His Shrek sounds like an entirely different character. In this it seems clear that he wants to have his own place away from his PARENTS and have a family, but the one we got seemed to be a decent bit older, definitely having been alone for a long time.
@@zenituragaming5043 Mike Myers did more than just change a few things. First off whenever a new actor takes over a role that’s not fully developed yet the writers tend to adapt the story and character a bit to fit the new actor. Secondly, and my main and final point, Myers completed the film in his typical speaking voice but was unsatisfied and asked to re-record his lines in a Scottish accent, similar to the one he does for Fat Bastard.
Well, Myers was also the one to give Shrek his Scottish accent, too, so it'd be no surprise if he injected other new ideas into the character after he took over.
Can you imagine how differently everyone would have seen Chris if he had lived to complete the film? He could be a genuinely good, subtle actor when given the opportunity.

My god, hearing Chris say he wanted a home and a family. I honestly think he truly felt this way for real. Always the life of the party but yet somehow the loneliest. God bless you Chris Faley. Rest In Peace you legend
GurahkWeavile Actually, when Mike Myers took over as Shrek's voice actor, he initially performed Shrek's voice without the accent. He had permission to re-record his voice with an accent, which he based off one of his Saturday Night Live characters.
This scene is pretty haunting for a specific reason. Chris Farley's public image was one of a guy who liked to party. But it was clear he was suffering from severe emotional hang-ups. And these emotional issues drove him into a destructive spiral that ended his life. By watching this footage, we see not only a lost movie, but an insight into the harsh feelings of one of the most tragic figures in American comedy.
Alternatively: he was someone that Really liked to party, and it caught up to him. Not all hard drug addictions are rooted in some deep-seeded emotional struggle, especially when they're banging speedballs.
Poor dude was probably already suffering from soon-to-be-fatal serious drug abuse while recording these lines...this just makes Farley's version of Shrek sound somewhat heartbreaking.
Perhaps so, but did Farley write the script? Maybe the way he quoted the lines with raw emotion revealed a reality of his deep emotional pain, but maybe he was only just acting according to what the director wanted. At any rate, it was a great storyboard scene & totally different than the Shrek character we've become accustomed to.
Just imagine Chris's signature yelling coming out of Shrek's mouth. That's how you can tell this part was made for Chris. He has one of the most powerful voices I think I've ever heard. It would have been perfect.
@Sapphire stone No...Mike Myers REwrote Shrek and completely reworked him, he took on the project out of respect for Chris. The part was originally made for Chris, and even with the rework, still think Chris would have been better. I have my opinion and you have yours. You say Mike has the best Shrek, but you have no basis for comparison. Still 100% stand by my comment.
I think the worse thing about Chris Farley's death is that we never got to see him in a dramatic role; it's nice that we get to hear a sliver of what it might've been like.
Comedians are the best at drama. Most comedy comes from a dark place, and comedians know it well. They have much more depth to their performances than drama-only actors
They were gonna offer him a movie based fatty arbuckle. It was gonna be about his sad dark life and chris was gonna get it if he was sober. Sad he passed away soon after they told him that.
Chris Farley's Shrek sounds more chill than the original. yes, he has layers in his personality to protect himself from the world and has the same struggles with Myers' Shrek but their difference is how they cope with it. farley's Shrek copes by being motivated by his parent's love and he sounds more disappointed because the world doesn't love him. Myers' Shrek on the other hand copes by shutting himself from the world isolating himself since he never found anyone who would actually love him for who he is, so the revelation is more cathartic because it shows his frustration with the world and tearing down a "layer" from donkey
@@SouthernOregonReps When he's picking up transvestites in L.A. When he's marrying women, and then divorcing them a day later. When he marries a white woman, knowing full well how horrible they are. He's still the second greatest comedian ever, behind Richard Pryor, though. Oregon is a demonic slave plantation, by the way.
In addition to the fact that Farley passed away during the making of this film, what also makes me sad is hearing his performance. They picked a great scene from the movie that had humor, but also showed more depth in Shrek's character, and if you listen to Farley's voice he's hitting those emotions perfectly. I think this clip shows us a glimpse of Farley being able to hit those dramatic notes in addition to being the clown. Who knows, maybe he could've gone on to do some more serious movies, or sort of dramedy roles, and he might have been great in them. It's sad we'll never be able to see that. RIP Chris Farley, we miss you.
yoshimnm he was going to play a more dramatic role as Fatty Arbuckle. He was a comedian I think the same time as Charlie Chaplin. The point is it could have been Chris Farley's break out role. The only problem was it came with a condition. Chris would have needed to stop partying so hard for the filming. It makes his death way more sad to know he was about to possibly become a bigger force in Hollywood. He was a ticking time bomb but that last little bender just did him in.
I imagine Chris would've loved all the recognition from kids he would've gotten from doing this movie. I can easily imagine him loving seeing kids faces light up when they realized he was Shrek... it's so heartbreaking to think about.
I get the feeling that Shrek and Fiona's kids got their names as an homage to Farley. The boys names are "Farkle" and "Fergus" while the girl's called "Felicia".
This has me crying. It sounds like several of the audio clips of Donkey/Eddie are the exact ones used in the final cut. Meaning he recorded those with, or intending to be with, Chris. I can hear the Mike versions in my head, heavy and extremely melancholy. I can't imagine how it would feel to take words out of the dead's mouth like that. I hardly knew about stories surrounding Chris, but I really worry that portraying this character did not help his mental health at all. I can imagine the role of shrek could feel far too real for him. I am really glad they cut the parental trauma out of the final film, and instead focused on society's missteps and judgements, rather than psychoanalyzing how Shrek's character was raised.
NorthernSpade They did. Myers wanted the character to be wholly his own character, and insisted on a complete rewrite so you couldn't tell it was ever Farley's character.
Trunks1stApprentice Of the story or just the character. I keep wondering what Shrek the musical would be like if Farley had finished the movie. I will admit I like the musical better than the movie.

it’s so weird because i thought the same thing. but the crazy thing is when you see farley in live action screaming you clearly think nothing of it. but when his face isn’t present like in this instance, it can fool you into thinking it’s john dimaggio because they really do sound so similar when screaming
This makes me so sad. Chris Farley would have been on top of Hollywood to this very day if he didn't die. He was headed for so much more greatness. RIP Chris Farley, one of the funniest guys of all time.
Totally. I had no idea that Chris Farley was the original Shrek. Wow. That would have made him a huge success beyond SNL and Tommy Boy if Farley's Shrek was released.
Well said. Last week on SNL (Adam Sandler hosted & had an awesome tribute to Chris) made me realize how Chris is still loved even by some who weren't even born when Farley was still with us. What could have been if Chris loved himself ans wasn't constantly trying to escape pain through booze & drugs.
I think the reason why he died was because of how big he was, I don't think he could of handled the pressures of staying at the top, hence his addictions and untimely death.
I'd like to believe that in a parallel universe somewhere, Chris Farley lived to finish the film and went on to have one of the greatest careers in Hollywood history.
Sipioc according to the original animation the animation was motion captured (I think it's when u move the character moves) and the critics even said it sucked

Wow. The tone and style are totally different. Not only is the portrayal of shrek nothing like what he was like in the movies, the relationship between donkey and shrek is also shown from a different angle. Farley really showed the depths of the character and his acting abilities. And Donkey was not this annoying goofy sidekick, but more like someone that tried to befriend someone who has been alone for far to long and just wants peace and companionship. This is beautiful.
The tone and demeanor this Shrek places is different from the one we got, this Shrek is more of a laid-back type of guy whom comes off of as a bit more puzzled and confused over societies treatment of him. Both the Chris Farley Shrek and the Mike Myers Shrek we got, are necessarily hiding their emotions but their ways and tone of doing so is different. The Chris Farley Shrek talks in a way where he doesn't want to talk about his emotions, but when he does, he is venting frustrations with being lied to by his parents. His dilemma is more of a character vs self idea, where he is trying to prove himself as having worth. With the goal of getting a home for himself where he is wanted. Mike Myers Shrek comes as more hurt due to his experience, with him covering his feelings with a rough exterior shell of emotions. He also doesn't want to talk about his feelings, but it's less to do about his insecurities and more to do with his frustrations. Mike Myers Shrek doesn't express his goal, more than the aim to get his swamp back. He only vents enough to suggest that his goal is complete isolation from society due to its treatment against him. More of man vs society, In what you feel that's necessary to live alone and isolated from a society that had hurt him. From what I acquired just based off of the scene, the movie would have a completely different tone if it was with Chris Farley The Chris Farley version would have likely been a less emotionally frustrated, more emotionally driven type of Shrek. With the goal of keeping his land in order to have and possibly build a place for a family. So he can feel wanted. The type of Shrek we got, or the Mike Myers version, is more emotionally frustrated and has essentially given up on living with society. Yes this Shrek also wants a home, but is more pessimistic against the idea, seeing it as essentially pointless. In which the goal is just essentially to get his land back to live in isolation. As if he already accepted his place in isolation against society. With his entire dreams of wanting to feel wanted, essentially given up on. The quest for Fiona would serve a different emotional purpose as the Chris Farley Shrek would use it to essentially prove himself, possibly coming off as more friendly to Fiona but conflicted against his self doubts of his worth In which the scene where he overhears donkey talking to Fiona with her saying "a horribly ugly beast" in reference to herself but mistakes it for against himself. Would have crushed his determination and self worth feelings, possibility giving up on the idea of getting with and starting a family with Fiona. You would have saw a more emotionally sad and depressed Shrek, who's self worth is crushed. Only to be reestablished with Donkey clarifying she wasn't referring to him when she made those statements. Where has the Mike Myers Shrek, Saw the quest for Fiona as nothing more than a mission in order to get his goal of getting his land back. He had no emotional goal to get with anyone In which this Shrek after overhearing donkey and Fiona, only re-establishes the pointless effort it is to live with society, using more as an excuse to accept his fate. That's why he comes off as more hostile and angry vs a likely Chris Farley adaption. As a Chris Farley Shrek would of been sad for having his dreams crushed, a Mike Myers Shrek is more irritated with himself for allowing himself to believe he's worthy of love, and not residing himself to his fate of living in isolation. That's how these two are different. The Chris Farley Shrek wants to prove himself as worthy, where as the Mike Myers version essentially just wanted to live in isolation as he already believes he's not worthy of love or does not believe he can live with society. Giving up already, and living with more of a pessimistic output. In which would have completely set a different tone for the movie entirely.
This comment is criminally underrated, but I guess most people don't care for deeper analyses. I have to say I'm not at all a fan of Chris Farley's voice for Shrek and don't usually care for essay comments, but this was a great read and gave me an appreciation for Chris Farley's Shrek.
Would the misinterpreted Fiona dialougue be in Fairley's version? Because I know they re wrote the script when Meyers showed up and only kept two scenes basically the same which was this one and another
@@zachgreenwood202 I don't think they got much out of the other actors to recreate the original movie, as from what I've seen the character of Shrek was different in some ways than the final product with Meyers. When I say I want to see the Farley version I largely speak of just wishing to be in an alternate reality where this happened. Besides, arguing about version of a movie is better was already redundant with remakes and reboots. We don't need slightly different versions to pile onto that argument.
Ive never seen Farley as a surly and unpleasant character before. He does it quite well. He was always typecast as a generally affable and easy going type of guy. A damn shame we never got to see any range from him, he could've had a really awesome late career transition like john goodman or jonah hill.

The line sadly wouldn’t be in this version since Shrek doesn’t have a swamp yet and based on the dialogue he exchanged with Donkey in this clip, it seems like he was recently kicked off his parents’ house and going off into the world for the first time.

#SputnicK You know. They might do a live-action remake of Shrek (akin to the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake from Disney) that would have Shrek, played by a motion capture performer, which his voice dubbed by outtakes of Chris Farley's performance of the title character's 90% of dialogue, with the other 10% dubbed by a different actor, who sounds like him. But that would be dubious.

it's really interesting to see Shrek and Donkey to be drawn in classic, Disney-esque 2D. Wish movie was made that way. Voice actors did an outstanding job, by the way.
I think this is one of the few movies that I would prefer in 3D, much like toy story I think the realism helped the movie with its overall aesthetic and appeal, which I don't think so much can be said for other 3D movies such as frozen and other later disney products
the disney way of doing things is lost, when you look at films like snow white and sleeping beauty every single still is a work of art, animation these days is lazy in comparison
Fun fact was that Chris Farley was also considered for a role in the Disney movie Dinosaur (2000). After his death, his character was completely rewritten to an elderly female dinosaur. Another fun fact is that Bill Murray and Nicolas Cage were also considered for Shrek. Bill Murray lost interest as Shrek took too long to get made while Nicolas Cage declined as he didn’t wanna look like an ogre. He has regrets about turning down Shrek and ultimately went on to star in the Croods. No one else can play shrek other than mike myers.
Funny that people keep thinking that David Spade should have been the voice of Donkey in this version, since Peter Segal on the Tommy Boy commentary said that Shrek's writers based Shrek and Donkey's relationship after Farley and Spade in Tommy Boy.
unclesporkums i was for sure thinking that disney was going to give chris farley the role of pacha from emperor's new groove since him & david spade have a legendary dynamic working with eachother.
This is quite cool, although I think Dreamworks made the right choice to cut out Shrek's sympathetic pursuit of parental perils and keep the focus on his relationship with the existing characters. Having him find love, find a friend, find a home, *and* get over his self-depreciating ogre heritage issues seems like one too many plot points to divide a character into. I also prefer Shrek as someone simply ignorant of what makes him content rather than a secret softy whose true motives require leading questions and an exposition scene to understand. Besides, they went back and wound up making a whole movie out of this general concept in the last Shrek film, with Shrek finding himself looking around at his domestic life and suddenly not feeling "ogre" enough. And a that point, the plot device felt like a natural progression because we experienced all of Shrek's "backstory" leading up to it.
I agree. I'm glad they ditched that party of the story line too. Still, I would have loved to have seen the Chris Farley Shrek. He would have knocked it out of the park and made the character a lot funnier. I would love to visit the parallel reality where Chris Farley didn't die and bring back those movies.
When Farley passed away, and Myers was confirmed as his replacement, they rewrote the movie with Myers' version of the character in mind. The movie that we got was written specifically with Myers in mind. So it's very difficult to say if the version we got was better or worse than what we'd have gotten, if Farley hadn't died before recording was finished.
Which is interesting that Jack Black became the voice of Po in Kung Fu Panda, and it makes me wonder if Chris Farley’s Shrek would’ve had the same kind of personality as Po, wanting to be included and having the same kind of young determination that Hercules had, four years before Shrek. And I bet this Shrek would probably be a younger adult who becomes an unlikely hero and everyone nicknames him “kid” the same way the Genie calls Aladdin, the Gargoyles call Quasimodo and Phil calls Hercules “kid”. I really would love to hear the other dialogue that Chris Farley recorded
I always just assumed that the reason they scrapped Chris Farley's performance is because they wanted to milk sequels out of this movie. Without Farley there would be no Shrek 2 so they went with Mike Myers and so of course we ended up with what, three more movies? I hope someday Farley's entire performance will be released.
This is me looking up to Chris as a kid. I looked at him as someone who just wanted to make me smile, make friends and try to make the best of any situation. I wish he knew how much he was loved. He was ahead of his time. I'll never forget you
Another change in this version was that Princess Fiona was voiced by Janeane Garofalo instead of Cameron Diaz, and she had more of Janeane's deadpan personality.
It's crazy to think Shrek was originally going to have parents of his own; they never touch on that in any of the three sequels. Even thought they focus a lot on Fiona's parents
I think this really demonstrates just how much of an animated character comes from the voice actor, Chris' Shrek may have the same core (I want to be left be to my own devices) but his take is so different! The whole parrents issue is really interesting, because we never do get to see how Shrek became the angry grump he is, and it a really unique take. I still like Myers, but I do wonder what just how different Farley's Shrek would have been.
Mike Myers' dad is Scottish. He puts on the exact same accent extensively in "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "The Spy who Shagged Me" and uses it briefly in several other films as well.
This film was meant for Chris Farely to do as he was pretty much finish with the audio before he passed..they need to release it complete some day with 2D animation like the way it was meant to be.
Stimpson J. Kat he did up to 85% to 95% of the work. But the directors didn’t want to use his voice due to what they think would have been a distaste to his legacy
Really cause I think the film still would have been a hit. But since he died I wouldn't be surprised at all if Myers ended up doing the sequels anyways
This is honestly a fantastic scene, and I'm sad we never got to see it in the movie. Shrek having parental problems to explain why he wants a home for himself explains so much about his character...
Farley definitely gives it a more emotional tone instead of the comedic one we got from Meyers. Both are pretty good, but no doubt they give off a different effect and would have shifted the movie's overall tone dramatically. Really pretty cool when you think about it! RIP Chris, hope you're living it up in that van down by the river.
I really feel like if Chris Farley voiced Shrek, Shrek wouldn't have become this massive internet joke like it is with Mike Meyers. Farley just sounds so suited for this role.
Uh, yeah really. Myers stupid overacted "Scottish" accent sucks. This role was made for Farley. He sounds much better for it now that I hear it with the art.
Lon Tanner Yes, I fully agree with you. Thank you. I can't believe people are on here saying otherwise. Maybe just too young to remember how lovable Farley was.
It really would be a fitting tribute if they could put this to actual animation, I grew up laughing to Chris great humor, and I know I would've loved this as much as I ended up loving Myers in Shrek. They both really cared about the roles, and that really shines through this and the actual movie. Hopefully one day this will get that treatment.
The way Mike Myers delivers the "big stupid ugly ogre" part has so much emotion to it like it's something that hurts to think about. Chris Farley just sounds like he's making fun of someone. I think Chris was a great actor but I prefer Mike Myers by a large margin
Chris's performance in this scene shows he wasn't just good at broad physical comedy. He had perfect timing, and he knew how to really dissect these lines to find meaning, especially where Shrek is being more vulnerable later in the scene. The "I want a home, and someone to share with" line is moving because it feels personal. He and the writers knew how to incorporate that to make this character feel real. This would have been a game changing performance for his career, had it been able to manifest.
Chris Farley also did a great job voicing Shrek. I wouldn't say his voice is "weird". Its just Shrek sounds much different when he's voiced by Chris and not by Michael Myers.
I agree it's hard to imagine Shrek character without Mike Myers because Myers voice and attitude developed the character differently he made "Shrek" as we know him if Farley had of voiced Shrek he'd be a completely different character and the movies would have been different he would have made Shrek into a different character .
I feel like the “I know” at the end of the scene tells you everything you need to know about Farley’s version. The same line is in the original, but it has a completely different tone. It’s more of a “yeah, you’re cool” vibe. Farley, meanwhile, says it so softly and gratefully, almost like it’s everything he’s ever hoped for to have a friend.
His Shrek sounds like an entirely different character. In this it seems clear that he wants to have his own place away from his PARENTS and have a family, but the one we got seemed to be a decent bit older, definitely having been alone for a long time.

Not as emotional as when Chris Farley passed away
Farley sounded pretty good as Shrek, but it sounds so weird hearing a Shrek without the accent.
GurahkWeavile Just imagine is Farley did'nt die. The memes would probably be diffrent.
GurahkWeavile Actually, when Mike Myers took over as Shrek's voice actor, he initially performed Shrek's voice without the accent. He had permission to re-record his voice with an accent, which he based off one of his Saturday Night Live characters.

The Scottish soccer hooligan, probably
That actually costed the studio a lot of money too because they had to edit shrek's mouth movements
When europeans think Americans, they picture John biloushi and chris farley
Poor dude was probably already suffering from soon-to-be-fatal serious drug abuse while recording these lines...this just makes Farley's version of Shrek sound somewhat heartbreaking.
Roger Ebert eat your heart out
Perhaps so, but did Farley write the script?
@Sapphire stone Yeah, you already said that lol.
@@1HRBNGR1 i think both would be amazing in different ways.
I think the worse thing about Chris Farley's death is that we never got to see him in a dramatic role; it's nice that we get to hear a sliver of what it might've been like.
OfficialEVANLUTION his dramatic parts in Tommy Boy really showcased the range he had.
The best comedians can also be the best dramatic actors.

This is so comforting. It’s nice to hear Chris Farley’s voice. As a 90’s kid I feel good listening to this.
RIP Chris Farley, we miss you.
yoshimnm His death is the saddest of any celebrity imo because he had so much more to give.
yoshimnm i thought he died during the making of almost heroes. With mathew perry
yoshimnm he was going to play a more dramatic role as Fatty Arbuckle.

Sounds like the Farley Shrek was more of a young adult. I imagine they wrote Shrek differently after Farley passed.

Rip Chris Farley

Ramen...
Big T. Larrity ...what?
From what I acquired just based off of the scene, the movie would have a completely different tone if it was with Chris Farley
The Chris Farley version would have likely been a less emotionally frustrated, more emotionally driven type of Shrek.
The quest for Fiona would serve a different emotional purpose as the Chris Farley Shrek would use it to essentially prove himself, possibly coming off as more friendly to Fiona but conflicted against his self doubts of his worth
In which the scene where he overhears donkey talking to Fiona with her saying "a horribly ugly beast" in reference to herself but mistakes it for against himself.
He had no emotional goal to get with anyone
In which this Shrek after overhearing donkey and Fiona, only re-establishes the pointless effort it is to live with society, using more as an excuse to accept his fate.
Love this comment. So thorough and observant. I agree with you 100% honestly.
This comment is criminally underrated, but I guess most people don't care for deeper analyses. I have to say I'm not at all a fan of Chris Farley's voice for Shrek and don't usually care for essay comments, but this was a great read and gave me an appreciation for Chris Farley's Shrek.

it's really interesting to see Shrek and Donkey to be drawn in classic, Disney-esque 2D. Wish movie was made that way. Voice actors did an outstanding job, by the way.
MakaWakaPon I miss when Disney movies were still 2D
I think this is one of the few movies that I would prefer in 3D, much like toy story I think the realism helped the movie with its overall aesthetic and appeal, which I don't think so much can be said for other 3D movies such as frozen and other later disney products
I am aware, disney movies are good examples of movies that don't need to be in 3D.
Most dreamworks movies are bettered in 3D.
Dumb fuck
The movie was made to be a parody of Disney movies, they would never have made it in the same animation style
the disney way of doing things is lost, when you look at films like snow white and sleeping beauty every single still is a work of art, animation these days is lazy in comparison
This just makes me want to watch an alternate universe version of the Shrek film if it were to be finished this way.
I dont know why but seeing nicolas cage declyning was because he didnt wanna be an ogre is just hilarios to me 😂
Fact
Funny that people keep thinking that David Spade should have been the voice of Donkey in this version, since Peter Segal on the Tommy Boy commentary said that Shrek's writers based Shrek and Donkey's relationship after Farley and Spade in Tommy Boy.
unclesporkums i was for sure thinking that disney was going to give chris farley the role of pacha from emperor's new groove since him & david spade have a legendary dynamic working with eachother.
unclesporkums smelly lama face!!
That WOULD have made sense.
I think David Spade is too calm. Maybe if the roles were reversed though
Your picture scares me.
Graphomite is
the guy shhhh
Mr. Baileys Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life.
I agree. I'm glad they ditched that party of the story line too. Still, I would have loved to have seen the Chris Farley Shrek. He would have knocked it out of the park and made the character a lot funnier. I would love to visit the parallel reality where Chris Farley didn't die and bring back those movies.
When Farley passed away, and Myers was confirmed as his replacement, they rewrote the movie with Myers'
version of the character in mind. The movie that we got was written specifically with Myers in mind. So it's very difficult to say if the version we got was better or worse than what we'd have gotten, if Farley hadn't died before recording was finished.
Rest in peace Chris Farley. Heh it would've certainly been interesting to hear him voice the entire film.
Honestly, I’m glad that people are starting to recognize more about Chris Farley’s lost Shrek media so they don’t forget
Chris Farley sounds like jack black when he is using his calm voice and when he shouts he sounds like John DiMaggio
when Mike Myers uses his regular voice for Shrek he sounds like Ray Liotta
I really with they could have finished this. Chris did a really good job.
***** I thought of an idea where they animate what he had done, and have his brother finish the lines.
Kevin Arco no its because he died before he was done.
Zachary Erickson no.it really is because he died.
maudina palmer Chris Farley and Eddie Murphy would have been a perfect comic duo in a comedy film before Farleys death.
Chris Farley. The one actor that looked like he had fun acting no matter what. God rest his soul
This is me looking up to Chris as a kid. I looked at him as someone who just wanted to make me smile, make friends and try to make the best of any situation. I wish he knew how much he was loved. He was ahead of his time. I'll never forget you
Ironic how in the published movie, Shrek wants to be left alone, but in this one he wants people to live with him.
Another change in this version was that Princess Fiona was voiced by Janeane Garofalo instead of Cameron Diaz, and she had more of Janeane's deadpan personality.
+unclesporkums I believe she was suppose to be more sarcastic and abrasive when Garofaio was cast as her.
MrDrawingboard1 That's right. It was to contrast with Farley's version of Shrek.
unclesporkums who was the original choice for Lord Farquad?
It was still Lithgow. You can see that in vintage newspapers
unclesporkums his name is Dick Solomon. Jon Lithgow is his stage name
It's crazy to think Shrek was originally going to have parents of his own; they never touch on that in any of the three sequels. Even thought they focus a lot on Fiona's parents
He did say his dad covered him in barbecue sauce and tried to eat him once lol
His parents feature in the musical though! We see him as a child, getting sent out into the world with a pretty touching song sang by his parents.
Hopefully in the new sequel, currently in development, Shrek's parents will make an appearance.
@@StakeJade it’s a reboot, not a sequel
The musical has them in the first scene.
Wow, I'm torn between Mike and Chris here. Both are/were great SNL veterans and comedy geniuses. May Chris rest in peace.
The Scottish accent really did put everything together
Mike Myers' dad is Scottish. He puts on the exact same accent extensively in "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "The Spy who Shagged Me" and uses it briefly in several other films as well.
@@baumhauser My dad was scottish. And my family watched "So I Married an Axe Murderer". More on this later.
Exactly what I thought
I think Farley's version is really good in a different way
Man, Shrek would have been a completely different movie, but actually I would have like to see this.
This film was meant for Chris Farely to do as he was pretty much finish with the audio before he passed..they need to release it complete some day with 2D animation like the way it was meant to be.
Even if they just released it like this with the story boards itd be worth a watch
I didn't realize farley did voice work for this, so he did the whole film before he died ?
it was mean for Farley but Mike Myers IS Shrek
20 years ago today. We miss you so much Chris... ❤❤
I kind of wish they had kept his backstory with the parents. This whole scene, really.
in the third movie they do say something about his relationship with his dead but I can't remember right because the third is the worst one
Shriek supposed to be lonely. Thus shriek just has issues being independent like some 21 year old.
In another universe I believe an entire generation grew up watching Farley's Shrek.
It would had just been like today.
I really feel like if Chris Farley voiced Shrek, Shrek wouldn't have become this massive internet joke like it is with Mike Meyers. Farley just sounds so suited for this role.
Magicman205 eh idk, not really
Uh, yeah really. Myers stupid overacted "Scottish" accent sucks. This role was made for Farley. He sounds much better for it now that I hear it with the art.
Lon Tanner Yes, I fully agree with you. Thank you. I can't believe people are on here saying otherwise. Maybe just too young to remember how lovable Farley was.
I'm glad Myers did Shrek, Farley just sounds like...Farley.. Not much personality. Same gimmicky tone.
What lmao?
It really would be a fitting tribute if they could put this to actual animation, I grew up laughing to Chris great humor, and I know I would've loved this as much as I ended up loving Myers in Shrek. They both really cared about the roles, and that really shines through this and the actual movie.
Hopefully one day this will get that treatment.
The way Mike Myers delivers the "big stupid ugly ogre" part has so much emotion to it like it's something that hurts to think about. Chris Farley just sounds like he's making fun of someone. I think Chris was a great actor but I prefer Mike Myers by a large margin
I can’t imagine this version of Shrek cursing 😂
"LEAVE MY PARENTS THE F@#% OUT OF THIS B#@$%"
“KISS MY FAT GREEN BUTTOCKS!” - Chris Farley Shrek, most likely
fact: Mike Myers regular voice Shrek before Scottish accent sounded like if Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti from grand Theft Auto) was cast as shrek
@@abstraction6212 I believe it
Meanwhile in an alternate universe.
This is so weird. I can't imagine a potential universe where Mike Myers does not voice Shrek.
@@Raima_Is_Lovely He should have gotten the part to play Shrek, he made him had a normal accent
@@ansumanahargett6227 But the studios might wanted sequels
I got Rick and Morty vibes when you said that
I feel like the “I know” at the end of the scene tells you everything you need to know about Farley’s version. The same line is in the original, but it has a completely different tone. It’s more of a “yeah, you’re cool” vibe. Farley, meanwhile, says it so softly and gratefully, almost like it’s everything he’s ever hoped for to have a friend.
