Boy was I wrong. When I started rescuing cats in 1981 my veterinarian said give the Felv and 3 in 1 vaccine in the back of the neck where the spine is. And to mix the two vaccines together before you give them in one shot. I'm glad I've got this video because I have 40 cats to vaccinate.

Best to try to do it in the tail, especially the rabies and leukemia if they are not the Purevax brand (which are non-adjuvanted).

What if you are giving vaccinations at home and have the four-in-one combo that includes the felv? Where should that be injected?

A lot of people are now doing the tail injections… For me it’s a very tough skin and sometimes the cats are uncomfortable

@@drlindsaybutzer I watched the video “Vet to Vet: Tail Vaccination in Cats - conference recording”, from 8:15. They say it’s not that difficult. It’s certainly more comfortable for the cat than an amputation. Also, some people report their cat limping for days after receiving a vaccine in the leg.
When I went to the vet they said they try to do it in the tail if there is enough loose skin, I don’t think that’s possible, especially on a kitten.

Hey. How long is the fvcrp vaccine effective after being drawn. My cat was running around so it took about 10-15 mins to vaccinate him. The vet held the injection in his hand for 10-15 mins befor administering it. Will it be effective in room temp for that long?

Can the rabies vaccine be given at any age of the cat ? Or even after it is already infected with rabies ? How many doses of rabies vaccine at what intervals should be given ?

    • @earlcielkittenhive

I think the first vaccine is given at four months but it may be 6 months and then it should be an annual vaccine. It cannot be given after exposure, it is prevention not post care.
