There's actually a prequel to this game on the PSP called Driver 76, where you play as Ray. Maybe you could make a follow-up to this video if you could find some way to get it running.
that was funny actually when I first played the game. Mine was when you face Bishop and he says "Like my new toy? lets end this" and if you're lucky enough after that he will say "Why did you have to fuck with my shit man" easily my two favorite lines in the whole game no pun intended.
My fondest memory of this game is being a thick skulled child, starting the game just picking up a gun, starting shooting everywhere. Up to this day I don't know what the game is about, what the character's name, I know nothing except that of you pick up enough revolvers, you get infinite ammunition.
Honestly, pre-rendered cutscenes in video games looked stellar in the PS2 era. The games themselves didn’t always look the best (DEVIL MAY CRY) but they hold up gameplay wise.
I loved how in Driver 1 you could give your vehicle infinite mass and ram into everybody without slowing down. I loved sending cars flying into space because I was a sadistic child.
I remember playing driv3r on my brothers ps2 when I was a kid still and I absolutely loved it back then. The atmosphere. Just driving around, exploring. Good times
i don't understand english very well when i was kid, so when i tested to be a driver in the first game, i learn the words and do it like a dozens times till i pass, that's the best achievement for me as a kid
Brings back nightmares from when I tried to get custom music into the game for the 2006 portion. Lots of weird Brazilian and Russian sites in broken English allowed me to do it
I'm from Brazil. The community for this game was amazing back then around here in a social media called Orkut. This game was one of my favorites on PS2.
loved this game so much as a kid, played it like crazy in 2009-10. one of my neighbours at the time printed out all the cheat codes and the map with location of the stars on it. need to play it again for sure
Great to see a RUclipsr playing this, it doesn't get the attention it deserves. After the failure that was Driv3r, Parallel Lines kind of flew under the radar, I even know of Driver fans like an old friend of mine who didn't know it existed. But this right here is one of my favourite games of all time, I love the setting, story, characters. Seriously underrated, not only the most underrated Driver game, but one of the most underrated PS2-era games.
This is such a underrated gem mainly back then and is a huge shame because this game gave me best times on PS2 it was my first PS2 game in 2006 before that I wasn't that interest into gaming and this game took me into that hard and I love to came back even these days and thanks new modding possibilite is more fun to play
You unlocked a memory I didn’t even know I had. I played the original driver as a small kid on the PS1 and it was so much fun! We actually had the steering wheel/brake controller for it and everything - my family was really into it!
In my country there was a comedyTV show called "Hermes & Renato", where they spoofed 70's movies, series and general aesthetics. I used to call this game "Hermes & Renato's game" because one of the characters from the show, Hermes, is an exact copy of this game's main protagonist.
What I like about Driv3r is the atmosphere when playing in Miami. It also has this system where if you hit another car at high enough speed, you'd kill the driver.
I really wish GTA six will be like driver parallel lines mostly because of the story!!! Driver parallel line takes place in the late 1970s and 2006!!! GTA six is going to take place in a modern boring vice city!!! I really wish it could take place in the late 1980’s and the current year where we are right now!!!
Used to love this game as a kid - I remember being fascinated by the car handling in general, and more specifically the fact that you could just restart from checkpoints - a big deal to those used to GTA's frustrating mission design. The map was kinda meh though. It was too empty and cardboardy, even for the time. I mean, every place felt just... flat, apart from the alleyways, which gave a little bit of depth I guess.
I remember when my neighbour took me and her son to the video store and let us each rent a game. He chose Destroy All Humans, and I chose Driver: Parallel Lines. Of course I lied to my neighbour and told her I was totally allowed to play 18 rated games. I played this for the next week nonstop before returning it, and then because I was a kid I couldn't remember the name of the game, nor could I ever find it again on future trips to the video store. I found and bought Driv3r in the bargain bin, but it just didn't scratch the itch like this game did. It wasn't until about 8 years later I found the game and emulated it on PC, before realising it was on Steam and buying it outright. I still replay this once a year when I need a sweet hit of nostalgia.
There was another movie that predates Stephen King's Christine that was also about a car that chased people. It was literally called 'The Car'. It came out in the late 70s. I remember watching it with my mother (she was a horror fan).
Still remind how hooked I was the first time I played it. When The Kid goes to jail and everything around changes after his release, the new cars, new guns... that was something new to me, only recovered in Mafia II when Vito gets out of jail.
I played this game quite a lot on my OG Xbox. I was a little bebe and was really blown away with the whole time jump thing, I also really liked the racing. I really don't think that many people played this game, at least in my general vicinity
haha I've been playing this game since it came out and still playing from time to time. It's a simple game but lot of fun, the city is big, streets are wide and cars are fun to drive.
I bought this on Steam a couple weeks ago for $3... I have had Driver: SF since release one way or another and feel exclusive to be able to play it on Steam 🤣 Glad to finally be playing this clone with decent graphics and frame rate! Controller support actually works with some tweaks. Edit: this game and Mafia 2 did time jumps in the world the best imo. Well executed.

Last Driver game I played and first game I bought (along with Getting Up:Contents Under Pressure) for ps2 with my own money from my first job. Move to PA in 06 and played these two games nonstop. Dope soundtrack. The era change cutscene with Sealings by Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing got me into the band. Wonderfully edited and directed scene. Love the cutscenes in the game.
This was my favorite "Driver" game. "T.K." took us in a wheelman journey. From doing car recovery for "The Mexican", to Breaking "Candy" out of Ryker's Island prison. To being betrayed by his crew. To working along with the daughter of a Cartel Boss to help me take down "Corrigan". The 2008 time period in the game was like my favorite watching how the city done changed, seeing how old the crew age during the 2008 in game time period. "Driver Parrell Lines" was a sequel to PSP's "Driver 76". Atari needs to remaster this game for sure . 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Speaking of sound cards, I feel like I remember there being some game that is near unplayable (but, of course, still offered on digital stores) where you need a bunch of community made patches to get it to run, because the game crashes when it looks for the specific details of your sound card and (for obvious reasons) cannot find one on modern systems.
This was by far my favorite game in the driver series and in my personal ps2 collection as well I remember getting it brand new that year with the map and dvd and soundtrack and I was blown away by the storyline alone but also as a New Yorker I found it interesting putting a time jump from the 70s to the early 2000s and seeing there rendition of nyc in the 70s as a 90s kid I thought that was pretty cool but the soundtrack from the first half of the game definitely was my favorite but overall the nostalgia of the whole game is worth replaying and enjoying all over again and again
