The thing I loved the most about the older console versions was the fact that the game had limitations. In the modern versions there's soooo much content that it kinda feels overwhelming to me. There are so many items and the world's being infinite kinda feels off. I tend to be much more creative when there are some kind of restrictions in place. That's completly gone now in the days of MC Bedrock.
I 100% agree with you, I have the exact same feeling. I always get bored of Minecraft PC for this reason, I was much more creative back in 2012 on Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. This is why today I'm still playing Minecraft on PC but I more try to return to the "OG" versions like BETA versions or famous ones like 1.2, 1.4.7, 1.5.2, 1.6.4.
@@K3rhos That's why i don't like Minecraft anymore aswell there is just too much content now, back in 2014 when you founds diamonds that was it game complete, you were free to dick around since you had everything but now there is just so much more to do that i get burnt out and stop playing before i can get everything. I stopped playing when the nether update released and i don't think i'll be returning anytime soon, unless some amazing update releases.
I might disagree because one of the best moments I’ve had in my modern Minecraft world was exploring the infinite world for not only in game days but for real life days as well. The feeling of finally coming home after what felt like a century was amazing. For me at least.
I’m so glad I’m not alone on the limited world size thing. I loved having a finite amount of resources on one world because everything felt so meaningful. When a world is infinite, nothing feels special because there’s an infinite (not really) amount of it. Finding a mushroom island on legacy console edition is a good example because there would only usually be like one or two per large world, so finding one feels so meaningful since it’s the only one. The biome sizes were also great too and choosing the biome sizes was a highly underrated feature. I would usually do a medium world with medium biome sizes. But omg, my favorite thing of all about limited worlds was that you could have an entire map of your world! That’s the most dope thing of all time and I would always do those in my worlds. Even on large worlds despite it being really tedious.
Great point about having a map of your whole world, I loved that too! I think limited worlds meant you could really get to know your world and it’s landmarks. Thanks for your comment!
Couldn’t you still technically do that today? Transfer over a classic sized world from xbox one, ps4, switch etc to bedrock and just not go beyond the tiny oceans where new terrain generates
Also each seed back then felt so unique and different (granted they still are), unlike now where all worlds and seeds feel samey even with the caves and cliffs update. Plus having everything you need in one area was nice. Now you have to travel thousands of blocks just to find a single biome or new structure, and having a small limited world is great for sparking creativity since it gives you limitations and boundaries to work in
I still boot up the old ps3 sometimes just to play battle, there's still an impressive playerbase and me and some random guys have made some really cool stuff. I can't help but choke up a little watching this video knowing so many people still appreciate this masterpiece of a game. Great community, great music, great gameplay, legendary game.
One of the smallest features that I miss the most is being able to pause the game in single player. The amount of times I've been blown up by a creeper because I try to pause my bedrock game is too many to count
I remember back in 2012 on Xbox 360 Edition I was trying to fill the entire map with a unique huge city, and this is what I did, it was something cool to have a limited map, you had better objectives and when you had visited the entire map you had the feeling of having accomplished something big and something finished ! When I moved to Minecraft PC (Java) in 2014-2015 it was different, not the same feeling, and since worlds were infinite I was always moving to a new world when I had constructed my house and killed the ender dragon, also the amount of new contents on PC was so huge that it was quickly boring in some way, because you always had something to do, you could not make a Minecraft World and say: "I finished the game !", it was nearly impossible. Minecraft Xbox 360 had a sort of a real ending and satisfaction after "colonising" your entire world.
Great video. For me personally, it feels like Legacy was built with love. Which is a stark comparison to Bedrock. Legacy simply feels complete as is, whereas Bedrock is in dire need of features despite being more up to date update wise. Let's just say that I want to buy myself a Wii U again.
Tell me about it haha, I loved playing Minecraft on my Wii U in split screen. I always wondered why I preferred it over bedrock on PS4, however it makes sense now after watching this video. If you ever do get another Wii U, then feel free to add me (MegaBytesMe). I'm usually on Splatoon however I have most games for that console.
@@brondlini5459 This is because of a precision error to do with floats, the variables aren't precise enough and collision fails apparently, I am still learning programming right now, but I heard this was the reason
Bring out your torches (not just the ones solely for lighting), but the Wii U was the best console ever. Wii U Edition is perhaps the most nostalgic game of all for me.
@@ThighFish Best console ever? Maybe not. Filled with games made with love? Entirely! I'd put the Wii U and 3ds up as some of my favorite consoles, what Nintendo was putting out, along with third parties was great until the very end. And I mean that, there was a guy working on 3ds and Wii U eShop games until the day they stopped letting people add new ones! I'll definitely look on these consoles fondly, heck, I still play on my 3dses even in 2023!
safe to say that the music in the minecraft legacy minigames are the most underrated pieces of media in the internet, themes like dance of the blocks, agile accelerando, swift descent, double time, etc... just sound so good and not many people appreciate them :((
At least Super Smash Bros gave the minigame music some love when they added Steve. Seriously, listen to the arrangement of Glide in that one! Interestingly, they only added music from Legacy Console and Dungeons, likely because of how picky C418 is about the rights to his music.
@@TheRedCap actually, sakurai said he added the music from legacy console minigames because the normal music was just too calm for super smash bros(I think it was during the Nintendo direct when Steve was revealed).
@@TheRedCapC418 isn’t picky microsoft wanted FULL rights to all the music he made for Minecraft obviously C418 wasn’t happy because he wouldn’t have any rights to his OWN music so he stopped making music for them because in order to keep making music for Minecraft he would have to give all rights
@@SpinAttackLink I understand that. No reason Nintendo/Sora couldn't have negotiated a better deal. The only reason Microsoft wanted full rights is because that's industry standard. The only reason Notch allowed the more lax deal to go through was because his game hadn't even reached a phase where he was charging for it yet. It sucks, and I agree it shouldn't be the industry standard, but music for games is often done as contracted work. Just look at the DOOM Eternal soundtrack debacle, Id treated him HORRIBLY after he signed on the contract. But a lot of game companies are not willing to give an inch simply because they haven't had to before. This whole situation really sucks because fans really had a chance to campaign against MS for shafting Minecraft's one true composer, but instead they all lapped up Lena Raine instead. No disrespect to Raine, she's an excellent composer and absolutely nailed Minecraft's style, but it sucks nobody got up in arms after MS and C418 had their falling out. Back to Nintendo and Super Smash Bros, I think what ended up happening is Nintendo asked for the rights to use the music, but MS said C418 owned it, and Nintendo didn't want to go through the hassle of negotiating with an outside party (after already going through MS and Mojang) and made up the excuse that C418's music "didn't fit in a Fighting game" Oddly enough, they were willing to work with 4J for the Legacy Console music. Either that or MS owned some kind of rights to it already.
The items would respawn too. Not sure how often, but they definitely did unless you switched the world to creative and back (or migrated it to a newer version).
@SKCro I remember finding a glitch that would respawn the items (which I think can be replicated today) you would have to go to the area, then when the help infografic popped up you had to hit no. Then you grab whatever you needed from the chest, exit the area, and walk back in and repeat. This made achievements really easy and helped me get the platinum.
I lowkey teared up watching this... The amount of memories and nostalgia that came back when I watched this- This version had the most simplistic and beautiful communities that came of the time. Truly something too look back on :)
The best tribute for the best version of mc! I was taking a little break from minecraft but your video inspired me to hook up my xbox 360 tonight. I miss legacy so much. Thanks for sharing, Ollie!!
@@stalingrad3010 nah bro I play java edition now and im one of the best 1.17+ uhc players on it but dont disrespect the console edition it was so many ppl childhood including me
This version of minecraft was such an OG back in the day, it’s just doesn’t feel the same playing it on the latest version of Java or latest console today. There’s at least a billion things that I loved about this version, words can’t describe how amazing and nostalgic this version was
I think my favorite thing about the legacy console editions thinking back was how well optimized they were. In modern Minecraft java edition, no matter how good your computer is, you always seem to run into frame-rate problems in vanilla Minecraft, and it can be quite annoying sometimes. I don't think I ever had any problems with my frame-rate on the 360. Modern Java edition on the other hand runs like crap sometimes, especially if I play without any optimization mods, it takes upwards of a minute for my frame-rate to reach a stable 60, and it's gotten worse since the 1.18 update whenever I visit updated chunks in my world. Usually this isn't an issue for me because I play with Optifine installed, but I'd be willing to argue that the existence of optimization mods proves Mojang could optimize Minecraft better, any change that can be modded into a game can be just as easily added on the developers side. I know limited worlds accounts for some of the difference, but Mojang definitely could (and should imo) invest some time into improving Minecraft's performance. I want to clarify that my PC is farily decent, and I don't run into performance issues in many games that I play, Minecraft is one of the few exceptions. tbh the fact I can run games 5x as graphically intense as Minecraft at a more stable frame-rate is kind of hilarious.
No, you’re somewhat right. I have a gaming laptop and even when it was brand new I struggled to get 60 fps stable despite having the specs to get 200 on Java… bedrock is a mess
Most of my memories of playing Minecraft comes from this edition. Seeing all of the updates roll out when Java already had them was so fun because you already knew what they did, and getting to the pay with them just felt different in a way. I’m not friends with the people I played with anymore, but I’ll never forget the times that I spent with them. Wether it was doing terrible roleplaying on creative, or beating the ended dragon in survival, I had so much fun. I remember when we were trying to get “The Lie” achievement, I had to look for sugar cane because there was none nearby. It became night and I just couldn’t find any, until finally I got to the edge of the world I found tons, and was so happy that I ran back and almost died, and then we all got the achievement. It’s not a significant memory, but it’s one of many that I have that make me nostalgic and happy
With the tutorial worlds it was so nice and inspiring to see the creators of the game having builds in the game. It made it feel so personal compared to how corporate it feels now.
I got console edition in 2014, I loved it and still hop on for a few rounds of mini games quite a lot! Something else I noticed is how well optimised it is, i used to play split screen with my friend all the time on the legacy edition and never had any issues across all the mini games and regular worlds. But on the bedrock edition whenever we played splitscreen there was always a noticeable drop in performance even though it wasn’t a power demanding world.
It's the way it handles it. For example, on the Xbox 360 edition, if another player joins, rather than keep the FPS cap at 60 and never reach it, it intentionally halfs its framerate to 30 FPS, which it can reach just fine and keeps it feeling stable.
i still hop on sometimes and just play minigames. such good memories, when minecraft wouldn't crash every 3 seconds and the game actually hit a consistant 60fps
I liked the reset the nether and reset the end features as well as being able to pause the game mid-fall to save yourself, and being able to exit without saving
I was able to recreate the legacy console edition of Minecraft on Bedrock edition using resource packs. I've also changed many controls and settings to make it the most like legacy console edition, and I may make a tutorial about it.
@@HotBean GitHub repo for a resource pack has been taken down so I may have to make some kind of MediaFire link for it, but yes I am working on it right now. Maybe next time I may compile all the resource packs into one. I kinda figured out how to do some of it
Brooooo this is the most nostalgic video ever. My, my sister and my brother would play Minecraft together all on the same console, screen split three ways. My sister always got the biggest screen because she’s the oldest of us, we’d play the mini games all the time and me and my brother would play the mashup worlds that I didn’t even know were based off of anything because our family is super religious and controlling, we were barely ever allowed to play because of that but we still did, I remember playing on the Halloween mashup pack when my parents weren’t home and feeling so sneaky. God. I’m buying the game again, I still have the console but it barely works. I don’t care. I need to do this again.
I still play on the Wii U to this day. Even though I got my very own copy of the game on my computer, I still find it somewhat interesting to go back and play on the game with my old Wii U friends. It genuinely made my childhood.
Legacy too me felt like a bunch of theater kids getting to do a trendy play thats popular, though not perfect, they got alot done for what was needed and people enjoy it. By the time the theater put their show out of the schedule, they thanked everyone and gave a polite bow before leaving the play for their own things. You can still watch the play from when people recorded it on a device, but you know that at the time it was better to be there to enjoy it.
I grew up with Minecraft Console Edition when I couldn't play Java properly in my PC. I miss this edition and I loved every memory I had with friends, strangers, exploring the festive or medieval maps, roleplaying, etcetera. Thanks Console Edition!
I especially loved being able to join random Minecraft worlds, and seeing whatever things others made. There was Pokémon battles, custom minigames, grinding games, etc. I want something like that again... being put into a random public world and not knowing what gameplay you're gonna get.
This video reminded me of the features that were blatantly taken away on bedrock edition. Also, I’m blown away by how small your channel is! You definitely deserve more - +1 sub (:
Dude I remember playing the TU1 demo world when I was first introduced to MC, 4J Studios really put in the work to make sure our experiance was enjoyable on console, thanks 4J Studios for the amazing work to service the console playerbase!
This game changed my life, and I met so many amazing people when I played, including one of my best friends, who I've now known for about 9 years. We still talk every day, just like back in the Xbox parties. With that being said, this is a fantastic video. You put a ton of effort into this. It deserves more views. ^^ Fantastic job!
I think the more Washed-Out texture of Legacy console on 100% Gamma provides a feeling of calmness and serenity, at least in creative mode or when you're not fighting mobs or in a cave. Bedrock's more vibrant color scheme makes it feel more lifelike yes, but to me, it feels like it's also screaming at you in a sense.
One thing that will always make me love the legacy version is the crafting menu. Its so organized everything has its own category and you can see what you need for the item your crafting instead of having to search it up.
I wish 4J was still in charge of making the console ports of Minecraft, I personally have great memory playing Minecraft PlayStation 3 edition back before I got Java edition.
The greatest feature was 4 player coop, was rlly useful, especially when you are younger, the next best feature was the skins, they were just epic, after that probs the mini games, those are the main things I remember
I actually abused that feature in the demo version to keep playing for as long as possible. If you paused on the first player, the demo timer would stop for other players even if they aren't paused. So I'd dig player 1 a hole to stay in and keep them paused while I played as player 2 :P
As someone who’s first experience with Minecraft was the PS4 edition, I wish that the legacy console edition features and maps can someday be accessed in either Bedrock or Java. Yes, some of the skins are in Bedrock, but it feels a lot more lifeless. Imagine being able to switch between Java, Bedrock, or Legacy console UIs! Also, limited world sizes are great too.
I remember really cherishing every single console edition update. Back then I was the only one of my friends with Java edition so i played more console to play with them too, because console edition was always a bit behind in content it really felt so special to have youtubers like ibxtoycat and eckosoldier cover all the little hints 4j gave us about what to expect next. Such a comforting community for lil me and such an amazing game studio. I could seriously go on for hours about how different it hit to play on console edition back then
As a long time Legacy Console Edition player, this was the version of Minecraft that brought me into the game. It still holds up (imo) to this day in terms of quality and overall content it had to offer compared to the other versions of LCE. While no longer updated, it doesn't stop me from still playing the game after 10 years from its original release. Nowadays, I speedrun the game and it brings a whole new experience. I'm grateful that I found out about the 360 Edition back in 2012 as the Trial Edition. Happy 10th anniversary LCE!
i wish i could go back and appreciate legacy more, it made me love minecraft and i even still have my bed creeper texture, posters, my curtains are creeper themed, minecraft changed my life and its all because of legacy
I remember fondy of when i first played Minecraft on my PS4. I started in 2014-2015 ish. I was playing the game, spawned in the tutorial world, dug straight down, found a cave filled with red mushrooms, and fell into lava. I also remember the music playing when I started playing it. The song playing when I first started playing that tutorial world was called "Dreiton" by C418, the most nostalgic song ever.
Also on the superflat worlds mineshafts and strongholds would generate above ground, which is missing from any other version of minecraft and was really fun.
as toycat put it so elegantly, Minecraft Legacy was so good because it was a dedicated port to consoles, not a version of Minecraft made to work for phones and Windows ported to console also fun fact, the reason the tutorial worlds look so good is because 4J would bring on professional architectural design people on to build them
I remember my brothers and I always checking out and playing the mashup packs on our Xbox all the time and just exploring everything. Best part was, they were free to play to the extent that you just couldn’t save the world. I loved them so much!
main thing I love about console edition is the optimization, they really squeezed out as much as possible out of those consoles, and did it with 8 chunk render distance, fps that was actually stable, and visuals that even surpass modern versions (in my opinion) on vanilla 1.20 I can barely go a few seconds without suffering constant microstutters, fps that varies extremely, even with multiple graphical settings turned down to low or off, and at 6 chunk render distance, and I'm sure I could go and buy a 4090 machine and still get noticeable frame drops even on something like vanilla bedrock because of how god awful the optimization is
7:28 fun fact: if you bought the Minecraft xbox one console every mashup pack, texture and skins made by 4j studios for legacy edition would be unlocked for free. I discovered this when my cousins gifted me a Minecraft xbox one s for my birthday. (Also a Minecraft Windows 10 edition code would come in the box so you'll also get Minecraft windows 10 for free) That day i was the happiest little kid ever
I really wish I could go back to that era there were so many things I remembered and things that imo should be in the current, modern version of minecraft
Me and my brother started playing Minecraft Xbox 360 just a few days after it's release, and it was one of the only games we played for years, I don't even know how many thousands of hours we played on our Xbox 360. 4J did such an amazing job with the console port, I still remember how excited we were running around out world trying out hunger and sprinting when TU5 came out, and how crazy TU9 was adding the end, I will never forget Minecraft Xbox 360 edition. Still have our first world, I revisit it from time to time, even tried re-imaging it using the same seed on Beta 1.7.3 on PC, also tried the same seed with the Mango Pack, built an Aether portal in the same spot where I had tried 10 years earlier, not going to lie my eyes watered a little bit seeing it work.
I just wanna say that some of the music for the minigames (I think just the more basic ones) found their way onto smash bros, which I find really neat and nostalgic.
The thing I hate about the Smash DLC is that the only music other than the minigame music (which was still remixed) was from Dungeons, not actual Minecraft.
Great video, I think the best memory I ever had was when I got the physical disc, I was so enchanted over the cover and kept reading the back cover just excited to play Minecraft for the first time and be like Stampy or DanTDM and play what they played.
I'm so glad you mentioned custom flat worlds. I remember spending so many hours on my super flat worlds and building in creative and survival mode as a kid. And yes I was one of those people who often switched their gamemode.
If I'm being honest, I'm glad it was discontinued. Now whenever I miss how old Minecraft was, I can always look back and enjoy the nostalgia whenever I want. It's better than having all of these bedrock updates drop on the legacy edition and ruin everything.
I Remember Minecraft console Edition so much and man was it Nostalgic… i Remember First Experiencing “Console Edition” on the Xbox 360 and i still get Good Sweet Childhood Memories. it will always takes me back when Video Games where Good Back Then… i will prefer Minecraft then The Garbage-Overrated Games these Days such as “Fortnite, & Among Us, etc,” Amazing Video !
Another really cool thing is the uniqueness in the skins, the birthday pack upside down skins, the tiny stars skins, so much variety that doesn’t look stupid or unnecessary like bedrock does
I remember the original crafting menu for xbox 360 being really nice and simple to use (but that may have just been that there weren't very many blocks in that day). Almost wish they could bring that back in some way.
My brother always said he didn't understand why I loved Legacy Edition so much if I had always played Java the most. This video explains it perfectly. The first veraion I played was the PS3 Edition at a far-related cousin, and I was amazed. I had never played Minecraft myself, but I had watched gameplays. After some years, I finally was able to purchase Minecraft on my Nintendo switch, and I remember all the ama,ing memories I made with it, from my first complete gigantic house, to spending lots of hours racing my ghosts, I even made a friend who I communicated with through the use of signs. There will never ever be an experience like Legacy, and I'm sad it's now but a memorial of past times... This video was great, and I'm sorry if my English is a bit broken, I'm just really hit.

@@OllieCreates now imagine if java had bedrock’s optimization and friend invite system and console’s minigames and polish 👌
It's not just the minigames but there's so many classic maps. I remember when command blocks became a thing and the community had a hay day with them. I think it's just not a risk, no incentive to be unique because there's thousands of crap on bedrock instead. It's a shame really.
Two more things I would add:

My favorite featured that was not mentioned is 3D skins. The ones you bought from the packs were more often than not 3D and had parts that would extend off the body or limbs that were smaller or invisible. Java today still lacks this feature.
I was always obsessed with the Doctor Who K-9 skin!! So disappointed when I got Java and couldn’t figure out how to make it work…
I still use my Huntress Wizard skin from when we bought the Adventure Time pack, it’s pretty much what people associate me with in Minecraft now
plenty of mods on java that allow for easy 3d skin distribution and access, there's even some mods that allow you to use an mm3d model so you could rip off a completely polygonal model from another game (given that it's in the right format) and play with it
It felt like the 3D skins were sort of a compromise for not having custom skins. And my god, it was a really good compromise!

Those ocean worlds were incredible as well as challenging
to be fair, you could still do that by decreasing the world border size

That's completly gone now in the days of MC Bedrock.

I just realized after reading this I haven't seen a Mushroom Island in Bedrock Edition. I haven't seen 😕 one since Legacy edition.
Also you could be sure you wouldn't have to travel almost 10,000 blocks away from spawn to get to the stronghold

The thing is I don’t think Minecraft is supposed to have an end or a feeling of “alright I beat the game”
Great video. For me personally, it feels like Legacy was built with love. Which is a stark comparison to Bedrock. Legacy simply feels complete as is, whereas Bedrock is in dire need of features despite being more up to date update wise. Let's just say that I want to buy myself a Wii U again.

Back to Nintendo and Super Smash Bros, I think what ended up happening is Nintendo asked for the rights to use the music, but MS said C418 owned it, and Nintendo didn't want to go through the hassle of negotiating with an outside party (after already going through MS and Mojang) and made up the excuse that C418's music "didn't fit in a Fighting game"
Oddly enough, they were willing to work with 4J for the Legacy Console music. Either that or MS owned some kind of rights to it already.

@SKCro I remember finding a glitch that would respawn the items (which I think can be replicated today) you would have to go to the area, then when the help infografic popped up you had to hit no.
So you're saying that my old Dell (ex)office computer from 2011 will play the game as well as a fully built gaming PC?
No, you’re somewhat right. I have a gaming laptop and even when it was brand new I struggled to get 60 fps stable despite having the specs to get 200 on Java… bedrock is a mess
Lol build a couple auto farms and 360 lags like a mf
oh god no, dont get me wrong tho legacy is great but framerate is everything but stable, there is a lot of constant lag spikes (on ps3 specially)
You know they did something wrong if the new version of the game literally runs worse on newer consoles.
It's the way it handles it. For example, on the Xbox 360 edition, if another player joins, rather than keep the FPS cap at 60 and never reach it, it intentionally halfs its framerate to 30 FPS, which it can reach just fine and keeps it feeling stable.
Oh man, that truckful of nostalgia hits hard
i still hop on sometimes and just play minigames. such good memories, when minecraft wouldn't crash every 3 seconds and the game actually hit a consistant 60fps
I liked the reset the nether and reset the end features as well as being able to pause the game mid-fall to save yourself, and being able to exit without saving

I remember when Mini Games first came out, I got so good at Battle and Glide. It was so much fun. I really miss the old Legacy Edition. :(
I still play on the Wii U to this day.
Even though I got my very own copy of the game on my computer, I still find it somewhat interesting to go back and play on the game with my old Wii U friends.
It genuinely made my childhood.
I was a Wii u player too then switched to the switch
You make me want to dust off my Wii U and get mining
Even though I played on my PS3 most of the time.
This entire video gave me chills, years of fun, all gone
Damn
I miss simpler times
I grew up with Minecraft Console Edition when I couldn't play Java properly in my PC. I miss this edition and I loved every memory I had with friends, strangers, exploring the festive or medieval maps, roleplaying, etcetera.
Thanks Console Edition!
I especially loved being able to join random Minecraft worlds, and seeing whatever things others made. There was Pokémon battles, custom minigames, grinding games, etc. I want something like that again... being put into a random public world and not knowing what gameplay you're gonna get.
oh hello me from one year ago
This video reminded me of the features that were blatantly taken away on bedrock edition. Also, I’m blown away by how small your channel is! You definitely deserve more - +1 sub (:
Dude I remember playing the TU1 demo world when I was first introduced to MC, 4J Studios really put in the work to make sure our experiance was enjoyable on console, thanks 4J Studios for the amazing work to service the console playerbase!
Every time I hear the background music in a world (on this version), I can just feel the nostalgia flowing through my veins.
This game changed my life, and I met so many amazing people when I played, including one of my best friends, who I've now known for about 9 years. We still talk every day, just like back in the Xbox parties.
With that being said, this is a fantastic video. You put a ton of effort into this. It deserves more views. ^^
Fantastic job!
Thank you for the kind words!
@@OllieCreates Absolutely! From one small creator to another, you deserve more attention. (:
@@SKCro. lol epic
I could seriously go on for hours about how different it hit to play on console edition back then
7:04 on top of monetized skin packs, they were also very low in cost. That is just a huge bonus
Playing survival on legacy ps4 is one of the most relaxing experiences I've had in my life
i wish i could go back and appreciate legacy more, it made me love minecraft and i even still have my bed creeper texture, posters, my curtains are creeper themed, minecraft changed my life and its all because of legacy
I do wish that 4J would work in collaboration with Mojang, to polish the game after Mojang’s work on it.
4J Studios had more love and care for Minecraft than the "current" Mojang itself
Yeah I loved the floating strongholds, very fun for parkour
...I might cry. I miss this version so much, I grew up with it.
i loved how simple and unique the legacy edition was, it added its own flair and nostalgia. 4J also put alot of care into the legacy edition
as toycat put it so elegantly, Minecraft Legacy was so good because it was a dedicated port to consoles, not a version of Minecraft made to work for phones and Windows ported to console
also
fun fact, the reason the tutorial worlds look so good is because 4J would bring on professional architectural design people on to build them
I remember my brothers and I always checking out and playing the mashup packs on our Xbox all the time and just exploring everything. Best part was, they were free to play to the extent that you just couldn’t save the world. I loved them so much!
Customizable flat worlds are amazing man. I remember having those.
Omg they ruled

To be honest, 4J should still get a major place at Minecraft's development, they did something that neither Mojang nor Microsoft did
main thing I love about console edition is the optimization, they really squeezed out as much as possible out of those consoles, and did it with 8 chunk render distance, fps that was actually stable, and visuals that even surpass modern versions (in my opinion) on vanilla 1.20 I can barely go a few seconds without suffering constant microstutters, fps that varies extremely, even with multiple graphical settings turned down to low or off, and at 6 chunk render distance, and I'm sure I could go and buy a 4090 machine and still get noticeable frame drops even on something like vanilla bedrock because of how god awful the optimization is
7:28 fun fact: if you bought the Minecraft xbox one console every mashup pack, texture and skins made by 4j studios for legacy edition would be unlocked for free. I discovered this when my cousins gifted me a Minecraft xbox one s for my birthday. (Also a Minecraft Windows 10 edition code would come in the box so you'll also get Minecraft windows 10 for free)
That day i was the happiest little kid ever
I really wish I could go back to that era there were so many things I remembered and things that imo should be in the current, modern version of minecraft
this video brought so much nostalgia.
The feeling when you were playing the fight minigame with your friends and everyone was hyped and happy when one of you won
im still glad i bought the legacy edition again just to play a more loved minecraft
Still have our first world, I revisit it from time to time, even tried re-imaging it using the same seed on Beta 1.7.3 on PC, also tried the same seed with the Mango Pack, built an Aether portal in the same spot where I had tried 10 years earlier, not going to lie my eyes watered a little bit seeing it work.
its source code isn't also ripped from mobile so that made it ten hundred percent better.
I just wanna say that some of the music for the minigames (I think just the more basic ones) found their way onto smash bros, which I find really neat and nostalgic.
It's kinda cool, but people are going to think they came from Smash Bros
The thing I hate about the Smash DLC is that the only music other than the minigame music (which was still remixed) was from Dungeons, not actual Minecraft.
@@Tornado2409 In all honesty though, only pigstep could work as actual battle music, since the rest is very peaceful and/or neutral.

Great video, I think the best memory I ever had was when I got the physical disc, I was so enchanted over the cover and kept reading the back cover just excited to play Minecraft for the first time and be like Stampy or DanTDM and play what they played.
I’m crying right now
I'm so glad you mentioned custom flat worlds. I remember spending so many hours on my super flat worlds and building in creative and survival mode as a kid.
And yes I was one of those people who often switched their gamemode.
I switched gamemodes too lol
If I'm being honest, I'm glad it was discontinued. Now whenever I miss how old Minecraft was, I can always look back and enjoy the nostalgia whenever I want. It's better than having all of these bedrock updates drop on the legacy edition and ruin everything.
I Remember Minecraft console Edition so much and man was it Nostalgic…
i Remember First Experiencing “Console Edition” on the Xbox 360 and i still get Good Sweet Childhood Memories.
it will always takes me back when Video Games where Good Back Then…
i will prefer Minecraft then The Garbage-Overrated Games these Days such as “Fortnite, & Among Us, etc,”
Amazing Video !
honestly if we could get official minigames and tutorial worlds back it would be so amazing. I think bedrock should have stayed to mobile
Another really cool thing is the uniqueness in the skins, the birthday pack upside down skins, the tiny stars skins, so much variety that doesn’t look stupid or unnecessary like bedrock does
OMG I HAD THIS AS A KID
i made a TNT superflat world - somehow the game didnt crahs, but instead produced these AMAZING caves
I remember the original crafting menu for xbox 360 being really nice and simple to use (but that may have just been that there weren't very many blocks in that day). Almost wish they could bring that back in some way.
Honestly, the best version of minecraft. I used to buy every skin that came out, the skins were honestly amazing!
This video was great, and I'm sorry if my English is a bit broken, I'm just really hit.
it still blows my mind to this day that the 360 version ran at 60FPS pretty much at all times.
Looking forward to the Big Title Updates were always a great joy to see
The fact the legendary Gareth made the music was super neat. His work is unmatched
Console Minecraft gave me so many memories. I remember playing it on ps3 and having so much fun 🤩
Minigames then:
hey, would you like to play a fun and customizable game with your friends that's easy to access and free to play?
Minigames now:
hey want to pay 6 dollars for a half baked buggy mess infested with hackers?
I know a way to get Water
Yes water in the legacy console version
You put a slab in water and press Select block while you break the slab
something i wish you wouldve touched on was the minigame lobbies and the easter eggs and secret rooms in them
